The most entertaining NPD yet. For those of you who didn't keep up with the endless articles and posts on various sites, it goes like this:

- MS vaguely says they sold the most next gen consoles in November in the US and UK
- Everyone's favourite and most inaccurate anti-MS insider CBOAT says the diff in system sales was only a "7-10k diff"
- Internet forums go wild saying Sony won by withstanding MS's onslaught of aggressive promos (though always forgetting PS4 also had some bundles themselves)
- About 3 hours worth of posts go by, which equates to about 50 pages and 3,000 posts on the orange board
- Turns out CBOAT's info is bogus and the real data is X1 at 1.2 - 1.3M and PS4 at 800-900k. Roughly a 400k difference in favour of X1
- CBOAT gets banned (again)
- All the ruckus about MS failing disappears and posts going forward focus on software sales such as CoD, LBP 3, Halo MCC and Dragon Age selling lower than what people expected

They you have it. About 4 hours worth of hilarious posts on the internet condensed into 7 bullet points.

And all due to another inaccurate CBOAT post.

Except about Dragon Age, great game!

Yeah. I'm sure it didn't help that it launched the same day as GTA 5 and Far Cry 4, both of which were big sellers. Hopefully it'll make up ground over time, based on word of mouth and good press.

Only a 7-10k difference in sales. Kind of crazy it's that close. Xbox One had better deals and exclusives and couldn't even muster a 100k sales gap. I guess it really is a done deal. The PS4 will be the best selling console worldwide this gen. Xbox One will still be very strong in the US though. I think the important thing is both the X1 and PS4 sold over 1 million. As long as both do well, that's all you can ask for.

I said this would happen a year ago, six months ago, and last month.

MS is in a bind. It looks like a profitable second place is what they're destined for.

CBOAT and GAF did their magic again. They got the hits due to yet another bogus CBOAT claim.

Xbox One Sells 1.2 Million, PS4 800k~ During November 2014 in North America
It’s on fire!
December 11th, 2014 Jonathan Leack

Although CBOAT, one of several well-known leakers in the video game industry, shared that the difference in sales between the Xbox One and PS4 during November 2014 were minimal, it appears that they were anything but.

Several hours after Microsoft’s announcement that it had taken top spots in hardware and software for last month, a reputable NeoGAF user by the name CosmicQueso disputed CBOAT’s “7 – 10k difference” figure, stating:

I love cboat, but in this case he is not correct.

Shortly thereafter an equally reputable user by the name of creamsugar who is similarly known for having access to NPD Group data posted the following pie chart:

Piechart.jpg

What you’re looking at is a pie chart of the sales between the Xbox One, PS4, and Wii U during November 2014. Given that it’s confirmed that Microsoft took the month, it means that it holds the lion’s share of the pie, or the left side. Sadly, the Wii U takes the smallest portion, and is estimated to have had around 200,000 sales during the month.

As far as what the huge chunk equates to, several sources, including The Verge’s Tom Warren andGeekwire, have confirmed that the Xbox One sold 1.2 million units during November 2014 in North America alone. This sets several records, and makes it one of the best-selling consoles in a single month in video game industry history.

Looking back at the chart, if the Xbox One’s piece is 1.2 million, then the PS4′s is around 750,000 to 800,000. The exact number is yet to be released, and Sony has been tight-lipped about NPD.

Previous to November 2014, the PS4 had a lead of around 1.1 million units over the Xbox One in North America. More than one-third of that evaporated in a single month. Additionally, the Xbox One Assassin’s Creed Unity bundle is still topping charts at its $349 price point.

When it comes down to it, Microsoft had a rough start this generation, but has taken drastic measures to improve not only how it handles feedback and consumer needs, but the design of its product. The mandatory Kinect has been removed, Xbox Live is no longer required for a variety of services, Xbox Games with Gold is beginning to trickle out games worth the attention of gamers, and monthly updates have significantly improved the quality of life of the Xbox One. All this combined with a strong Fall 2014 software portfolio has helped it succeed when it was absolutely needed. Oh, and that price drop obviously helped, too.

