Dragon Age: Inquisition - Nov. 18

So I WAY off when tried it with my level 5 party. Hahaha. One to come back to so.

Yeah I tried early on as well. The big area fireball it throws killed my entire party in one shot. Watched another one kill a giant by its self in another area.

So, I am starting to get my ass whooped now and again by the rift bitches. Any tips on tactical combat ? cause my team mates alone seem pretty iffy. The warrior(Cassandra does fine) but the mage(Solas) seems iffy, and Varric pretty much worthless.

I use magic to stun the heavy hitters and sheild buffs on my party. I've managed to take down most of them so far but I have come across one set that I haven't been able for yet.

I made a chick in character creator and she looked hot. Once the game started rolling it revealed her ugly side, which apparently is every side .

I'm quite happy with the way Tera (my character) turned out. The trick is angles. From the front, things look fine, but from the side or other angles it reveals the bad side indeed haha.

My mage does not buff in battle. Oddly enough though it is first thing he does when I attack an animal

Are you fiddling with the tactics section, menace? That might help. You can set your mage so that buffs are "preferred" actions.

I've been hearing a fair number of complaints about the ranged classes' AI in this game. For instance, they seem to have a problem staying at range and instead tend to get up close, melee style, which of course results in an untimely death. I've seen that myself -- Solas running up and getting in an enemy's face, then getting stomped. I'm playing a mage myself, so I input all my mage commands manually, but I do need to keep a close eye on my other two ranged fighters (Solas and Varric), because they will often not be in the optimal position.

I enjoy using the tactical camera. I'm playing on Normal, so it's not really necessary, but I still like stopping the action and planning the next moves. It seems too chaotic otherwise.

My current party is 1 melee fighter and 3 ranged fighters. I'm looking forward to getting another melee fighter. Cassandra needs some help on the front lines.

Man, they need to fire the combat designer and blacklist him from the games industry. Nightmare difficulty bosses isn't even "fun" or "tactical" and more "run away from them until your teammates res them selves and spam disengage to help them dodge fireballs/aoes that do way too much damage".

Prolonged fights are a pain in the ass once you run out of pots. I mean seriously if you're give bosses abilities that can one shot your team of equal level then a healing class is a must. That's partially the point OF healing classes, the health pots are suppose to be used for the time the healer can't get to you. Ugh. Removing the healing class, but keeping the damage factor the same ruins any ebb and flow the combat is trying to convey.

No, Have not touched the tactics ( forgot all about it). Will have to have look next time I get on.

No need for 3 ranged in aprty IMO. I want rid of Varric. I want the Ironbull but think I am ways off that. Think the companion Blackwall is quickest to get, but that means doing story missions.

Yeah, I think having the right party setup is important. I was doing much better when I gave Cassandra another warrior to help tank with her. Otherwise, she was getting ganged up on and killed too fast.

That's why I put it back on normal. The fights that were too much for me were pretty much killing me instantly. For example, there was one rift that would spawn these tough creatures, and they killed us so fast it was silly. There's no point in using a tactical cam when no one can survive for more than a couple seconds anyway. And this was even on normal. I would hate to try these on harder difficulties.

I also do not like how you cannot move past a certain point in tactical view. I want to move people around the battlefield, but I can't move them past a certain range. It is sometimes way too restricting.

Blackwall is good. He helped give my party some much needed melee oomph. I gave him two-handed weapon skills since I already had Cassandra doing sword and shield style.

Blackwall's specialization tree makes him a much better tank than Cassandra. Her Templar tree makes her a better 2h warrior.

Lol, I've already dropped Blackwall for Iron Bull. I hope he enjoyed his 15 minutes of fame. And I also have 3 mages to choose from.

I wish I had gotten some of these closer to the beginning of the game. I might have gotten more use out of them. I don't know if it's because I was busy doing all the quests in Hinterlands I could find, when I should have done some story quests.

When along the main story route do you start getting the other companions (edit: never mind, I accessed two of the other characters by just progressing the main story a little).

