Dragon Age: Inquisition - Nov. 18

How anybody could think this looks bad is just beyond me. Maybe it's 360/PS3 version.

I don't know if there was a day one patch, but with almost everything set to Ultra, yesterday the game maintains tasty 60fps. That was good.

Have I said the game is big? Well again it's big. As I play through, it reminds me a lot of Oblivion. Not just its sheer size, but small things like closing the dimension door, exploring dungeon with similar color scheme, etc. reminds me of that game a lot.

Difference here is that nothing really feels like a placeholder or lazy filler. The game is really consistent. You just keep encountering new events, new lore, new characters. Even when you simply forget the main storyline and explore further and further, there are always more to see, and the game does not lose steam while doing it.

For this very reason the final verdict will have to come when I finish the game completely. The consistency is key here. If the game goes on like this until th end, this might be the best RPG ever made.

Finally got through the tutorial and the game has finally opened up. This game is amazing. I enjoy how there are enemies way above my level in early areas. Learned that the hard way. I started blindly running around the Hinterlands and ran into enemies four levels above me. They beat my ass.

However, I have to agree the game isn't technically flawless. I did hit an ugly bug at the war table. I entered conversation but my health bar and map didn't go away. So non convo UI overlapped the convo UI, dialogue sound went out, i had to hit X to move to the next line of dialogue, and characters lips didn't move when they spoke. It was bad. But other than that awkwardness, it's been good.

I'm glad there's no sluggishness in movement, navigating menus, etc., given how massive the game is.

Been playing nonstop since I got it ($39 on Origin ftw!). Actually was late turning in some work for a client. lol

Character customizations are nice, needs more hair styles though, good god are some of them bad.
I am completely indifferent to the combat system. It's not amazing or even good in any sense of the word, but it's not necessarily bad either. It just...exists. It's serviceable and that is all.

Gotta love how the cutscene hitching happens in the exact same spot on all 3 platforms. For the last day I've been tweaking s*** wondering why when the rest of the game runs at 60fps for me. Come to find it Bioware just sucks lol.

lol. Can we get one now where PC settings are maxed out ?

PS4 and Xbone looks pretty much identical.

Well the video says the PC version is running everything on ultra. :3

Nope. You can respec later, but you can't change your appearance.

Oh thank god. When does the respec option appear?

You buy a respec item just outside the keep where the blacksmith is.

I like the combat system. I understand it now after putting some time into it and I can see how useful it is. When done right, it can get you out of tight spots where you think you won't make it. Having certain characters do certain tasks is critical, and I can tell that'll be a big part in the game later on.

Some more thoughts after a few hours of play.

Still getting a few crashes here and there. Most are not that obtrusive, but one did make me do a rift followed by a cinematic scene/dialog over. Hopefully, there will be some patches soon.

I'm not sure if I like weapons and armor being level restricted. On one hand, it gives me something to look forward to. On the other hand, I keep finding stuff I can't use and cluttering up my inventory. Plus, it kinda takes the fun out of finding new stuff when I can't use it for several more levels.

Is there a way to disengage from combat? Sometimes I just want to lower my weapons and either retreat or bypass a combat zone. Movement speed is slow in combat.

I'm still playing as my archer. It's been fun so far. I like that I can treat it like a sniper. Climb up on a hill or some rocks, aim at an unaware enemy, use the full draw perk. It nearly kills most people (with the right conditions of course).

I'm level 8 or 9. Finished most of the Hinterlands. I closed those pesky rift gates after i got another warrior in my party.

I haven't ventured out of Hinterlands much. I briefly visited some nighttime water area. I'll probably be exploring more soon.

Sometimes I wish it wasn't so picky about where I can save. I try to save after combat in case of a crash, but I have to wait a few seconds usually.

Having a bow does make it easier to hunt animals. It also gives me a jump start in combat on unaware enemies.

