Anyone else conflicted over choosing systems or getting both?

Or brand familiarity?

I'm used to the Xbox system and it's comfortable to me.
I like the controller a lot more. This is a big deal.
I know how to integrate my media from my PC to my Xbox, I know the limitations and how to work around them etc.
Xbox Live will probably be better than PS+, but what would I know I have no interest in PS.

I can't think of one thing that Playstation can do so well that I would consider passing on what's familiar and will please me almost guaranteed.

Even if PS4 does put out games that graphically superior, I'm not sure I care so much about that versus other features because I personally just do not care about the graphical fidelity that much. They'll all look good. I'm not a nitpicker, I just want what's comfortable to me and what reels me in.

If that's how you feel then more power to you. For me it comes down to two things that, IMO, are basically deal breakers.

1) I just like Sony more than Microsoft. Now let me explain! I know these are two faceless evil corporations that care about nothing but the bottom line, it just doesn't feel that way to me.

a) I hate (HATE) how Microsoft unveiled their games consoles. They thought it was in their best interest to tout everything except games. I couldn't stand this and I think it's a clear sign in the direction MS wants things to go.

b) I also hate the fact that Microsoft can do nothing but butcher their 1st and 2nd party developers. Bungie left because they wanted creative freedom. FASA, Ensemble, Bizarre Creations, Digital Anvil and a host of other somewhat promising developers were woefully mismanaged by MS and run into the ground. I mean, what happened to Lionhead? Sony on the other hand seems like the exact opposite. David Jaffe has said countless times that Sony stays out of your hair during development and they support projects like The Last Guardian for what, 6 years now? Sony constantly makes decisions that support game makers. Microsoft constantly mucks things up.

c) With that being said, when Microsoft does, secure a quality IP, it tends to be because they threw money at a 3rd party developer. I don't know. Perhaps I grew up watching too many Disney movies. I just associate buying art late in its development cycle to be villain-esque. I much prefer the route Sony takes in this area.

d) Kinect 2.0 is infuriating to me. I hate everything about it as a gamer. Kinect 1.0 was a disaster from a gaming perspective. Kinect 2.0 is being forced on gamers and charging us an additional $100 dollars. Not only that, but Microsoft thought it was OK to launch a $500 dollar Kinectified XBone AND NOT SUPPORT IT. Where does MS get off? It's like they're saying "Yeah, you have to pay $500 dollars because Kinect. We'll support it when we feel like it. Now give us your money."

2) The consoles themselves. It seems obvious to me that the PS4 is simply the better designed piece of hardware. It's significantly smaller. It doesn't have a power brick like the XBone. It's a little more powerful and oh yea, it's 100 dollars cheaper. It's controller also have more utility than the XBone's (swipe pad + move light).

It's also not like I've loved the chatter I've been hearing about Microsoft and it's next gen console for the past six months. The little rumors and quotes that seem to pop up on a weekly basis haven't been too flattering for MS. I can chalk those up to the typical rumor mill though.

I don't know. Just my two cents.

Cool, I feel the exact same way, except reverse the companies and the products. Can you even fathom that in the literal sense?

Kindah trippy reading your post Smilebit. Maybe I'm just really seeing how much things have changed from the current generation. Maybe next generation isnt a nex gen at all. Maybe it is a new generation though. I rather prefer my entertainment to grow and change with me however. My life has changed significantly from even five years ago, not to mention ten years ago. How I distribute my time is a much bigger factor to me these days with career, wife, clients etc. Just being able to control the shows I watch without commercials saves me valuable time.

Having consoles that save me money is another important factor. I like having multiple functions all in one device. For example, with all we're getting in the X1 (and the Ps4 for that matter) it literally saves hundred, perhaps even thousands of dollars versus buying yet, even more bulky, expensive devices to be able to control my entertainment content the way I want to.

Last generation l was primarily an Xbox gamer. I played all the multiplatform FPS and sport games on Xbox 360. It was definitely my preferred system. I also had a PS3 from launch but with the exception of Killzone and Uncharted, it pretty much collected dust for 8 years.
This time around I'm really hyped about Sonys machine. The new controller, the memory and the extra power have really impressed me. Microsoft not so much. I can forgive the whole always connected DRM fiasco but they just haven't impressed me with anything. I'm worried about how rushed the hardware and software is, I have my doubts about how well Kinect 2 works, and that its underpowered.
Im getting my PS4 on launch day for sure... But the Xbox One I'm far less sure certain about. Should I just wait it out for abit?

