TXB forums closed by IGN

That's hilarious and sad all at the same time. IGN now acting like they cared or they knew what was going on. The forums are overrun by bots so you got redirected here! Welcome to 2010.

Didn't Simpsonfan007 used to post at TXB?

Yup, and he seemed to have more power than the mods. I never understood why he wasn't able to get through to someone at IGN unless he just ignored the situation along with the rest of them.

Yeah, he was one of the unpaid editorial staff, if I remember right. He wrote a review or two that I enjoyed.

Hello to all Team Xbox users! Don't be alarmed, you were redirected here from forums.teamxbox.com on purpose as those forums have been taken down. The site has recently been overrun with spam bots, and we're finding that running two separate locations for Xbox fans seemed redundant so we're consolidating. You'll find IGN's forums more active and have access to active moderators as well.

That said, we know that losing your previous username/account is not ideal especially if you've spent so much time at TXB. Once you've created an IGN account, please private message @SimpsonsFan007 and @Lost_In_Translation to confirm you had a previous TXB account. Once confirmed, we will try to get you your old post count back as well as a free period of IGN Prime. We can't guarantee you your old username, but you're welcome to see if it's available all the same.

We're sorry to see TXB go, but we're happy to consolidate all Xbox users here to a more active community. Welcome to IGN!

Is this a joke? Really? [laughs] Oh boy.....

Somebody needs to tell SiskoKid20 to take all of bots-crap with him/her/it. We begged, we cried, we begged again to IGN for many years to help us. And now, SiskoKid20 is about to do something about it? Don't he/she/it even realize it's too late now?

It's still working for me...o_O

Edit: It only redirects you to Ign if you're signed in it seems.

You know what? I'm leaving here for IGN. It's where I started, so all of this will have come full circle. See ya guys.

;p

I don't really care. It's IGN's property, they can do what they want. We're all doing our own thing.

Someone said "yes" to IGN. Blame them.
Unless you want to go down the road of calling Shock a complete liar, TXB wasn't going to last another year if IGN hadn't bought them. So, on that note, I can't hate IGN for providing an online hangout
for a decade any more than I hate MS for giving me a free email service in hotmail.

Really? Do you not realize by now had that not happened TXB would have been closed by the end of 2003? Also, things were going great until about 2005-6. It wasn't until the people who brought us into IGN, mainly people like Mark Jung who was in charge of IGN at the time, moved on and things unraveled. And if you really want to blame anyone, blame Fox New Corp. When they bought IGN the leadership at IGN at the time was too new to have a clue what to do and Fox didn't give IGN much support, which in turn lead to IGN giving us and other sites like Voodoo, Vaults and Planets less support.

But the real nail in the coffin was Fox buying MySpace and letting it s*** the bed for half a billion dollars.

So come on, please quit blaming the TXB acquisition for its demise. In truth it enabled it to last a decade longer than it would have without it.

It wasn't. But the truth is I was prepared to just let it close up than to sell it and have it destroyed. That's why we refused to allow IGN to implement Insider, which they were very heavy on at the time. They wanted us to become a 'premium' site but I refused. So at first we turned down the offer. It wasn't until we spent 3 months talking about what TXB was and why it was growing that people like Mark realized what we had and understood that leaving it to its own device was best. And ultimately it meant careers for people working the main staff.

Rob went on to work for both EA and Microsoft, where he is now for the second time. Tony went on to be one of the top engineers at IGN. Nate went on to write for IGN and also worked for Apple.

So please don't tell me that selling to IGN was simply about money in my pocket. It was about giving the community the best chance to survive, and it did for another decade. And it was about allowing some of the people who worked so hard to create it, the chance to make something more out of it.

Yeah, my old forum link to GXD is sending me to the IGN boards. When I used the link P13 gave -- forum.teamxbox.com -- I got this message:

Seems like it is gone for good. Kind of funny that they're trying to redirect people to IGN. A bit late, guys.

Recently?

Wow. I don't think a better exit strategy could have been planned and executed. I can't thank those who headed this enough. Again, Kudos!

For about a year I toyed with the idea of setting up a small place for us to go in case IGN pulled the plug abruptly. I knew how quickly the site would be gone if I stopped modding. I spent hours each day keeping it all together. All it really took was one day of not banning a bot to have every single forum's first page to be all bots.

I joined txb before the original Xbox was released . damn. That sure was a long time ago.

This could actually end up working in Union's favor. Maybe that post at IGN will move some traffic this way.

Thanks for approving my account, whoever did it! :)

Guys, I figured I'd pop in here to say hello and mention what I put in the IGN thread as well:

Hey Plainview, good to see you man. It saddens me as well to see the way that IGN had completely ignored things at TXB. You and I had many discussions about this on the mod board at TXB. I hope you understand that I was basically in the same boat as you, completely powerless to do anything to help us fix things at the site and forums. Back when they made the decision to close down the main site, IGN also let Evil_Homer go as well, and the last bastion of hope for the site as well.

I completely disagree with the decision that IGN made to shutter TXB. It was, in my opinion, short-sighted to think that whole familial community was going to just come to IGN for the continuance of their community.

So, sorry for everything there; just wanted to make sure you knew I felt your pain first-hand as well, as I was helpless to enact the changes we all desperately needed.

Sad panda.

I'm really happy to see that the TXB community has been able to find a new home where they could wholesale move to. And again, I'm really sad that IGN had made the short-sighted decision to close a great community. Bad upper-management decision in my opinion.

That was me. I'm the only one that can approve members. It was stupid of IGN on their part but we benefited. I'm not sure what took me so long to get this site up?
