I feel like in a bubble, Sony over paid for Bungie. Or maybe MS underpaid for Bethesda. Cause now 3.7 billion seems high for Bungie or 7 Billion was too low for Bethesda.
Honestly, more excited about MLB. I'm sure long term, the investment will be good. Destiny doesn't do anything for me. So, it's all future-based.MS: We get MLB the Show 2022 Day One on Game Pass!!! WOOT
Sony: Hold my beer.
Well, true. We don't know what this will bring. But all games are multiplatform and they will have the backing of Sony finances to make their games bigger and better, so hopefully it's a good thing.Honestly, more excited about MLB. Destiny....meh. I'm more interested in seeing what Bungie does beyond Destiny. Hoping that can gather that Halo 1 and Halo 2 story telling magic in some other franchise.
I have my doubts.Microsoft is buying companies to make exclusives and Sony is buying them to make multiplats
IMHO.
Funny you bring up Fight Club because the author of the book said the China remix of the original Fincher ending aligned with the book. Its pretty ironic that China got called out for censorship and yet Hollywood totally changed the ending from the book.I'll say the same thing as before, better than Tencent buying up these companies. I feel much better with MS and Sony growing. Just look at what was done to the ending of Fight Club in China. Instead of the normal ending, a message comes on screen "The police stopped the explosion and everyone was arrested". We want as little of that in gaming as possible.
"The motivation behind Sony's acquisition of Bungie is to help boost their own abilities to make live-service, multiplatform games. equally, Sony unlocks the potential to Bungie to strengthen its technical capabilities and the prospect of taking its games to movies/TV"Funny you bring up Fight Club because the author of the book said the China remix of the original Fincher ending aligned with the book. I don't see how this deal helps Sony. They get one franchise with Destiny which is popular but not billions of dollars popular. Ohh well, I've been waiting to see what Bungie can do outside Destiny which rests on their Halo roots, the one attempt at a new IP failed miserably so their track record doesn't inspire confidence. This deal feels more like a way for Sony to keep something out of MSFT's hands more than it shoring up Sony in any meaningful way. Still, in the short term this deal should help stop the slide of Sony's stock value.
Hmmm, so Sony is more interested in Bungie's Live Service game. It feels like over paying for that, all they needed to do was employ the same headshrinkers who consulted with developers in their study on how best to manipulate the human psyche for profit in gaming."The motivation behind Sony's acquisition of Bungie is to help boost their own abilities to make live-service, multiplatform games. equally, Sony unlocks the potential to Bungie to strengthen its technical capabilities and the prospect of taking its games to movies/TV"
Well, movies/TV too. Though I have no idea what kind of money is generated (profit) from that.Hmmm, so Sony is more interested in Bungie's Live Service game. I got notifications that their stock was going up before the announcement, wonder if word had leaked…but this purchase was in the works for a while.Funny you bring up Fight Club because the author of the book said the China remix of the original Fincher ending aligned with the book. I see, but what was the last good Sony movie to come out that Marvel didn't make for them? And TV, that's low margin profit there unless it turns into some kind of cultural phenomenon like Squid Game. There's little chance of that happening with Destiny.Well, movies/TV too. Sony is not going to drop this much cash unless they see value. So I'll leave it up to those who know better. Plus, its not my money. However, Sony has no choice but to say Bungie will remain multiplatform since they are hoping and praying MSFT does the same for all the popular franchises it now owns. But in my opinion, for MSFT this should change nothing and they should go ahead with whatever their plans were for all the IP they acquired.