If I understand what you're asking correctly, my sincere advice is to wait but not to discount the X1, if you're set on buying the PS4 first, then go for it.

I assume the titles on day 1 are pleasing to you and at by the end of the day that is what you want when buying a gaming console.

The reason I suggest not to discount/disregard the X1 is because of the titles that too will have available and even if the multi-platform titles are preferred on your PS4, then consider the X1 exclusives...

Of course everybody is different and everybody has different tastes and preferences but I've always had a standard with these gaming consoles and that has always been to purchase all of them and pick and choose what you want and do not want (as in games for that system) respectively.

So you like the fact that Microsoft can't handle its internal studios and you like large, underpowered, expensive consoles. Got it.

I'm conflicted. Two things I'm weighing, Is one platform going to have the lion's share of the must have versions of games. This kind of ties in to graphical fidelity but that's far from the only consideration. If the difference is PS2 to Xbox then that's nearly a slam dunk for the xbox of this gen. If the difference is more PS3 to 360 that still has some weight. Second is the controller. For me it breaks down like this, Sony controller suck out loud. So did they finally make a great one? All the reports are pretty good, but they still have the sticks the wrong place. I'd guess they'll again be second rate, it's just wether or not they're in the same league.

In the end it almost certainly won't matter because I have lost control of the mob. They won't wait for a verdict and fully half of them seem to be preordering XBones.

I'm more conflicted on whether I should get either or just upgrade my PC. That said, I will likely buy both in the next few months because I can't help myself.

You know what? Both these companies suck.

If Sony would just release two controller options I would probably pick up a PS4. I can't get past the controller! I want Xbox controller layout!

And Microsoft? They need to invest in their 1st party studios. They really had something going on the original Xbox and then decided to cut all that off because it wasn't making money. Now they just throw money at 3rd parties to make it look like they have exclusive 1st party s***. I hear you there.

Yet I still feel like the XB1 is a way more interesting and next-gen console than the PS4 which is just more of the same. Not sure how to explain that.

I think we all just want better games that aren't necessarily blockbusters in the sales department. We want these companies to fund a bit of art as a way to contribute to the community of gamers.

I'll be getting both....Just not the the ps4 on launch.will be waiting for next year. But both consoles are going to be awesome the quality games they will bring out on both consoles. Will be getting xbox one on lauch cause I prefer xbox live ad the controller.

I was on the fence, for a second, once the whole bf4 fiasco became evident, but at the end of the day, Im choosing x1, here is why-

1. Games. With BF4 and COD, do we really want to play another generic shooter or knack? Not me. I dont care about the indie games. With x1, you got forza 5, dead rising 3, Ryse, KI3, Kinect Rivals preseason, and TitanFall a few months later. Those games are way more exciting to me than anything currently announced on PS4.

2. Experience. X1 seems to have better features and Kinect seems to be a big factor this time around. Being able to snap in apps, blend cable tv in, use voice in everything, smoothly, and even record in game by simply saying "xbox record" makes x1 feel like more than a more powerful 360. Ps4 to me seems like a more powerful ps3. x1 does so much and kinect is adding some very cool features and feedback has been very positive. X1 seems to be giving more diverse experience with more features.

3. Launch day. You get your Ps4, your friends are over. Will Killzone really blow people away? Will it overshadow bF4? Will Killzone blow you away? Will the blurriness of the scaler bother you? What Ps4 game are you really excited to play once the launch games become stale? x1 games like Forza, Ryse, Dead Rising etc will blow people away, including myself. Kinect rivals jetski game looks very fun. Using your voice to navigate everything lag free is super cool. I cant wait to play Killer Intinct.

Titanfall and halo 5 will blow everything else away and graphically I am not worried about what the x1 is capable of. Ryse, Forza 5, KI3, and DR3 are proof of what first party games will be like. Launch cross gen games are always poor on launch.

Hope this helps.

getting both for sure. Note sure though if I am keeping my ps4 pre-order to flip it or not because of some unforeseen circumstances.

More interested in a steam box right now, but depends on the game support, which I think will end up being all games, but still a wait and see. Also have been looking into building a gaming htpc.

