Gaming headset recommendations

These ones are only $150. I also still game on the PS4, PS3, and 360, so I'd like something that works on all 4 consoles. My understanding is that the surround sound is fine on the One with these headsets.
Ok but the xbox one stereo headset is awesome and it's cheap.

Having gone through the pain/joy of trying to find a decent gaming headset for the X1 - short answer is the current line of Trittons aren't compatible.

They've recently announced a new series of headsets targeting the X1:

http://phx.corporate-ir.net/phoenix.zhtml?c=69024&p=irol-newsArticle&ID=1938185&highlight=

That being said - it depends on what you want ...

You can go the route of a wireless gaming headset (the one I came close to getting was the SteelSeries H):

http://steelseries.com/products/audio/steelseries-h-wireless

This would hook up directly to your X1.

Or you could go the other route which is to purchase the X1 Wireless adapter, and hook up *any* of your favorite headsets to the adapter.

You'll notice a lot of the recent gaming headsets have been "updated" with new versions - honestly - these are all the same headsets as last year but with a pack-in wireless adapter ...

Once I finally realized that the wireless adapter was stereo surround sound no matter what headset you used ... then -

This is the route I finally chose. I started with a few gaming headsets, but eventually just bought a pair of Sony Noise cancelling headphones as they're fairly close to Bose QC15s - have active and passive noise cancelling, and I can also use them for other purposes than just gaming. I also travel a bit - and these are much nicer and less "geeky" looking than your average gaming headset.

Really short answer - do your homework before you buy a headset for the X1 - you really only have 2 options - and if you go the non wireless adapter route - there's a lot of headsets out there with known incompatibilities....

Good luck!

Why are the current Tritton headsets not compatible ?

@jsgiv

Are you sure the Trittons don't work, specifically that model? I've heard about some voice chat issues that people had on the One that requires some tweaking of the settings, but no issue with the actual game sound.

Also, does voice chat work with the Bose headsets?

Pretty sure its that model... if you visit the main site you'll note that it says its compatible with PS4 but not with X1....

That being sad I've seen forum posts that people have gotten them to work... but not without modification to the headsets.

Voice chat works great with my Sony headset:

http://store.sony.com/premium-noise...SbI29KDh4aEYoaqSWqRcZ7VoqeoNj?_t=pfm=category

I've seen similar reports with Bose headsets working great as well...

Came close to getting Bose... but these were on sale for $150... and are almost as comparable to the Bose QCs at double the price.... and these are both active and passive headphones... Bose were active only...

Nice to see Tritton stepping into the Xbox One arena now. I'm still looking for a headset, I refuse to buy these first ones that don't have TalkBack in any of them. Some of my friends have the Stereo Chat Adaptor, but they all say the same thing...it's hard to balance game & chat volume now. The buttons are all confusing & you can never get it "just right." Instead of separate controls, it's like when it raises voice, it lowers game or the like.

I take it all doom and gloom for Trittons is about voice chat, right ? not about actual game sound, which is digital, from the optical out of the console.

I also assume the chat issues are because of the jack standard Mad Catz use ? So the jack is OMTP and not CIMA like the Xbox one supports. Have any of these people tried buying a converter/adapter ?

@jsgiv
Do those headsets sound as good for gaming as the dedicated gaming headsets do?

After reading reviews for a couple hours last night I went ahead and purchased the Trittons that I had linked to in my original post. Most PS4 and One reviewers did have some problems with the chat volume/clarity, but it seems there are several work arounds for each console have been confirmed to work.

I maybe only chat with people about 10% of the time while playing games anyways, but Mad Catz return/warranty policy is pretty good, so I figure I'll return it if I run into any problems I can't resolve.

Basically - if you have the x1 wireless headset adapter and want to use it with any headset... in general terms - the surround sound effect will be very similar no matter what headset you use as the surround sound processing is being sent to you via the controller/adapter from the console....

Most of these gaming headsets have their own sound processing adapters to provide their own unique surround sound effect. I believe the trittons are the same iirc.

In those cases - you also have to have wires across your room depending on the setup of the SPU. Newer ones are wireless but they have their own wireless connectivity....

The wireless headset adapter is nice in that you only have one wire attached to your controller and you can move about easily... which I find pretty nice ...

All said - the trittons may work without issue.. I'm very interested in your results once you get them and I'm sure others here will be as well...

Do those headsets sound as good for gaming as the dedicated gaming headsets?

Forgot to answer this... ;)

Short answer.. there are slight but discernible differences based on which headset you use....

I tried several of the "compatible" versions before realizing the sound difference lies in the quality of the headphones versus the SPUs offered with pervious versions of headsets tailored for consoles and PCs in general..

To give you an idea - I tried the XO7s, Polk Audio 4 shot, and another released "gaming" headset before switching to targeting more mainstream headsets with true active noise canceling capabilities...

Why? in general - the headsets all presented very similar surround sound effects due to them all using the same SPU (X1 via wireless header adapter). Between them all - the Polk Audio headsets actually had the better overall sound and better stage presence. The remaining gaming headsets were fine but typically overcompensated with heavy bass, etc.

The primary reason I returned the 4 shots were due to the integrated mic issues (which I think still are unresolved and they sent out a boom mic to users instead)... and they were a little heavy for my taste.

At that point I realized that since the headsets all presented with a similar sound experiences, it became more important for me to choose the headset I wanted for other reasons outside of just gaming - i.e. weight, noise canceling capabilities, sound (music listening, etc.), portability, comfort, looks, ........

