85 people control more wealth than 3.5 billion people

And I said all taxes, learn to read. Not even close to 50% of my income goes to ALL taxes I pay.
I think the truth is somewhere in between you guys. The average federal tax burden is about 18%, the average state tax burden is about 9.9%. That's 28 percent right there not including taxes for buying stuff.

Move to Alaska and you're not paying a state sales or income tax. Move to New York City and you're paying 13% of your income and 9% in sales tax without even counting the Feds.

Oh, hold on, wiat a minute, i'm trying to be rational about this. Learn to read you idiots, I bet you've never worked a day in your lives. I worked since I was 6 years old doing taxes for HR block, until I got laid off and learned the hard ways of the world, and I don't know what's worse, the billionaires who subjugate the poor and infirm, or the lazy poor who depend on billionaire handouts!

Rabble rabble rabble!!!!

After all the deductions and what not, the average federal taxes is actually much less (you don't pay that % of your income....you pay it based on your "taxable" income"). I also live in Fl.

But I also used to live in NY, and still after deductions, my taxes, all taxes put together, was less than 30%. This over 50% on your total income for your average american is ludicrous.

And even if there were some parts of america where "some" Americans were paying over 50%...high taxes doesn't make this country any less capitalistic or more communist.

After reading, you guys do not even know who lucky you are. here on the other side of the pond, we pay about 20% taxes for product, service, & I pay about 50% income tax, which is typical to what average joe pay in much of Western Europe, not just the rich.

Thats on top of just about everything cost much more!

Now you know why, unlike Americans, we do not go crazy during holidays buying stuff, and new gadgets like a shiny new console, or ipads doesn't sell as much here. Most people used stuff until their last leg. I am still on Iphone 3GS.

Exactly. Americans don't know how good they have, and yet they still complain like little children.

Wahhhh, wahhhh, I need to pay taxes, therefore, we are communist...wahhh, wahhhh.

Americans get less for their money than a lot of European countries do, we also get less time off and likely lower wages all around. What do we get for the taxes we pay? healthcare? nope, what we get a small amount of money set aside to help us when we retire if we can afford to along with the basics like police, fire dept etc well that and an over sized military that many of us want to cut back on. I can see why someone who's paying a huge percentage of their money in taxes in another part of the world would look at us and think we are cry babies, I probably would if I was in that position too but I do think you have to look at the bigger picture to understand it better.

I do get mad when people here complain about paying don't get me wrong, especially those that are well off. They seem to forget money is a finite thing, a small group of people have a disproportionate amount of it so they of course are going to have to pay more simply because they have more. They are basically the ones that own everything yet they want to pay their workers as little as possible then complain when those people need help to get by.

I have never really had much of an issue with paying taxes.
I mean, if you didn't know you were paying them, would you mind?
If you were quoted your take home from the start and the company had to calculate and pay your taxes for you, would it hurt as much?

When you pay about 50% tax, Its fairly obvious. Anyway, you got a nice letter at end of the year showing how much tax you pay. I can buy a Porsche with the tax I pay in a year, now that I think of it....

How much tax I pay is also on the monthly pay document I got every month.

A reason why Americans get less sometimes and much less vacation time compared to many countries is because it is so competitive.... with itself. There's over 300M people in the US and there's so many that will work for low wages dragging things down. Also lots of people who are unemployed, so taxpayers have to cover them. The US also spends a lot on things like military. The US military spend is disproportionately high in terms of $$$ and % of GDP. So what the US lacks in social services, they make up for it with defence and protection. For other countries, the military spend could be hardly anything. No point putting much to it because the country is too small and would get overtaken anyway. They spend the money on other things.

As for rich people, I stand by my opinion that what people earn is theirs. Especially in countries where the tax rates are progressive so the rich already pay an increasing tax % rate. If someone is a billionaire, so be it.

I'm no rich guy, but the problem with giving sometimes is that nobody wants to get burned with the money being flushed down the toilet. If I'm going to give, I'll donate it to a family member or give some cash for a trust fund for my niece. My biggest donation is giving an ex-coworker $500 before she died so she could buy her kids whatever..... I think she actually bought her son a PS2! I know she didn't make much and she was a single mom, so unless she was a secret millionaire who didn't need it, I think it was $500 well spent.

If I give a charity organization a cheque for $500 or a guy on the street $20, who knows where that money goes to. The charity might be a scam, only $50 of it is used to helping people (while the other $450 goes to "Administration Costs"), and that $20 I gave the guy with the tin can just went to the store to buy cigarettes. If there was some kind of guarantee it will be used for good it would be different. That's why people prefer giving to family and maybe good friends. They know them and trust they'll do something with it. It doesn't mean they can't flush it down the toilet either, but at least you know who it's going to and can use judgement as to whether that person will use it well.
