Or other stuff related to the tools and tech to draw, build, sculpt…
starseeker is using blender, but he’s also got access to zbrush and I forget if it’s maya or maxI've been thinking of poking at 3D modeling. Partly to try stuff with VR Chat Avatars or Environments starting with objects. There are some tools like Vroid that can help build on basic avatar models. If I could model something in another program, I might be able to import it into Vroid like a hat or glasses or whatever.

I might be interested in making Environment Worlds or starting with basic assets from scratch. Maybe work up to Avatars from scratch. I think VR Chat is based in Unity 3D so I'm not sure if that's what should be used or if most other modeling formats can be imported into it.
I think some people are using Blender but I hear that's not so user friendly, though it's free.

Yee, auto desk is the adobe equivalent for 3d tools, monopolyI thought he had acceess to Autodesk Maya which is way over my budget. Maybe through his company though.
They bought all the big boys. SO yes.Yee, auto desk is the adobe equivalent for 3d tools, monopoly
AI art is controversial for sure.
Anyway I bought finally a Display tablet on Amazon. Jesus, it's FAR FAR better than pen tablet I used for past decade. SO much easier to get lines correct.

Blender is more than capable enough. I suggest looking up Blender Guru on youtube and also CG cookie for their tutorials.I thought he had acceess to Autodesk Maya which is way over my budget. Maybe through his company though.

It helps if you know some geometry, but yeah, it’s like photo shop, everything has many ways of achieving it. You could learn something and later find a video that makes you go “huh, less steps….” But sometimes you’ll lose a modifying layer.3D is fvcking complicated

starseeker and I think Dark Helmet and or DarkPassenger have worked with 3d software

3D is a very wide field. But if you have question on modeling in general, character or environment, or CAD, 3D painting , texturing , STL conversion, 3D sculpting, software to recommended, how to learn, feel free to ask me in forum or PM.It helps if you know some geometry, but yeah, it’s like photo shop, everything has many ways of achieving it. If I know it was this easy, I will have transitioned a lot sooner.
Before people get excited or astonished, I am transitioning from Maya to Blender.
I put a long list of equalevance tools, goals, options I need as mainly a modeler in Blender, & less than 4 days mostly in evening, I am about 90% done. Only major thing left is UV & texturing. Most topics are super easy to just google or play around in Blender. Obviously there is stil a long way to path of being speedy & competent, & there are more stuff to be learn, but current progress is much faster than I expected.