Hope this helps or answers your question...

It is the same price at BB

This comes with the stereo headset adapter that is $25 on its own, great deal

Anyone try the newer Tritton Kama Stereo Headset for XB1? I have TBx12's on my 360 and don't want to swap out connectors so I was looking at these Tritton Kama XB1 headsets. 54.99 at gamestop.

By the way, whats the issue with X1 & headsets? Alot of haedset I checked are compatiable for PS4, and last gen consoles, but not X1.

Well, you may be correct about the current new versions but using last gen versions you should be getting the full boat. With 3rd party "Surround Sound" headsets, the only thing the adapter is used for is chat. My Turtle Beach PX5's work the same on the X1 as they do on the 360. Game sound is transmitted wirelessly from a base station that is taking in 5.1 sound via optical cable from X1. I can get game audio just fine without ever plugging into the adapter. The only time I plug in is to do chat when playing online. There may be some headsets that don't work properly for chat over the adapter but the PX5s do in my experience.

6 months of use

edit: this loosened the ear cup so it didn't sit right against my ear and caused pain, so it's not just an aesthetic problem. stay clear

the frabric-y material on tb's made my ears itch. sony headsets have a nice smooth leather

I got the gold headset for PS4 and PS3. It was 60 on sale so I paid for the BB two year coverage for 15 bucks. I made sure to ask does it cover creaks and if the part that sets on your head just breaking in half. she said yeah but mind you would not shock me if she is full of s***.

I got a big f***ing head.

the cracking on the elites is a common, widespread problem, which isn't the case with the golds. i fricking hope not anyway because i've bought a pair myself!

I have them also and they did the same thing after about 9 months.:ypissed:

I have had my pulse elites and they have done the same thing as well (big ass head and a fro tucked under it). I just applied some wiring to the affected side to keep the ear cup tight and it has continued working with no issues. Did you dump your Pulse Elites Joon when you jumped to the Golds?

Currently the cracking is purely an aesthetic thing. When the cracking begins to affect the functionality of the headset, I will jump on the steam train right with you.

Anyone else use Gaming Headsets?
When I was an active PC gamer I only played with a headset. When I went to Xbox and it had 5.1 I used it with my AVR and that continued with the 360 and now XB1

I only started using them again when I had the kids. Pre-Kids I would blast my 5.1 Surround system much to the wife's dismay.

I got a Turtle Beach X12 for my 360 a few years ago to game quieter and that is what I am still using. Today I am adding a DSS2 Surround processor to it for Virtual Dolby Surround. Now to run this to both the 360/XB1 and my Yamaha Lossless 5.1 was a puzzle. I picked up a box that does 4x2 Toslink splitting. Meaning I can have 4 sources(360/xb1/BluRay/ETC) come in and then 2 outputs (TB-DSS2 processor/Yamaha v377 amp).

Now in the future I may go with a wireless surround set like x42/xp400 but right now I have no issues with the wires as I keep em pretty tidy and no one goes in my man cave.

I do like it because now I can hear everything and not disturb anyone in the house.
Anyone else use headsets for gaming/movies?

I have had several Gaming head sets over the years, ranging from cheap like Turtle Beach X1's ( exceptional value for money) to more pricey products like the Tritton Pro 5.1 head set, which for the money was a little disappointing sound quality wise( was a little tinny sometimes). I also have a pair of SoundBlaster Rage Tactic 3D for PC and use them for gaming, music, TV shows, and movies and they are prety nice for the mid range price I paid for them.

I used to be like though, MilkmanX. I used to just cranck up that 5.1 HT set up, but then my gaming habbits switched from day/evening time to night time( 10pm on wards) and thus the need for alternative devices arose. To be honest though I am have been very impressed with the sound quality of gaming headsets. While they do not eally compete with a proper 5.1 HT set up, they are still a great compromise and can offer really nice sound quality.

i sold mine on ebay and the proceeds covered half the cost of a new pair of golds; that pricing was too good to pass up, otherwise i may have kept them myself. i also prefer the golds because the handband has a lot more cushion that the elites

Yeah they are not too bad. Not nearly as accurate as my HT but nice. The DSS2 is actually really nice. Huge improvement in sound on Titanfall. I could more clearly hear direction of gunfire and enemy movement. Worth the price I got it for. I had a Triton 5.1 Headset and it was very tinny. Much prefer the TB sound.

I've used a pair of Sennheiser PC360's combined with one of the earlier Astro MixAmp's for a few years now. I use them for my PC and PS4, and 360 when I used it. You could probably do better than the Astro MixAmp these days but it was one of the only good options I had at the time, but it's held up well. As for the Sennheisers, they've been pretty much flawless, no complaints at all.

I'm not too keen on Turtle Beach headsets, I had a pair of them before I bought my current setup but I found the build quality to be ugh. Breakable and felt flimsy, but they were one of the cheaper models.

when I plug in either A: the mono one that came with the PS4 or a Turtle Beach wired one into the 1/8" jack the pop up says it is connected. but i never hear anything and nobody can hear me. I go into the settings for devises and all the settings for audio are gray out (the volume and light settings are visible). I have 2 DS4 controllers and the same issue happens on both.

Also I tried plugging in my stereo ear buds for my Vita and get no sound out of em either

Can you give more specifics? Are you connecting headsets straight into the PS4 or the DS4?
