Anyone else conflicted over choosing systems or getting both?

There you are being narrow minded again. Did you get your authority on gaming certificate from a Cracker Jack box? Self projection what you like as it is the gospel. You have every right to have your opinions but you don't seem to get others view things differently

Without getting to sound like a elitistic PC jerk, I would like to throw in my input.

I am less concerned about the raw power of both the new consoles, because I see them already as compromises. In my mind I feel that I need great gaming rig if I really wanna live that Battlefield experience. Or at least that's how it has been traditionally. With these consoles aiming for high framerates and 64 players, I am not so sure anymore.

But I'll say that it does not deterriate me away from Xbox because of 720p. I have been mainly gaming in 2560x1440 for the last three years, so 1080p ain't really something to brag about either now that we have mobile phones with 2x that resolution.

What concerns me more is community. Is it actually going to be fun hanging out with people online this time or around? Or will it be more kids-screaming infested online lobbies? Because that was the thing for me. That was the thing that put a downer on Xbox and PSN for me, was kids with the headsets.

I get that you can't do anything about it, and that the only reason they are not as much visible/noticeable on PC is because the price of entry is a lot higher.

So for me, both consoles are still very up for graps. Both controllers look fantastic. Sony really seem to have improved the shooter experience. At the same time I am preplexed and curious and the Steam controller. What does Steam OS have to do with the new consoles?
Well, if Steam OS turns out to be working. If it actually will release (unlike Priston!) and be this real thing that delivers on it's haptic feedback promises, I could see myself supporting whatever console that gives me the most unique stuff. not found on Steam.

At the same time, money is tight for me and I really need a portable high class notebook for school, so the idea of getting a new gaming rig is getting small. And when money is tight, it suddenly becomes much more appealing to get a substitute PC. Titanfall will not be fun to run on low. That games begs to be played at high framerates with fast responsive and competitive online and good social structures.

TL;DR

- On the fence.
- Depends on what role Steam OS will play in the future
- If money is too tight to gaming rig upgrades, perhaps going after the most PC-like of the two(the one that gives most replicateble(is this even a word?) experience to my favorite PC games)
- Resolution not important to me. What is important is responsive UI, fewer ads, good online community, less time spend muting and more time making friends and finding clans).
-Visually the most important for me is framerates that don't dip below 30. 720p doesn't make me ill or anything like that!

I have both paid for but I'm starting to wonder if I should use the money from one to get an extended warranty and extra games?

Let me put it another way for you...

The last few movies that I saw recently, that really appealed to me:

Now here is what the premier Xbox One games look like:

I'm OK with this. I'm just past the spot Microsoft is targeting anymore. They're going hard for someone that just isn't me. Really, the only Xbox One game I would be interested in would be Forza 5 for sure, and maybe Project Spark (but I can get that on PC). Sony just seems to bring games that appeal to my senses a little more (Shadow Fall, The Order: 1886, The Witness, Deep Down, Rime, and Octodad).

Throw the quality argument out the window for now. I'm sure the next Halo and Titanfall are going to be well received. It just seems like Sony provides more games for an older audience.

I just got done watching about 12 seconds of the Killer Instinct live stream on IGN and it dawned on me. I find it so unappealing because MS isn't concerned with my demographic. They're going hard for the 15 year olds. Killer Instinct, Dead Rising, Ryse, TitanFall etc... None of these games appeal to me in the slightest but they would have when I was still in middle and high school.

Right, they're doing a dreadful job of appealing to the people who have a persistent hate of the X1 demographic.

Getting both at launch. Have had both pre ordered since day 1. I'm number 1 at my gamestop for X1, and number two for PS4.

I'm not getting any games for X1, doubt I'll even hook it up. The games at launch I want to play are Killzone, BF4, Madden, and NBA2k. All those games are on PS4 and by all early indicators the multi plats are running better on PS4, so that's where I'll be.

I'm happy knowing I'll have my X1 and when games/content comes that I'm interested in, I'll fire it up.

I bought a PS3 with the first slim release, and literally used it only as a Blu-ray player, with the exception of GoW3/Uncharted3/TLoU...and while GoW3 was really fun, and UC3 was alright, there was zero replay value. TLoU I just didn't get into... at all... so I really don't forsee PS4 delivering any game experiences I'll really be interested in... but I'm still getting it for competitive analysis, and I'll buy Killzone.