I'm still not sure what to think about the tactical camera. It's nice being able to give orders, but it doesn't combine very well with real time mode. I also could not win the fights I was having trouble with. It took me getting better gear and a new party member before I beat the troublesome rift gates. Enemies were just wiping us out too fast, and they would gang up on my lone warrior too fast. Maybe the tactical camera is more useful in hard mode, or maybe I need to get better with it.

The areas are definitely pretty big. I am always exploring and finding new stuff. I haven't found many caves though, and most of them are pretty small.

Well, anyway, I'm getting tired. I'm probably forgetting something. I'll mentioned it later if I think of anything.

Overall, very addicting game. I haven't been able to put it down. It's not perfect, but it's definitely very fun.

I actually like equipments that are higher level than you. So there is something to look forward to when you level up.

Yes, from the Blacksmith in Haven.

Note that you can't change classes, only respec within your class.

Yeah that's fine. I'm happy with the mage class. So can you respec the companions as well?

I'm playing the X1 version and think it looks great. I haven't had any frame rate issues at all. Have had some sound issues when in a battle going in and out of the menu wheel where some of the sound fades until I go back into the menu.

I've done most of the Hinterlands are and I did a swampy area where I met another companion that I invited to join us and he said yes but I haven't had the option to use him when I can choose my party. Did I miss something?

Anyway, absolutely loving the game and thinking this might be my game of the year.

I haven't done much of the swampy area yet, so I don't know who you are talking about, but are you sure he said he'd join as a party member and not just an agent? I've signed up at least 3 agents (for the war table room) in Hinterlands, but I've only found 1 who could join the actual party.

Maybe that's what happened, could have sworn he said join the party but maybe I'm mistaken (was about 2 am and I should have been sleeping)!!

Do I need to have played the previous DA games to get into this?
I will say this I LOVE Bioware games.
ME/KOTOR 1&2.

Someone told me it is pretty much like a medieval Mass Effect.
Is this true?

Also stuck this thread for the time being.

No, you don't need to play the previous games. The dragon age keep app will give you a nice summary of everything that came before.
As for it being a medieval mass effect, I think that's a little unfair to both mass effect and dragon age. Dragon age is very much it's own game. It has the bioware touch alright, but having the mark of its creator is pretty much the only similarity in my opinion.

I got the game but haven´t had time to play it. I'm going go as a bitter as all Hell knight like Ser Alliser Thorme. or an all out of f*cks mage like Raistlin Majere. Usually I play the "Jesus figure" good character first in an RPG but not this time. And if any of the party doesn't like it,they can go f*** themselves and GTFO.

Wow. Raistlin Majere, now there is a name I have not heard in a long time. The hour glass constellation ! What a great bad guy he was.

Played about 7 + hours now , the scale of the world is amazing, have yet to get far in the main quest, too many side quests keeping me busy.

Agreed on the items. I pick up stuff I constantly can't use. It's kinda annoying.

You can disengage, on the Xbox it's the left bumper and then you can select the disengage option. It helps a lot because sometimes my AI characters will shoot at Rams and other wildlife and chase them down.

I see a striking resemblance to femshep.
Well played.

Haha. I have a thing for red heads. My standard has always been red hair, red eyes and fair skin. Not too pale, not too dark. That's my character Tera.

No, but I'd recommend you read at least one good synopsis, before diving in. Otherwise, I think you'll be pretty confused by the factions, titles, characters, regions, politics, etc. I've played both the DA games (only got 2/3 through DA2), and I still have trouble keeping it all straight.

You could try one of these:

In the sense that they're both party-based games with heavy emphasis on individual characters and their interaction, yes. You'll definitely recognize that you're playing a game by Bioware. Their style is very distinctive.

Otoh, like D-v-ant said, they are two very different games. To me, Mass Effect is more action-ey, more oriented to the pew-pew and big explosions, the dramatic set pieces, whereas Dragon Age is a quieter and more understated game, if that's the right way to say it -- more focused on the characters, dialog, the different countries and political alliances, and, especially in DA:I, the exploration of the world. That last bit is the most obvious difference between the two -- the game world in DA:I is much bigger and more open than Mass Effect.
