Help Picking a New TV

Netflix and Disney seem to be most consistent with dolby vision content.

What would be the main advantages of a 2.1 receiver? I got my consoles plugged into 2.1 inputs on my TV then HDMI ARC from TV to receiver, it's tempting to upgrade for a 2.1 eARC setup but everything's sounding and working a treat.
I have an Onkyo RZ50 and having 2.1 inputs is cool the main advantage is Dirac Live room correction it puts the other room correction softwares to shame. I came from a Denon that used Audessey, and after running Dirac on the new Onkyo everything sounds better. Cleaner sound with better separation.

I’m gonna guess it’s primarily used for adding more devices to your existing device, say your tv or (some only have two hdmi 2.1 ports of the four) or receiver/amp.
But the AVR does that already, doesn't it as well as connect the the speakers/Sub

Sure, but if you need more ports. Mines hella old and only has two lol

Speakers and subs are usually wired up with banana plugs or those lil u-connectors (I don’t know the name) or just regular speaker wire where the tips are like clipped in

My Mom and Step Dad always bought Samsung tv's because back in the CRT days they were the best but every flat panel they had ended up going out on them within 3 years and needing to be repaired or replaced. I've been good with Sony and LG flat panels over the years. LG LED's seem to have gone down in quality a lot since they focused on oled though

What? Samsung CRT's were the best?

Sorry, Sony always had the best CRT's followed by Panasonic. And you got what you paid for after that.

I don't even remember Samsung CRT's to be honest.

Spades? All banana plugs or spades do is add another connection point between the speaker and AVR. Once you have wires going to your speakers there's nothing bad about bare copper wire direct on each end, the connectors are more for convenience. If the speakers have those little crimping ports, nothing wrong with that, it's going to sound just as good.

Samsung Sony and even RCA Pro Scan were all great but at least the specialty electronics shops around here all said Samsung were the best. It depends what you wanted though and back then everything was like 480i/480p so it was hard to tell. I had a 32 inch toshiba tv that I got as a floor model, it looked great and lasted nearly 20 years with only one service call lol.

When HD CRT's came out Sony were the best but flat panels started taking over not too long after that. I had a 36 inch 4:3 Sony HDTV, was over 225lbs and about 2 feet deep lol. Great tv, awesome picture but heavy as hell. The bad thing was in HD mode it would go to widescreen and leave bars on the top and bottom so it was basically closer to a 30 inch give or take widescreen tv.

We're probably talking about different time periods.

I just know that in the 80's, Sony was the best in TV's, Trinitron stuff. Panasonic were an inferior second.

90's, Sony still the best.

Then computers are getting popular, Viewsonic made the best monitors.

Then we started getting those giant big screen projection CRT's, or was that what it even was? Sorry, we never had one of those in my house.

And then, 1080p came along, and those big projection TV's were the new thing, but looked like crap compared to the Sony tube CRT TV's, but they couldn't make those big enough screen wise, and I think Samsung had a good one, maybe even someone else like Sanyo or something?

And then plasma tech came along, and Pioneer and Panasonic ran away with that, Sony dabbled in it and abandoned it.

That's my memory of best TV's. Thankfully Sony got into OLED.

And I just want to say that I am still rocking a Sony LED HX850 and it's holding up great.

Probably a new TV soonish (like maybe next year) just waiting for the right timing.

Anyone have feedback or experience with the LG OLED series ? Specifically the B2 ?

I just purchased on a whim after seeing the 65" B2 on Amazon on a sale. I'll be upgrading from a 55" Sony X950G flashed to X900H firmware.

I use our TV mainly for watching shows via streaming services like Disney plus, movies via 4K rips and gaming on the PS5.

Primarily bought it because I was thinking the upgraded picture quality, extra 10" and future proof for 120hz / VRR would justify. My wife said she would sponsor me $300 too so that was also a factor 😬

Delivery scheduled for Wednesday, I am pretty excited and I'm hoping the courier will bring into my home since my wife will be home only during the day and she cannot bring it in herself. Just reading up on what calibration settings to do once I get it and breaking it in.

I have the LG CX so I can't really help you about the B2. I can tell you that despite how good the X950G was the OLED is better picture wise.

It's scheduled for delivery today, just got the shipping notice. Any calibration settings or tips ? I was looking at RTINGS and AVSforum.

I have a colorimeter and the software to match so that's how I calibrate. But RTING settings aren't bad either. Without a colorimeter I would follow their settings, especially the Basic sdr picture setting. However, make adjustments to what looks good to you depending on how well lit or dark the room is.

DriedMangoes Initial impressions?

The first day I got it I pretty much spent most of the time setting it up and calibrating putting some different inputs on. But now that I am actually just able to sit down and enjoy it, it is blowing my mind the picture quality the LG OLED's are producing. I thought my x950g was amazing. This is even better 😳

I'm playing Lost Legacy on it , my first time going through, and the inky blacks, the pop in the colours, the high frame rates, the VRR the list goes on. I don't think I can go back to LED's tbh lol

It has completely changed the gaming experience for the better in every way. And the PQ is supposed to get better once you have finished breaking the TV in?! Wow I can't wait to play dark moody games like Dead Space remake, RE4 etc on it . I opted for performance mode in Lost Legacy and it's getting me fps in the 90s but it feels so smooth.

Man I remember Val trying to convince people not to buy OLEDs because of burn in... Glad I didn't listen.

I had no idea Lost legacy was a remaster, I thought it was odd to play that first, then I came across a reddit post saying how good the graphics are lol.
Try Forbidden West as well, and yep dark games absolutely shine with OLEDs.

Have you tried any TV/movie content yet?

Just so you're aware, that FPS counter in game mode isn't necessarily indictive of your frame rate, but rather what refresh rate your TV is showing. It's a bit hard to find a good explanation for it, but you'll notice the counter will show 119-120 for games you know only run at 60. But then again if you have VRR active with an unlocked game, that might be your frame rate?

Yeah why some people took his opinions seriously always cracked me up.