Still debating whether or not the my xb1 will be my go to platform or simply for exclusives and whatever games my brothers are purchasing.

really disappointed with the sacrifice of horsepower for entertainment stuff going into this gen, but it is what it is.

Getting both again this gen and I'm excited to say I fall into the huge majority that can't see the difference that the gaffers can.

Getting both, but leaning towards Xbox One as a preferred system due to controller, Xbox Live, launch games, most of my friends are on Xbox and past experience with my Xbox 360.

I don't, nor did I ever claim that they did.

Yes you did, in this post

http://unionvgf.com/index.php?posts/40244/

The specs won't matter for game experiences (graphics will be the same), and all the other areas that matter - MS comes out ahead on. Forward thinking (cloud, snap, apps & games, wifi-direct, etc.), better services, better MP, better controller, probably runs more quietly, has instant on, more seamless UI, sign-in, controller swapping, etc., etc., etc...

I've had both preordered since June 1oth. And the closer we get to launch the more conflicted I grow. None of the launch titles really appeal to me as must haves. I don't see the value in kinect as a gaming controller. I hate paying 100 bucks more for less performance. Their PR has been insulting and sleazier than ever before and it has been a turn off. And I still think that a kinectless sku is coming. I hate Sony's controller and am not the biggest fan of their first party stuff -- save ND. I'm still pissed about TLG. Don't like their handling of MP3's. And I'm not sure PSN can handle all of my online gaming needs. The closer we get to launch the more I'm thinking of dumping the thousand bucks I'd spend on the consoles on a new gfx card and calling it a day.

We're not talking about the same things.

overall, like with this Gen, PS4 and X1 will look the same... That much I did say.

When you asked how I'd know they'd look the same, I thought you were referring to a specific third party title, to which I'd have no idea.

I know that generally the systems will come out with games that look on par visually because I know the specs, and I know that neither is capable of outright eclipsing the other visually, and we're already seeing that's true, even at launch, which is the worst case scenario for visual deltas.

I was going to get both systems. Lately, I've been reconsidered my plan again: I am starting to lean toward Xbox One because of games I like on paper. PS4 is cool but I honestly don't see much games (referring to 1st party games) that interest me. I *probably* will buy PS4 sometime down the road when plenty of good 1st party games come out.

I'm sick to death of both consoles at the moment, not interested or excited about the upcoming launch at all. I'm only buying a PS4 but am I alone in not being as excited as I was say 2 months ago? I wake up in the hope I will see new material and or something that will kick start the buzz again instead I get Internet arguments (Over game(s) resolution..ext), conflicting reports and a lot of contradictions. It's not doing either console the greater good with a few weeks until launch not to mention the consumer.

I thought about just buying one, but I also knew if I waited for the details to make a truly informed decision before pre-ordering then they would likely be sold out. To hedge my bets I pre-ordered both with the intent of cancelling one...but I can't do it. The fact is that both systems at some point will have a must have exclusive, so I might as well just buy both of the damn things now.

I think I'm going mad.

I honestly have no idea how anyone could choose the XBone over the PS4. Like, literally, I can't.

I guess most of it is brand loyalty at this point.

You should step outside your bubble, you must not be very open minded then. I am very neutral but will get the xbox first because I like the interface, the controller and XBL. I also want a ps4 and will eventually get one

I'll be sticking with PS4 to begin with as my first console, mainly because the exclusives that *I* believe it will get is more in line with what I'm looking for. That said, I'll definitely get an X1 eventually for games like Forza and Quantum Break.

Getting both, but leaning towards Xbox One as a preferred system due to controller, Xbox Live, launch games, most of my friends are on Xbox and past experience with my Xbox 360.
This is my exact reasoning. I will have both. The Xbox is the best gaming system with Xbox Live IMO, so that is my go to console. It has the better exclusives, better online service, better features hardware and software wise. However, my PS4 will be turned on for the exclusive games like Uncharted and Killzone and GT. Looking forward to them too.

I just paid off my Xbox one in full yesterday, starting to get really excited! The next 3 weeks are going to drag.

I just got done watching about 12 seconds of the Killer Instinct live stream on IGN and it dawned on me. I find it so unappealing because MS isn't concerned with my demographic. They're going hard for the 15 year olds. Killer Instinct, Dead Rising, Ryse, TitanFall etc... None of these games appeal to me in the slightest but they would have when I was still in middle and high school.
