The Xbox Onesie

BTW check out the On Demand E3 videos on your Xbox's if you haven't. Finally had a chance to watch Day 2. They have an interview with Recore devs. It's sounding very Metroid Primish in gameplay. Explore environments and upgrade your robot friend.

Elite controller looks freaking amazing. I checked out after the initial price announcement but I'm back in. This thing is a serious evolution over your standard controller. Should have a much better lifespan as well to hopefully off-set the cost over the long term.

How much does the elite controller cost?

I'm all in on the controller. It's worth 2.5 games. Hopefully I can find a deal before Halo 5 comes out. There are so many cool things about it. Most under-rated at this point is the ability to switch layouts on the fly. To go from a run and gun layout to one that benefits driving a vehicle. You can switch layouts with a quick button flick depending on the map you're in...or the gun you pick up.

To me the controller is the #1 most important thing when gaming. It effects every game you play. The benefits are residual. Only reason I wouldn't pay that much is because controllers break down. This one seems made in a way to last a long time. All I need is confirmation that this thing is as sturdy and durable as advertised.

Fact that it also works on Windows means you could be using this controller for a decade or more.

I'll be sure to check out that Recore, I've seen a lot of talk about it on these forums recently.

But the Elite controller is nothing new to gaming. The only thing truly new about it is the MS branding. These types of pads have been available on the 360 and PS3 for years now. It is a very nice, sturdy looking pad but the only peripheral I can justify (for myself) spending that kind of money on is an arcade stick.

That said. If MS w/Bethesda released a Fallout 4 branded elite pad I would pay up to $200 for it without hesitating.

For those of you thinking about getting an external HDD, I think the best value is a 2tb or 3tb drive. If possible, look for 7200 rpm models.

- 2tb drives should be $80-100, self powered through the USB port and slim
- 3tb drives should be $120-150 I think. But unless the companies came out with sleeker models, the 3tb+ drives are probably bigger (more like a small book) and you may have to connect it to a power source too
- 4tb drives are probably around $150 or so, unless prices have dropped lately

So weigh the pros and cons about cost, size, how much content you think you'll download. And whether or not needing to plug in a bigger HDD to a power source is an eyesore/hassle or not. For me, I got lucky with a 3tb deal and I don't care about it being a bit bigger (black Seagate). And my power bar is 2 ft away, so I don't care about plugging it in as it needs it's own power source. If you go with a bigger drive that needs a power plug, make sure your power bar has enough space as the plug is big at the end for mine (the adapter style) which takes up two spaces worth unless I plug it into the last slot.

Make note the external drive adds to your current internal drive which is 500gb (more like 400gb after the OS takes up space). The data can be swapped/directed to internal or external as you want.

I have no idea why the Metal Gear games are so popular.

I have seen comments that the new one looks like "art" I am sorry but it looks like exactly what it is, by the numbers sandbox title done by Japanese developer trying ape a western style of game genre.

The 40min e3 demo was IMO horrible.

I loved the MGS 1 & 2. After those, I kind of lost interest. MGS 4 was Ok.
I have no plans to buy MGS:phantom Pain until it is at least £20

"...by the numbers"? Do you know what that phrase means?

There are no games that tell a story like Kojima. None.
There are no military styled GTA games. None.

By the numbers? GTFO.

Played MGS 1 on PS1 and never played any of the sequels. I find it a bore fest and the story telling is childish.

I'm glad people are waking up. I never understood the hype on that game.

I played that demo and it was nothing crazy. Choas Theory is far superior then this.

Yeah it's immensely popular and i understood that when it was still about MGS, MGS2 (even though it's a big let down in my book) MGS3 was amazing, MGS4 ehhhh. And MGSV really doesn't look all that special. Some cool things like the robot and the dog, but i feel people greatly exeggerate about this one. Or maybe they are genuine but i don't see it their way.

Oh my god, the hypocrisy in the post is downright amusing considering the junk you just got thread banned for in the TR thread.

Woah.. sorry didn't mean to get a dude banned!

in other news my COD 1TB is boxed and being sent off for repair/replacement after the Disc drive sounded like it was eating my Blu Ray :)

Must be karma for dissing MGS :

MGS is kinda like the Gran Turismo games, they are still relevant to millions simply they don't keep up with the times. Millions of people still wear mullets and have no idea its out of style. This new MGS looks fun to me personally though.

I'm quasi interested in this, but that new Ghost Recon looks more interesting to me. I LOVED MGS 1, and I liked MGS 2 until toward the end. The games cut-scenes are too long and the stealth game-play isn't even a shadow of Splinter Cell's, imo. I tried 4, but the control/camera is just not up to snuff. I even bought last years demo. At least they are going in the right direction with the control.

I like the story focus, but it gets waaay too convoluted with too much pseudo philosophical yammering from people I don't think fully understand what they are talking about.

Still, I'm not gonna dog the game. I hope it ends up everything the fans love and maybe one day I will play and enjoy it.

It's 'pseudo philosophical yammering,' nobody knows what they are talking about:grin:

Can I also state, whilst on a roll, what is the love for Shenmue? I played both, 1 on the Dreamcast and 2 on the XBOX and can quite safely say I have played 100's of better games with better story telling and deeper lore and character development.........I can understand the FF7 stuff and the excitement for that, I will be buying that for the PC, but this........no way.

I LOVE Shenmue. I fell in love with it's story, setting and characters after the first one..the second one was very cool and ended bitter sweet. It's hard to explain sometimes..it's one of those games you either love to pieces or don't. Ryo Hazuki's journey for revenge actually felt like it was my quest. People don't understand (LoL). Panzer Dragoon Saga and Lost Odyssey were the same for me.

I guess we are all different.......If Rare had got up and said we are remaking Goldeneye I would be the same.......or if they said they were remaking COD4 or (really going back) remaking the Wally Week series as one game or something like that! Pivotal games in my day.....