Btw, a few pages back, someone asked how do you know what level the enemies are. They're listed when you hover over them in tactical cam view. Inside the little shield is a level number.

I'm finding the game fairly glitchy. I don't know if it's my PS4 or what, but just about every long session I have, I'll get some glitch. Sometimes it'll be an audio glitch, sometimes the game shuts down completely. The last time, about 10 minutes ago, my character got killed -- health down to zero, unable to perform any attacks -- but he remained standing, and I couldn't revive him with the other party members. Kind of weird. I'm pretty patient with glitches in big RPGs, so it's not a big deal so far. Still, there are more than I expected.

Please put your answer in spoiler tags, since other people might not want to know.

yea that was me, i just discovered the touch pad lol.

All these characters lol. I haven't gotten past the Hinterlands, then I stumbled across this article. I've been doing it wrong!

Heh, that article sums me up pretty well. I thought, oh I'll just complete this area before moving on. No wonder I wasn't getting many companions. Actually, I thought the other areas would be harder, so I figured I'd stay in the Hinterlands and beat the "easy" quests. Some of the Hinterland areas were harder than any area I've been to yet in the other zones.

And yeah, I found the druffalo...

Thanks for that, Dmega. Very helpful.

I'm one of the people he describes. I want to complete all the sidequests before moving on. So it's good to hear that the Hinterlands is really just a starting area, probably the dullest of the areas, and that the game is much better if you just spend an hour or two there, then open up more areas in the War Room and/or move on with the main questline.

No prob! I was kinda curious about extra characters and then I found out about that. It was like one of the first articles that came up.

no wonder why 'm 10 hrs in with no new characters and only level 8.......

Lol, I was going to try to hit that level before moving on myself.

Does anyone else think highlighted items can too hard to see when you click the left stick? I think a good idea would have been to show loot on your map when search pings them.

Why can I not apply skills ? I tried to get the strafing skill for my archer but it said I could not unlock it yet. I already unlocked a skill next to it :txbmad: I really need the skill cause my archer is so static when engaged in combat.

They need to hire someone that can do hair. The hair is just horrible even by last gen standard.

And then those were limited to just one or two characters. I do believe it needs to get better, but there will be limitations as to how much it would improve with a big game like this.

Yeah, I often hear a ping but can't locate the item, so I just move on.

Digital Foundry analysis. PS4 has the slight advantage with visuals; X1 maintains a more stable framerate.

"Verdict:

"The future of BioWare games is looking bright indeed. Dragon Age fans should be pleased by the combination of Inquisition's excellent visuals and stable performance, while its gameplay is receiving plenty of plaudits. From a technical perspective, even with the underwhelming cut-scene performance, Dragon Age: Inquisition is still the most optimised BioWare experience we've enjoyed on a console. Thankfully the firm has acknowledged these issues (which are mostly a concern for PC owners) and is apparently investigating solutions. Considering that much of the problem appears to be tied to animation rather than frame-rate, however, we're very curious to see what they come up with."

"In terms of final recommendations, it's clear that if you have the muscle, the PC version is going to provide the best experience - but the console versions are still very impressive. If you don't mind minor frame-rate dips and feel that image quality is most important, it's easy to recommend the PS4 version. However, those looking for the most stable experience should instead opt for the Xbox One version. It's clear that neither console version is quite perfect but the level of graphical accomplishment and performance are an enormous improvement over every other BioWare console title we've played."

Yeah, I often hear a ping but can't locate the item, so I just move on.

It's usually above or below you in some way. Also some things are actually invisible and only appear when you search right beside it.

So, I hate the archer class. Have switched up to dual daggers and enjoying it much more. Have also been doing much better in battle since the change.
Have found 3 new companions, Sera, Blackwall, and Vivienne. So my party now stands as Me(Rogue), Cassandra, Blackwall, and Vivienne. That Sera chick annoyed me too much with her nonsensical babble.