I'm obviously getting one of the white X1's, and can't wait to dig in to Forza, Ryse, Killer Instinct, Dead Rising, etc... but also really looking forward to instant TV switching. My wife and I often switch between the two, and to be able to do that quickly/easily with voice - huge win for us.

The specs won't matter for game experiences (graphics will be the same), and all the other areas that matter - MS comes out ahead on. Forward thinking (cloud, snap, apps & games, wifi-direct, etc.), better services, better MP, better controller, probably runs more quietly, has instant on, more seamless UI, sign-in, controller swapping, etc., etc., etc...

What concerns me about hooking up my cable box through my X1 is the fact I have 2 totally different TV settings for watching TV and playing games. I don't want to have to switch tv settings every time I go back or forth, so the entire point of this feature and it's "ease" go out the window for me.

So you're looking for a game that thematically is in line with The Place Beyond the Pines and There Will Be Blood?

Um, no?

I'm just illustrating that I'm no longer in the Transformers, Harry Potter, Pacific Rim demographic that Microsoft is targeting with their XBox One.

Those aren't bad movies. They aren't bad games. They're just for kids.

Sony is targeting the same audience. Killzone, Knack, Drive Club, Infamous . . . I guess I'm not sure what you're looking for.

I'm sick to death of both consoles at the moment, not interested or excited about the upcoming launch at all. I'm only buying a PS4 but am I alone in not being as excited as I was say 2 months ago? I wake up in the hope I will see new material and or something that will kick start the buzz again instead I get Internet arguments (Over game(s) resolution..ext), conflicting reports and a lot of contradictions. It's not doing either console the greater good with a few weeks until launch not to mention the consumer.
Yeah all of these stupid arguments is really starting to kill it.

Oh I don't think there's a big difference between the two. If I'm 100% concerned with playing games targeting a mature demographic, I'm going PC all the way. However, there is a difference.

Here's a list of all the Xbox One games that, IMO, aren't going hard for the teen and pre teen demo.

Forza 5, Below, and Quantum Break

Here's a list of all the PS4 games that, IMO, aren't going hard for the teen and pre teen demo.

Killzone: Shadow Fall, The Order: 1886, DriveClub, Deep Down, The Witness, Rime, Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, Shadow of the Beast, Transistor, Planetside 2, Dark Sorcerer

There is a clear difference in what kind of gamer these companies are going for.

Add in the fact that Sony supported the PS3 with more mature games and they have studios like Polyphony Digital, Quantic Dream, Team Ico etc...

Clear difference.

So an ultraviolent game is targeting a teen/pre-teen demographico_O

A teen demographic for sure. I'm also sure there's going to be more than a few 10 - 12 year olds who look at that game and think the violence looks "awesome". I remember wanting to see Die Hard : With a Vengeance so badly when I was 9 years old. Maybe I was unique in that sense though.

Michael Bay's Ryse? The hack and slasher who's main attraction is massive set pieces and ultra violence? You've got to be kidding me.
I have been comparing Ryse to the movie Gladiator in my mind. I don't think that was targeted towards teens/pre-teens. Maybe that's just my thinking though.

I liken Ryse to the recent Transformer movies far more than Ridley Scotts Gladiator. There was some depth and nuance in the storytelling of Gladiator. I don't think the same is going to be said of a Crytek game.

I see your point. I guess I should rephrase it and say I HOPE Ryse is comparable to Gladiator. Like you though, I have some concerns about what the story will truly provide.

I'm a grown ass man and I love transformers and especially pacific rim. Your argument is just like saying all anime = cartoons and is for kids.

You are in the minority. That's OK.

The Transformers movies are considered horrible trash by most adults.

More power to you though. Have fun with Dead Rising 3.

I think DR3 looks boring as hell and I won't touch it with a 10 foot pole. I'm only getting killzone/ryse/KI. I have a hard time believing most adults think big robots blowing s*** up is trash. There is a reason why those movies make so much money and it's not because 12 year olds are going out to buy all the tickets.
