But we're not just talking about 4K. The interviewer was asking about benefits on a 1080p set. He flat out said no benefits at all. Phil could have clarified "you'll see increased graphicaly fidelity on 1080p sets but not Scorpio's full potential" or along that line instead of "buy the Xbox One S, no benefits for you from the Scorpio if you have a 1080p set."
If you purchased a 4K HDR Blu-ray player wouldn't you get a 4K monitor to take full advantage of that expensive product ? it's not rocket science.. Sure it will work on a 1080 P television, but what would be the point ?

Yes, eventually you'd want to get a 4K to take full advantage but in the meantime, what if the 4K bluray player could downsample and add increased effects to your movies? That would be the point of owning one for a 1080p set.

Ok, so back on topic, Scorpio, after the tech heads took a look at what we know so far, is going to be an absolute beast of a console. It's going to be head and shoulders above anything that's currently on the market and coming down the pipeline. This is a rather 180 degree turn from what we've heard in the past year or so, "MS is exiting the console business", "They're going to sell off everything", "They lost all their heart and don't care about hardcore gamers." Well, Scorpio is shaping up to be the BIGGEST care of hardcore console gamers of all time.

It's like that moment when the 360 was announced and we all had to go out to buy HD TV's as we knew it was the only way to game on the 360....it's that sort of feeling....48 hours later and I'm still buzzing about the Scorpio...can't wait for the leaks to continue all the way up to the launch of the Neo...if I had money to put a bet on (saving for new TV) Microsoft need to soft reveal the Scorpio the day they reveal the NEO.....gamers will then have a real choice to make.

I am now looking at a decent 4K UHD to buy this year.....quick some one start a thread!

How dare Microsoft give consumers choice and encourage them to choose whatever best fits them instead of giving the Best Buy "You need all these MegaK's and TeraP's" treatment?

1080 P sets are on their way out the door . next time you're in at Best Buy or an electronics store take a look around as far as what they're selling. Everything is going 4K . I figured the only thing you would be concerned about here is if Destiny will be 4K ? Lol. I'm teasing .

Why are we discussing a Sony exclusive in the Xbox forum? :smash::crazy:

The consumers should be given informed choices, yes. Glad you agree.

There isn't even enough 4k content out yet and you're saying 1080p is out the door, lol.

Also, Destiny is a multiplatform title, not a PS exclusive. ;)

Reading some of the reactions (some on gaf posted here) it seems whatever MS does angers the same folks. Sounds like the same people calling out MS for 1080p performance issues on xb1 crying about MS promising 4k scorpio now?

That's what I don't get either...

There's going to be no Scorpio exclusives, so what 4k games are we going to see? Are multiplats going to have a 4k version?

Don't forget VR versions scorpio will offer that xb1 won't.

Well the games will be @ 4k, netflix, and uhd bluray. You saying "yet" scorpio launches over a year from now so they'll be more.

Here's a really good interview. Clears up a lot of the confusion. (Baring you were confused in the first place...)

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articl...pio-and-xbox-one-s-sales-dont-actually-matter

Good read.. And yes, X1 games will oc run better on Scorpio

"Halo 5 runs it wants to max out at 1080p/60 frames per second or highest resolution/60 frames per second. As scenes get more complex, the vertical resolution will shrink... to keep the 60 frames per second. When that same game's running on Scorpio, because of the compute capability, it's effectively is going to run at its max resolution the whole time. And so you will see advantages like that when your Xbox One games are running on Scorpio."

So after reading this I see there are a select few trying to make the worlds most powerful gaming system a bad thing. And here I thought everyone was bragging up the system with more power.

Huh.

Plainview we need a goal most moving emoticon.

