Mini-Review/Backlog Destruction Thread

Max the Curse of Brotherhood is a fun little game. Puzzle platformers aren't really my thing, but it had a good level of challenge and a variety of puzzles to keep me interested for the about 8 hours it took me to beat.

Next up I'm finally going to get caught up on the Gears of War series with Gears 5.

Think Max was the first game I ever played on Xbox one, was a GWG game if I remember correctly.

Still in the backlog. Currently working on:

PS5:
Horizon Forbidden West - Beautiful game with a good story. I wish I had less to do to give it proper attention.

XBX:
Hitman 3- New Freelancer mode is addicting, even if I suck.
HiFi Rush- Nice Palet cleaner and change of pace.
Plague Tale Requiem - Have to take a break from this game every so often because it gets really depressing and sad.

PC:
Tales of Cold steel 4 - I am going to finish this game THIS YEAR.
Midnight Suns- Very fun game from Marvel.

Playing Dead space remake, & Fortnite mostly. Will probably not play many games after and focus on working 3D print project for diablo 4 until hell gate opens on 6.6.2023.

I said i was done with Diablo after 3 and low and behold I've got 4 pre-ordered. I am the worst kind of gamer.

Since my last time posting Ive gone through the Gears 5 campaign. I'm not really into multiplayer anymore but I've played every Gears of War campaign and wanted to get caught up. It was fun, but I didn't think the open world aspects really added anything worthwhile.

However, I did decided to also go through the Hivebusters campaign and I really enjoyed that. A much more classic Gears of War experience.

Now I'm playing The Sinking City. It may be my love for all things Lovecraft bias, but I'm really enjoying this game so far after about 15 hours.

Fished The Sinking City tonight. If you're interested in Lovecraft or Lovecraftian stoies at all, I highly recommend it. The combat/gunplay is annoying but I thoroughly enjoyed it nevertheless.

Next up, Costume Quest 2. Loved the fist one and I'm sure this one will be no different.

Completed the main quest and expansions with my most recent character build in Skyrim: Anniversary Edition. I was thinking about making another build, but chasing down some gear and achievements after knocking out the Dragonborn expansion wore me out on the game for the time being. I'm sure I'll come back eventually, like always, but I need to move on to something else for a while.

On a random side note, I wish I'd turned on auto-HDR on Skyrim: Anniversary Edition ages ago on XSX, it looks fantastic.

Costume Quest 2 somehow managed to top number 1 which was already an awesome game. Had so much fun with it I could barely put it down this weekend and ended up 1000/1000ing it. Playing with the Candy Corn in my party the whole time was pretty funny.

Next up, I've been craving more Kingdom Hearts action while waiting for more info on 4 (or whatever the next title will be) so decided I'd play the only game I haven't experienced, Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory. I'm not really much of a rhythm or music game person, but needed some more KH in my life.

The open world is just a big filler space with nothing much in between actually contents. But its a nice change (many rooms for improvement) from the on rail levels of old.

Finished God of War, mostly mainlined it for about 25 hours. Might get back to it during the long wait for the next game to complete some side stuff, but man, this was an incredible experience. Just hit me right in the feels.

Next up: going to go back and try to finish Days Gone and Control, see if I don’t bounce off this time.

Control is pretty nice. A few bosses are a pain in the S though,

Control is pretty nice.

Because I have more money than sense or time, I'm working on a few things:

PS5:
Horizon Forbidden West - It cannot be stated enough how pretty and overall how good of a game this is. It gets lost in the shuffle of PS5/4 exclusives and that's a shame because it deserves all the recognition it can possibly get.

XBX:
Hitman 3- Beat Freelancer mode multiple times now. About to uninstall but I had a good run. Very enjoyable new mode.
Saints Row - Dumb fun that has me smiling through out. Not nearly as bad as reviews made it out to be IMO.
Plague Tale Requiem - Might drop this and come back to it. Getting really repetitive.
Hifi Rush - Still installed but haven't played in a while. Will get back to it.

PC:
Tales of Cold steel 4 - I am going to finish this game THIS year!!!
Midnight Suns- Still a very fun game but my God its long.
Read Dead Redemption 2 - I'm a glutton for punishment and I'm going to try to see if I can get through the PC version. I stopped playing the Xbox version maybe 2-3 hours in.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake - Working on the Yuffie/Intergrade dlc. I think I'm near the end.

Unrelated note:
Something I've notice while playing some of my backlog. Some studios are REALLY good at their character animations and I appreciate it. Forbidden West and RDR 2 notable have very good charcter animations. Everything looks and moves like it would in real life which adds to the immersion factor. IMO along with chasing 4K visuals and 60 fps, I believe studios should work more on the animations this gen.

2018 GOW? Probably my favorite game of the last few years, I agree everything came together exceptionally well in the end.

Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory was actually really fun, and that's saying something coming from someone who doesn't really do rhythm games. I played through the whole story, cleared every song on beginner and standard, and cleared 50 songs in proud. Definitely a good game, and not just "good for a rhythm game".

Next up I'm on to my next Resident Evil game, Resident Evil: Code Veronica X.

No change for me from previous post. These games are long.

Edit: Scratch that finished FFVII Intergrade DLC. Its really good. The epilogue really cements that this is a
sequel/alternative retelling

.

Since the last time I posted here I've been super busy due to work and buying/moving into a house (first time home buyer). So I haven't had much time for console gaming but I did spend time playing Torchlight 2 on my Switch, which was pretty fun. Maybe not Diablo-level but it wasn't bad and I put together a fun Outlander Shotgun build.

This past week or so I've finally got around to Resident Evil Code Veronica X and beat it tonight. Not my favorite RE, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. Next I'm going to be starting another new series for me, Darksiders. I don't know much about the series but I always had an interest in it.

I finally finished Dishonored 2 after playing it on & off for 3 weeks. With that I end my game pass subscription.

I looked at the library & do not find many games I like to play. I think if you are an indie gamer, its good value, but most of the AAA games were games released ages ago ( & have no interest to play), & first party games new & coming are few & far in between, not to mention if they are even games that will be good or you actually like to play.

Assuming even Starfield is good, at most, I just resub for 10 bucks, then unsub when done.

With Game Pass & xbox out of my gaming ego system, I can go ahead and go to PS ecosystem. I know a few here strongly disagree with me, but XBOX screws up this gen like last gen (slightly less) so I am out.

I am not certain to get PS5, but if I do, it will 99% be PS5 , or even Nintendo over XBOX. Worse thing if MS has some great exclusive AAA games (which let's be real, will few & far between at best), I can play them on my PC.
