To be fair, there's always the "Bill Maher bump". A lot of people watch Realtime, so getting a couple minutes at the start of that is big.

I find it hilarious that Marianne Williamson was one of the contenders. I remember her from my years in CA, back in the heyday of the new age movement. I tried to read the book that made her famous, Return to Love, but couldn't get into it. Too treacly sweet. I heard there are some conservatives that are contributing to her campaign, probably just for the lulz.

She seems like a genuine person who wants people to be happy, love, and treat each other with kindness. It could be all a ruse, but I don't think so. Hopefully the digging that's going on towards her, late nite TV is doing it in a mostly fun way, doesn't deter who she seems to be.

First post debate polling

  • Joe Biden: 33% (-5)
  • Bernie Sanders: 19% (0)
  • Kamala Harris: 12% (+6)
  • Elizabeth Warren: 12% (-1)
  • Pete Buttigieg: 6% (-1)
  • Cory Booker: 3%
  • Beto O’Rourke: 2% (-2)
  • Andrew Yang: 2%
Everyone else 1 or less

Oh, it's not a ruse. She's genuine all right. She's been on this same road for 30+ years. It's all based in Course in Miracles, if you know anything about that. I just find it hilarious that she found her way up there as a candidate. I saw a tweet from her where she talked about how funny she found all the jokes, calling them "understandable," so she seemed to be rolling with the punches pretty well.

There's no way it'll deter her from being her. She's been this way for decades. More power to her. Light certainly does cast out darkness. I imagine she envisions herself as doing exactly that -- a presence that brings love and compassion to an arena filled with judgment, hate, anger, vilification, us vs. them, fear, selfishness/ego, dishonesty, control ... all of that.

That is wonderful to read.

It's a single poll, though. Other polling had Warren ahead of Sanders going into the debate, so who knows?

I don't listen to his show.

I'm so bored in my job I look for stuff to listen to.

Both Andrew Yang and Tulsi Gabbard have been on Joe Rogan. I'm not sure how much of a bump that gives them.

For what it's worth, I did enjoy listening to candidates in a Podcast format commercial free and also no live audience distraction.

Also, Andrew Yang was on Sam Harris' podcast.

Another one has it

Biden 30%
Harris 13%
Warren 13%
Sanders 13%
Buttigieg 11%
Booker 6%
Castro 3%

The one consistent is RIP Beto

How is Biden so high? He continuously trips over himself and got destroyed by Kamala.

Off the back of Obama. This early a lot of its going to be electability and the perception is he has the best chance to beat Trump. He isn't going to win if he isn't better than what he has shown.

Simple name recognition. Even I'm just learning who a couple of these people are. Honestly I didn't know what Tulsi Gabbard looked like until I saw her on TV last week.

That's why early polls are to be taken with a grain of salt. At this point in 2015 for the GOP, Trump was at 1% and Jeb Bush was leading big.

Great country we got here

The sad thing, that's pretty mild compared to the stuff said about her by the border patrol a-holes. (Not everyone who does the job, but every one in the group referenced below) :

Some of the candidates who were basically ignored during the debates should offer to do 1 v 1 debate/discussions on CNN, they'll never be treated with respect by the network moderators, Chuck Todd was pretty dismissive of Yang when he interviewed him recently.
