All of Insomniac's upcoming titles have leaked (Marvel Factory)

The gaming sites not covering this is preservation at its best. They all want to keep a good relationship with Sony. When GTA leaked, it was covered. When Capcom and CDPR had the EXACT same thing happen to them as Insomniac, it was covered. Now its an issue. Because IMO a Sony blacklist is FAR worst and more damaging than anything else in gaming right now.

This should really put to bed that there isn't a bias in gaming media. And at this point calling them gaming journalist is not correct. Outside of maybe Jason schreier, all of them probably should be labeled as gaming pundits or personalities. Journalist is not the correct term at all.

As someone else said, At the end of the day it's not the media's job to protect the secrets of a corporation, it's the corporation's job.
Reporting on it accurately and responsibly is the entirety of the media's job at this point.
I was going to say it's your job as a journalist to report on the facts. For the first time, they have the ability to do so rather than reporting on a cousins' wife who has a friend of a neighbor who heard something in the bathroom of a Denny's.

These aren't rumors, but facts.

the Insomniac hack might be a turning point for how we think about game leaks in the media, dev community, and fan base. We’ve seen similar hacks in the past, most notably with Capcom and the GTA 6 leaks. These were widely covered without the types of editorial decisions and discussions we’re seeing today. Something clearly feels different this time around, and I think it’s because it’s Insomniac. They’re beloved developers that create awesome games, and there’s a very real emotional attachment to that and a desire from many to not harm them.I think that’s understandable from fellow developers and even journalists, we’re all human after all. A hacking feels far more intrusive than someone finding your marketing materials early. We are all learning from the industry discussions and editorial decisions being made here. I hope it’s a useful and lasting dialogue for when this inevitably happens again to another game studio in the future

Besides personal info I am loving all the juicy details of this leak.

Looking at all the leaked data is fascinating for someone on the outside looking in.

  1. Ratchet and Clank hasn't made a profit for Insomniac.
  2. The X-men licensing terms are nuts.
  3. 9VJHnAF.png
  4. I Thought the Sony titles would sell better than what they have on Steam.

They don’t sound very efficient.

Non had issues with the GTA,Capcom and so on leaks though.

Even Grubb who makes a living off this is suddenly not wanting to talk about it.
Personal employee details yes but not even talking about the games or road map?

Grubb is a fake.

Again, none of this energy during the Capcom leak which was the same situation.

But why?

Guess is they don't want to get black listed by Sony. But yeah none of them had issues talking about the Capcom hack which also had personal info.
At the end of the day if they don't want to talk about this they shouldn't talk about anything until it's officially released by the studios.

Well Sony can’t blacklist everyone so if everyone covered it then there shouldn’t be a concern. Of course no personal info.

I call BS though.

Anyway it looks like Sony is like any other company. Wants to be successful and monitors the competition. And we all knew Wolverine is in development.

Wait, I thought there was no media bias for Sony… been told that by the usual pro Sony people here many times.
They don’t want to get blacklisted, even though PlayStation is headquartered in the US they are Japanese and you don’t want to get on the bad side of Japanese corporation… or worse, Disney

Would not have expected this from Kotaku but they by far have the best analysis of the leak.

SOME HIGHLIGHTS:

Insomniac Games quickly established itself as one of the most prolific studios within PlayStation after Sony acquired it for what seems like a bargain at $229 million four years ago. 2020's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, 2021's Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and this year's Spider-Man 2 showed that the studio could keep putting out technically impressive blockbusters without sacrificing quality

Now, various internal documents released online as part of a malicious ransomware hacksuggest just how hard this has been to pull off, with studio leaders juggling teams, timelines, and budgets like Tetris blocks in order to ship games that aren't just excellent but also profitable. They also hint that possible cutbacks within Sony Worldwide Studios may only be adding to the challenge.
A more recent presentation in November points to potentially more drastic cuts. "Slimming down Ratchet and cutting new IP will not account for the reductions Sony is looking for," reads a PowerPoint note attributed to Insomniac head Ted Price. "To remove 50-75 people strategically, our best option is to cut deeply into Wolverine and Spider-Man 3, replacing lower performers with team members from Ratchet and new IP."
Business plans change, and Sony would not confirm if the discussed cuts are still on the table or already completed. But a notes file referencing a November 9 PlayStation off-site meeting reiterates the 50-75 number of cuts. The notes suggest the cuts are being asked of other PlayStation studios as well, including the line "there will be one studio closure." Sony did not respond when asked to clarify.

Again this leak is a fascinating look into how AAA games and studios are run. Worth a read.

Ok, I’ll be that guy and ask…. Would they be as profitable if they were their own original IPs rather licensing out Marvel’s top character(s)?

Funny how these companies never talk about why they generate such large worlds with little meaningful content to fill it.

We could also talk about why make a Spider-Man game but then make the player acquire skills to make the character how we all wish he was from the moment you start.

Why add in fluff like playing as Mary Jane.

These things all waste time & resources, and players don't like them anyway.

IIRC, Some of PS first party developed with PS console in mind , Uncharted was one for example. However it is popular to do so.
I understand that. But aren’t developers sitting at PCs making the games?

Getting bent over at this point

Wow, day one on pc confirmed…

That early play grace period is getting crazy, it’s like two years early.

You know what’s gonna suck worse for insomniac, getting nominated for it at the game awards in 2025 and not winning a single one since they started, especially with GTA coming out that year.

Don’t worry, I’m sure you’ll get to play as Jean grey or cyclops when it’s released

I honestly don't know. There are Pros and Cons. Original IPs don't have the name recognition that established brands have so it could lead to lower sales/missed targets. Whereas original IP might be cheaper to make due to not having any licensing but sell less. Really a roll of the dice to be honest.
