The bottom line in all of this is that Microsoft have a lot to prove. Not only in terms of creating new exciting IP's, but also now on the power front.

You can't make the claim of "most powerful console" and then under deliver for whatever reason/s.

I think they changed it from "most powerful console" to "most powerful Xbox ever" now.

I don't know man, after trying out Demon's souls remake in both 30 (4k) and 60 fps (dynamic 4k), I vastly prefer 60 fps because of the smoother visuals and also increased response. It also comes down to what type of game it is as the 60 fps gives you an advantage in movement and attacks because of the mechanics in Demon's Souls Remake.
I agree if a locked 60 FPS was what we are getting now, but the issue is that is seems to jump around a bit from the DF tests and drops into the 40's at times. Plus I have a huge problem with screen tearing, but that is probably more just a personal issue.

Yeah 40's dips and screen tears are definitely noticeable and annoying. If you have a VRR TV, that will help with the screen tears but performance will still take a hit. John from DF thinks they should have lowered the dynamic 4k resolution even further to compensate for it, especially the Xbox versions seeing the performance hits.

I questioned FoxyGamesUK's credibility on the power front. So far, he's been accurate.

Or was NXgamer? I get the two confused.

Breaking news! Sometimes launch games aren't optimized well.

People look for any excuse to bash MS. The fact that ACV has similar problems on PC shows that it isn't the Xbox hardware.

By the way, ACV runs just fine on my Series X. I've never noticed the FPS drops. Not saying they aren't there, but I think DF is cherry picking some scenes. I don't notice the screen tearing, either my TV does something to hide it or I just don't see it. I've been very happy with the game performance wise, and I'm pretty "snobby" when it comes to FPS. As a launch game, things will only improve with future games.

Lol. Yeah you're right They did change it.
When the heck did they sneak that edit in there?

They didn't change it. They still say the most powerful console ever, as well as their most powerful console.

November 10, 2020:

Xbox Series X, the most powerful next-generation console

Of interest in that article as well is this:

More incredible games are coming to Xbox Series X|S before the end of the year including Destiny 2: Beyond Light launching November 10 (optimized for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S on December  and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War launching November 13. When Cyberpunk 2077 launches on December 10, it will look and play best on our next gen consoles and take advantage of Smart Delivery technology, giving you the best version for whatever Xbox console you own.

Note that they talk about Destiny 2 Beyond Light and Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War launching. But say nothing about the graphics. Then the next sentence they say : "When Cyberpunk 2077 launches on December 10, it will look and play best on our next gen consoles"

They didn't say that about Destiny and COD. Maybe Cyberpunk has had more time with the GDK and they already knew this?

Watch dogs was 720p (ish) on Xbox at release, watch dogs 2 dynamic 900p and much better looking... Hell, look at Division 2 on vanilla xbox one, it looks a gen apart from watch dogs
I'm not worried about games looking like the cross gen games we see now a few years down the line.
Only worried about them having to take in account the gimped series S and PS5.

They always said "most powerful xbox" or "our most powerful console". People just did what they do and read it how they want to read it.

"Xbox Series X, the most powerful next-generation console, empowers developers to deliver on their creative visions and dreams"

From the link Hedon provided. I mean on paper they are not wrong. The specs do suggest Xbox should have an advantage over the ps5.

So Ps5 will be holding Xsx back? Interesting.

I think I read somewhere that the PS5 is outperforming the RTX 2080TI for Valhalla so that's a surprise. They tried putting similar settings on the PC at the same resolution and 60fps and they still had issues maintaining 60fps. So the optimization issues are definitely there. Not sure how Ubi made that work on the Ps5.

UPDATE: The 15 per cent performance advantage mentioned here is averaged across a specific cross-section of play. As the graphs show, 'in the moment' differences can be as high as 25 per cent.

So turns out it's an average of 15%, some parts can be up to 25% difference.

I mean that's like every iteration of assassin's Creed and call of duty every year. The core gameplay is virtually the same but just looks different no? Do we call those old games now too?
Bad example. You should be using BioShock vs the remastered BioShock, for example. If the gameplay is identical with graphical and quality of life changes, it's the same game. It may play better, load faster, and be generally more enjoyable, but if this is true:
In that sense, nothing has changed since 2009. Every enemy is in the exact same spot in the new Demon’s Souls as it was in the old Demon’s Souls. Every enemy still behaves identically. Every landmass is unchanged, and therefore intimately familiar to someone like me, who platinumed the first Demon’s Souls. (This is less of a brag than a reassurance that I spent a lot of time exploring the game’s kingdom of Boletaria. I remember almost all of the shortcuts, but in the PS5 version, I’m still trying to take my time and see every new coat of paint.) The same tactics I used to beat Demon’s Souls a decade ago are still applicable here.

Then the *GAME* is the same. The presentation is improved. The quality of life is improved. It's still impressive. But it's not a new game.

Oh I get it, it's not a new game but it is a full remake and not just a sub 720p BC title that looks like garbage on a 4K screen. Like I said I never would have purchased it had it just been the PS3 version ported over or playable through BC, old ugly games don't really interest me at this stage there are too many new things to play that I want, things that show me why I wanted a new gen console. I would much rather play a Fable 2 remake than the BC version on xbox but I know that's just a personal thing and not everyone feels the same about that.

That's your right. Hell, I'm not even suggesting it's not better because of the improvements. Surely if given the choice I'd play the newer one, but I wouldn't call it a 'new' game - just a remastered version of a classic game.

Probably something as simple as they got a PS5 dev kit earlier or just something about the engine works better. Could be a million things.

I don't think we need to start ripping down the "most powerful console" label just yet. ;)

I haven't noticed the frame rate stutters at all because of the VRR. MS should have included comparable TVs in the XSX box. ;)

Do I have to? Oh, don't have my launch X1 anymore. Crisis averted. (I'm not bothering to install it on the XSX, but I was happy with it on my TV with the 1X, at least as long as I can be happy with the game).

I agree although it's a remake not a remaster :p

Of course, it's a mathematical certainty at some point.

Only if consoles can reach their peak theoretical numbers 100% of the time which is impossible unfortunately.

If anything it'll be the XSS holding the XSX back seeing as it's 1/3 of its tflop and running on the same architecture. 4 < 12, right ?

It's a new game for me and I'm happy to be able to experience it for the first time like this. And going by impressions online and streams, seems a lot of fans are as well.

I'm also thinking the increased frequencies of the GPU at 2.2ghz or so helps the Ps5 a lot to sustain as close to 60 fps as possible. I believe AMD SmartShift is a new feature of RDNA2 .

When I overclock my GPU I have ran tests and stressors to determine stability and for sure, increasing the core and memory frequencies will help to increase fps.

Lucky you. You bought a new TV for next gen?
Last Christmas time and Samsung is a bunch of twatwaffles so they never enabled hdmi 2.1, but otherwise it's quite nice. We upgrade rarely, so we spent a bit.

A lot of Xbox fans were bashing the PS5 when it was revealed to be 10.3 tflops theoretical peak so it's more of a statement for the PS5 than a bash on MS. People knew the XSX was a good powerful console with all the marketing they put out but a lot of people thought the PS5 was some form of underpowered machine that would be turning to its games and exclusives to help with appeal. Turns out the PS5 is plenty powerful as we see in these launch next gen games.
