What movies have you seen recently?

The Tomorrow War - It's nice that movies like this are starting to hit streaming services rather than making us pay for tickets to see them in theaters. Not terrible, not good.

Jaws - 4KUHD - I bought this when it released last year, just barely watching the disc for the first time now. Such a great movie to watch around the 4th. Looks and sounds better than it ever has, well worth the purchase.

Love me copy. I’ve watched it a few times since picking it up and it still stands as my favorite movie of all time. Now I need to get that 4K copy of Close Encounters Of The Third Kind.

Halloween - 4KUHD - After preordering the upcoming Scream Factory Halloween 4KUHD collections, I thought I should finally give the prior version a watch so I can compare it in a few months when the new scan releases. I understand the complaints, it's a bit of a mixed bag in terms of PQ and color timing. Hopefully Dean Cundey's oversight will provide a superior version for this classic.

Gonna try including the movie posters in my reviews from now on.

This was written like a b-movie. How the hell did they get Neeson and Fishborne in this?

Still though, I enjoyed the sets, and the way they used the trucks were pretty neat. Also, I would have liked more of the truck driving aspect to be more in the forefront.

I settled on a movie that is almost the opposite. I heard of this thing on a Facebook movie group.

Movie has a slow gradual buildup introducing the characters. They're 4 criminal fugitives that fled to random South American hellhole village. They have no legit paperwork and lack money to be able to move again.

The nearby oil well catches fire and they need some dynamite to blow the well and put it out. The dynamite is old and hasn't been stored properly so it's unstable and they can't really put it on a helicopter.

So... these 4 guys accept a high offer of 10,000 each to operate 2 trucks moving dynamite through jungle roads.

Movie is fvcking nightmare fuel. It's like the Das Boot of trucking constantly on the edge of horrible death.

Is that a remake of Wages of Fear? I've not seen Wages of Fear, but have been meaning to. It's been in my Criterion channel queue since the service went live, still haven't watched it.

Both movies are based on the same book a French novel Le Salaire de la peur ( The Wages of Fear )

Black Widow - it was ok. Nothing to rave about. Kind of a by the book action movie.

Personally, this wasn't what I wanted from a Black Widow spin off. I wanted a pre-avengers movie.
i put it just above average. really like the family dynamic and action sequences were good.

i agree though, i would have preferred a pre-avengers movie

It certainly isn't the worst Marvel movie. I enjoyed this more than I did Captain Marvel or Thor 2 for example, but is nowhere near as good as say an Iron Man 1 or CA Winter Soldier.

I think they missed a trick here by treating it as a superhero movie rather than a spy thriller. Should have been more Bourne Identity rather than a superhero movie.

Jaws - Forever 10/10

A local theater had a showing of it last night. Packed house, it was awesome!
Will always love that movie, was one of my Mom's favorites and we'd always watch it together when we caught it on tv or just on blu ray etc.

I just watched Jaws 2 again for the first time in a while and that movie gets a lot of hate but I don't see why, yeah it's not as good as the first one but still it's head and shoulder above every other shark movie out there. The only other "shark movie" I've seen that I really like is The Shallows.

I guess I'm a bit forgiving with sequels to my favorite movies, I don't hate Halloween 2 (1981) either, it actually bugs me a bit that the new ones totally skip that movie and the brother/sister storyline. Even if they wanted to drop the brother/sister part of it they could still include him going to the hospital to try to finish the job and killing a lot of other people.

A Quiet Place 2 - decent overall, but I thought the first one was better. 7.5/10

Annabelle Comes Home - Watched this because this was before the Conjuring 3 timeline - not that scary 6.5/10

Black Widow - enjoyed it for what it is. 8/10

Fear Street Part 1 1994 - Pretty fun retro style slasher film set in the 90s - 7.5/10

Fear Street Part 2 1978 - Sequel along the same 7.5/10

Fear Street Part 2: 1978 - Having some fun with these, looking forward to part 3 this weekend.

Versus - Entertaining violent Japanese action / horror movie from 20 years ago. Crazy low budget, still quite entertaining.

I revisited Jaws 2 last year and that film is actually good just not on the level of the first. Doubt I ever revisit 3 and 4 that s*** was bad then and will still be bad now lol.

Invisible Ghost - Public domain film from the early '40's starring Bela Lugosi as the lead. I heard Quentin Tarantino mention this one on the Pure Cinema Podcast recently.

Deep Cover - I haven't seen this in a number of years. The new Criterion Collection Blu-ray looks and sounds fantastic, if you told me it was a 4KUHD I'd probably have believed you. Great movie, great cast, great soundtrack, cool cinematography. This has aged surprisingly well, which isn't common for a lot of '90's crime movies.