Oh god , He knows it's a multi platform title. he wasn't being serious . And second , I was implying that hardware companies meaning , Samsung, Vizio , LG , Sony are not going manufacture hardly anymore 1080 P sets. Hell I don't think any of those companies above even manufactured a 1080 P set for the 2016 models. They are all 4K, Hence why I said 1080 P is on the way out. Never said anything about how much content is available for 4K . Now I understand why you are misconstruing what Microsoft said or your just trolling . there's no hope.. Smh

Style - It's in white, and still has that horrible two tone crap. No improvement here.
HDD capacity - Not really. The current console can have much more capacity via external storage. Plus, 2TB really isn't all that much. Yeah yeah, you meant internal smernal.
Better Performance - We shall see. I doubt the improvement will be significant in general. Hopefully I will be proven wrong.
4K - Totally irrelevant to the majority. Not even that much content to use on it anyway.
I'd say be most substantial benefit would come from the HDR, if you have a compatible set.

I think the introduction of Scorpio and Neo will start the transition from 1080p to 4K but it won't be until the end or next iteration of consoles where 4K will be mainstream (kind of like how the 360 and PS3 introduced the majority to HD gaming although not full HD).

Sorry, sarcasm doesn't show nicely on the internet.

You have a link that says that Samsung, Vizio, LG, Sony are not manufacturing 1080p sets for 2016? I'd like to read up on this more. I still see many 1080p sets in stores these days so 4k sets are definitely not going to be mainstream yet for another couple years. Instead of 1080p being on the way out, more like 4k is just now starting to be on the way in.

For anyone who has played the PC version of Just Cause 3, you know what 6 teraflops will do for consoles!

He can't guarantee upgraded graphics for every game or that you'd notice the difference on a 1080p set. That'd be a lie.

The complexity of what would need to be explained is so far beyond a simple statement. We'll certainly know more about what it's going to be like later but just take note for a second that we are 18 months out..

It feels like I've traveled back in time and plucked a post from someone still hung up on 480i standard definition sets when 360 came out. Just no pls.

You can snag a big 4k on the low, right now.

I'm sort of agreeing with the scorpio hate. 900p we can all agree is laughable and comparable to 480i 4:3 stretched to 16:9 overweight look. Now the 4k is way too much we should just settle for 1080p and we know the console that has us covered in that dept don't we...:hehe:

Resolutiongate V2.0!!!!

People get scared unless it is the console of their choice pushing the industry forward. Afraid MS may drop the ball? If so sony will be there to pick it up.

Things i'm certain of:

  1. Post 2017, all MS exclusives will have Scorpio as the lead and scale down to XBOne
  2. There will be Scorpio exclusives at the point it is no longer viable to release on Vanilla XBO, whether this is in 2020 when the Taurio is released or in 10 years time, eventually Xbox One will be phased out
  3. Scorpio is a 2 year head start to next gen
  4. 4K is great, but if it's a case of looking last gen at 4K and uber amazing at 1080p, gimme dat
  5. Oculus rift will be the big partner, but Scorpio will support any headset that works on windows 10

Glad to hear it will be up to the developers how they use the power of Scorpio. If you want to play the best looking games on a console, then you'll need the Scorpio. If you want the best VR experience on console, you'll need the Scorpio. All the downplaying in the world isn't going to change that.

Here's a dillypickle.

Lets say MS releases Scalebound for Scorpio

Say the XBO version is 1080p/30 and Scorpio is 4k/60

Say If I buy the digital XBO version, will it "upscale" to 4k/60fps or will my play anywhere digital rights also allow me to own the Scorpio version and I just play that instead?

Dunno. Phil said that you buy one game and can play it on any device you choose. I reckon if you decide to rock the Scorpio version 100% of the time, thats up to you.

Scorpio = 4K/60FPS?

More likely 4K/60 on indie games. I highly doubt you see 4K/60FPS on AAA/AA titles. My guess 4K/30 or 1080/60.

Eh. I'm sure it will depend on the game, but Forza been 1080p 60 on little Xbox One, so ima be damned if Forza 7 ain't able to increase the res with 5 x the floppage.

I didn't get the impressions that there'd be different versions you'd buy. More like different graphics settings like on PC. Ultra high, high, etc.

I could be wrong though. It made it sound like you buy the game and it runs as best as it can on whatever hardware you have.