It’s important to note that the PS4 is currently still leading the Xbox One by a significant margin worldwide, though both consoles are selling incredibly well when compared to any previous generation.

Will be interesting to see if Sony will react or not. Overall good competition though in November!

I see both companies having similar promos going forward as soon as the leftover BF bundles sell out as some retailers still have some lingering around.

So in 2015 when things are back to normal and all the BF and Xmas promos are over:

PS4 = $400 with a pack in game
X1 standalone = $400 with a pack in game
X1 Kinect bundle = $450-500 with a pack in game

All those deals,pricecuts,bundles for a measly 10K lead ?

I think it is safe to say xbone will never catch up to the PS4 now.

Imagine what happends when sony cuts the price...

See what happens when you forget to pray to your blue god? 10k was a mirage.

No way can/will MS price match Sony starting in January. They can't compete until they have a must own game.

It looks like the PS4s worldwide lead grew over the past month. I'm not sure what MS can do besides weather the storm?

Amazing how one person on a forum with a lousy track record literally posted one sentence and the internet goes ape shyt. Goes to show people should wait for reliable info and stop being net-sheep.

And then that Tim Dog guy jumped in and trolled people with his fictitious 1M number for each system ensuring his gap fit CBOAT's. And some people fell for that too. Anyone with half a brain cell should have known Tim's post was bogus as he posted the sales of each to the very last digit, which never happens. It's always rounded to the nearest thousand at minimum.

As for the 10k mirage. It's actually truthful..... but you have to multiply the size of it by 40!

the infamous CBOAT

he is still around? thought he got banned from neogaf
He's still there. And he's banned again. He never seems to get a perma-ban though. Someone on the board said his ban is 5 months. Not sure if that length is true though.

Or the can keep trying to poor all resources into NA and UK since they still outsell Sony in last gem sales while only controlling those two areas.

If I was Microsoft I would announce an Xbox One bundle in January for $350 that has Mincraft and Forza Horizon 2. Run that against Bloodborn and The Order. I still think Fable will be released in the spring. April I'm guessing.

I guess your prayers for your green god came true ;)

that's were we are much different, I'm not emotionally invested in console sales bruh. Its fun to talk about maybe, but MS could outsell sony 100 to 1 this gen, or vice versa neither helps me. Just about games bruh

If that is the case, I see PS4 winning the monthly NPD's once again. If MS was smart, they'd keep the $350 price tag to compete and try to win back US and UK since those are the territories they can only dominate now moving forward.

Win for MS though in November in terms of overall sales.
Win for Sony in terms of financial interests. Kept the original price and still sold ~850-900k.

That is a super impressive recovery from Microsoft, I don't think they could have played that any better.

The only dilemma they have is about putting the price back up in January.

You are not fooling anyone but yourself bruh

And yeah we are much different, I don't bitch and moan about sony and PS4 collecting dust, while praising MS every chance i get... Even your profile picture says it all... Not emotionally invested ?

Based on what is official, all we know at the moment is the Xbox one was the top seller. Would be nice to see some official hardware numbers. Oh, and COD reigns supreme, again.

What I find amazing is GTA 5 still killing it. After 35 million sales you would think its charting days were over, but nope. Staying on software, it is a shame Dragon Age is nowhere to be seen, the game is awesome, not without its faults, but awesome nonetheless.

The YTD gap in the U.S has closed to around 550,000 and the LTD gap has closed to around 730,000.

With that momentum they could possibly half those figures or more coming out of December.

I think based on Nov #'s that X1 will crush PS4 pretty bad this December because I guess GTA V bundles were really limited then. Sony not having these in stock is going to kill them in December because even though Nov is a big month. December #'s are always higher than Nov's because week before Christmas is always bigger than BF.

I think December will be closer with PS4 selling a little better and Xbox One dropping just a bit but still winning overall by 200k.
