Gaming headset recommendations

yeah but it got the pop up saying the system recognized it and i hardly ever use the mic maybe 3 times since sept. so that was what was bugging me but when I realized that it was not plugged all the way in I was like WTF LOL.

Yeah they are not too bad. Not nearly as accurate as my HT but nice. The DSS2 is actually really nice. Huge improvement in sound on Titanfall. I could more clearly hear direction of gunfire and enemy movement. Worth the price I got it for. I had a Triton 5.1 Headset and it was very tinny. Much prefer the TB sound.
Sorry for the newby question but you have a stereo headset with a mix amp that simulates surround? If so it makes sense for the better sound quality from 2 speakers with larger magnets for more low end I'm thinking?

Yes that is why I think the Triton True 5.1 Headset I had did not sound good. I have heard the new Astros sound really good and they should for $250 bones. My Setup is less than $60 if you get the refurb DX12. :)

What about earbuds? Anyone have/love a pair of earbuds cheap or not, with a mic?

Gaming headsets are trash. Your best bet is to get a good receiver and headphones and duct tape a mic onto them.

I spent almost $250 on a set of Astra A40s and they are decent at best. My $100 set of Astra Technica phones sound way better at half the price.

What is the best all round headset in the $100/$150 price range? I am a noob when it comes to gaming headsets. I wouldn't mind wireless if possible, though wired is fine too. Do the wired ones plug into the headset port on the XB1 controller?

All X1 headsets are "wireless" now. They just plug into the controller and get the audio wirelessly through that.

Turtle Beach is always the best bang for the buck under $100. You may be able to get a cheap 360 headset, you'll just need to get the X1 adapter.

Is the X1 adapter readily available?

Is 5.1 and above even supported on XB1 headsets?

Virtually yes but you will need an older 360 headset. That is why I use the Turtle Beach DX12. (its an X12 paired with the DSS2 surround processor). You can also get the 5.1 from the TB x42 or xp400 headsets. Refurbed on Amazon both are under $100. DX12 refurbs are now hard to find but they were under $60!

I might bite on the TB xp400'. They look pretty decent for about $100. Anybody have any experience with them?

I am happy to spend up to $200 on a decent pair but need them to be compatible with the PS4 and Xbox One. Can somebody recommend a pair please? IF price is above $200 please recommend also you never know I might bite.

Edit: I want to keep it as cheap as possible $200 is just a bench mark and I will only be using it for 6 months maximum also I don't require the headset for chat.

Edit 2: Im going to go pick up the X07 now from Target for $129 and see what it offers. I have 60 days to return it if I it doesn't live up to standard. The reviews look good, wired being the downside.

The X07 is brilliant for anyone wanting a headset and pretty inexpensive at $129. The only con I would say is it's wired but it works with both the PS4 and Xbox One so I can't complain.

I'm thinking of swapping the X07 with the Turtle Beach Stealth 500x it's only $60 more and comes Wireless with 7.1 surround sound. Just purely because it's $60 more and nothing to do with the quality of the X07 they are great.

I had the Xbox One Stereo headset but the earpiece broke. I was fine with the sound quality, I can get another as cheap as 30 and up on amazon. I saw there are Turtle Beach's for a similar price, I also still have my headset adapter from my last pair so I could maybe look at other options. I dont really want to spend more than 50-75. If I was to use a pair that wasnt made specifically for the One, what are the downsides?

I do not mind buying used

Anything Turtle Beach is good. Had a few of those for 360. Now I just have X1 Stereo one and I like it a lot.

I think the biggest downside to buying a headset not specifically designed for the X1 is you'll obviously need to buy the adapter and the headset is going to need to be powered from something other than the controller (either USB or rechargeable batteries). I guess the upside to that though is you'll be able to use the headset with any other console its compatible with. I know they're out of your price range, but I bought the Astro A40s ($199). I just got sick of the cheaper ones always breaking on me so I spent a little extra. They've held up pretty well and have some good sound quality.

I have the xb1 headset and also got a cheap pair of Sennheiser HD 407. I was blown away how much better sound come from the 407s but unfortunately they're only headphones not a headset so my entire post adds/helps nothing to the topic here.

edit... I guess you could get a cheap pair of earbuds with a mic for talk or use the Kinect mic. Pump the headphones through your receiver with chat through kinect. So options with only headphones exist to avoid expensive headsets if you'd prefer.
