Ghost of Tsushima - Directors Cut Rated By ESRB For PS4/5

I hope the reviews tomorrow are real and not just journalists being afraid of that Sony backlash

Sounds like a good game but one that doesn't bring much new to the table of open world games

84 so far on MC. Really good for a brand-new IP! I’ll wait for a price drop, but looking forward to your impressions:

Since this guys review was so important for those that were determined to not like TLOU2, he really likes this game a lot.

Dang, the stealth being too easy is disappointing! You could tell the throwing knives and bow would be overpowered from the videos, so expected that. Didn’t expect it to have a not so great camera though, that seemed fine in the demos.

Ehh, still probably day 1 for the setting and combat

Alot of the reviews mention busy work. That sounds in line with Assassin's Creed Side missions. That's fine. As long as the game let's me live out my Vagabond fantasy I'm cool.

83 isn't bad at all. What IS bad is that it hasn't unlocked on my PS yet :( Those 2 days are taking 2 long!

Oddly enough I don't expect every new game to redefine the genre it's a part of. Game looks fun, employs systems & mechanics I typically enjoy and occurs in a setting that hasn't been used in a long time. My body is ready!

I usually go to Destructoid and they gave it a 9.5. Won't be playing it for a while though and possibly not until PS5 or even PC if it ever happens.

Eurogamer is my always go to for reviews.

Ghost of Tsushima's stealth, meanwhile - which is prominent enough to be the driving force of its story, and technically half of your own arsenal - is frustratingly unsystemic and largely underbaked. It's very much stealth-lite, closest to modern era Assassin's Creed with even fewer toys, and so you'll be frequently defaulting to the usual suspects: X-ray vision, throw a jingly distraction bell, pop a smoke bomb if you get in trouble and try again. All of that couples meekly with a range of insta-fail stealth missions and yet another selection of excessively crunching, crackling and squelching neck stabs.

It's desperately frustrating, because I maintain that Ghost of Tsushima is still, largely, quite fun. The problem is it's an easy, breezy, lite beer kind of fun - the kind that Sucker Punch is known for, after all - and the blanket genericism of it just doesn't sit well against such a po-faced tone. It's another game fallen victim to the palatability blender, coming out the other side as a slightly formless smudge of every genre, without a mastery of any. Going back to Ghost of Tsushima's roots, as an American game inspired by the comics and the movies of Japan, in a way it's quite apt. It's what happens when you want to pay homage, but don't want to add anything new of your own. It's Hollywood.

That read like a good review, a bit disappointed to hear the stealth is underutilized but will end up getting in the future anyway as I like the style.

Initially disappointed to hear stealth wasn't much of a factor however the in depth reviews I've seen from people who understand good game design and gameplay loops say this game is really good. Watching the videos, the combat looked fun. 30 hours sounds like a good length for an open world with varied areas.

Story just isn't much of a factor for me. Gameplay matters a lot more than story.

I'm 100% with you on the gameplay > story. I've avoided reviews as they do not factor in for me and I didn't want to watch them and see a bunch of footage of the game. In these types of games though where stealth or action are both on the table I find that stealth can be as much of a factor as the player makes it. I have a friend who plays far cry and has literally never cleared an outpost undetected whereas for me that is always the plan at the outset, even if it doesn't always pan out in the end.

For me its immersion and that sense of place. This looks like it has that magic that made me walk my horse in the Witcher and Red Dead.

The only footage of this game, and really coverage in general outside of skimming the Destructoid article, is the initial reveal or whatever one had the flute guy playing us a tune. Anyways, from what I remember the combat looked really good. Origins combat isn't too bad (btw for an AC game I rarely even bother with stealth) but recently Sekiro has been at the top for me in terms of combat, with the parry system and posture. I also liked Nioh for the stance changes it offered. If this game is similar to either or a blend then I'd have fun with it.

This game looks to have both immersion and gameplay. Red Dead couldn't hold me due to gameplay. I feel this may strike a better balance. Pretty hyped about it.

This guy sites both those games and says Ghost is sort of a more approachable balance of the 2, but to me the best thing he mentions is that as you progress the combat gets harder not because of enemy HP, but because you face more skilled opponents.
