I feel like there has been way to much monopoly talk from “analysts” who really don’t understand how it all works. This move only puts Microsoft in 3rd place for overall revenue in the gaming industry. If Tencent had bought Bethesda 2 years ago and just locked up this deal with Activision then we could see it not go through. Tencent is number 1 in revenue and has their hands in more things in the gaming industry.

Also if you look at Activision/Blizzard as a company we really are not consolidating much at all. Outside of Diablo everything else is PC and has never seen a console release before. Then when you look at Activision they literally have 7-10 studios all working on different COD games.

This deal really helps a lot by taking the COD handcuffs off a lot of studios and potentially reviving a lot of IP’s that most likely would have never been touched again. I can’t wait to see how many legacy titles hit game pass and please for the love of god can we finally get a new Banjo game.

The more I think on it, I cant see CoD staying on PS after the merger. Maybe multiplayer titles but proper CoD? No way. Seventy billion is a huge chunk of money. You dont invest that much to keep the status quo. This is a huge, huge deal. Damn

Agreed. I don't feel this ventures into monopoly territory. Now had MS accuired one of the other console manufacturers, there might be something.

I feel like the Disney/20th Century Fox deal ventured more into the monopoly side of things than this does.
Agreed. This deal still only makes Microsoft 3rd in gaming revenue behind sony and Tencent. So monopoly isnt a concern here. I cant see this deal not going through. Its just an unprecedented event in the gaming industry. People are still trying to wrap their heads around it but, its still in the zone. Microsoft could potentially buy two more publishers and be okay before being called out for a real monopoly.

Keeping the single player stuff away from PS would be pointless seeing as only about 5% of its buyers only buy it for SP

I’m pretty sure they’ve done there research and had many lawyers look over it be initializing the process, otherwise why make it public?

It’s kinda a good thing for activision even if it falls through. With over a year until it’s finalized it gives them time to begin getting their s*** together on all fronts, cos it’s gonna take years for them to get back on people’s good side.

On this subject, the thing I'm most excited about from this acquisition is the hope that I'll finally be able to play through every COD campaign since Ghosts (the last COD I bought) on GamePass. I miss playing the COD campaigns, had fun playing the Modern Warefare remasters again on PS+ a year or two ago.

Every copy of CoD - 5% or no - is a potential GP subscriber and hardware sale. Its absolutely not pointless. Why settle for a one time $70 purchase when you can quadruple one copy potential profit? Hard disagree. Thats me though...

Their comments about COD are different enough from anything Bethesda related that either

1. They are stuck putting COD PS for awhile because of contracts and they feel like they might as well say nice things to make it look like its their choice.
or
2. They are open to negotiations with Sony to keep it there
or
3. Saying these things to avoid antitrust complications

They really can’t say anything atm, it’s illegal , considered manipulation

One thing, that if Bethesda’s purchase us anything to go by, is GP may get a lot of activision games before the deal is finalized…. Could be just an act in good faith though

70 billion and not taking the chance to keep new releases of cod etc exclusive on the service that ponys here says is doomed to fail and will never make money?
Yeah... Logic, lol

Overall seems like a weird acquisition.
I get that COD is a monster. But everything else seems niche or PC centric.
Unless they really like the studios and have seen stuff that they're working on.

Seems like a perfect acquisition. It caters to the 3 main Gamepass demographics, console, PC, mobile, with titles like COD, Diable, Total War, WoW, Candy Crush.

Agreed. I want to finally see Warcraft sequel outside of WoW.
