Split screen co-op works flawlessly in other games so not sure what their unique issue is.So both XSS and XSX having trouble with split screen coop... like 343 had before.

It's logical that trying to optimize games on different skus especially one with different specs like the XSX and XSS is challenging , even for veteran devs. It's not like they can just decrease the resolution, move the settings from high to low or something. It's a much more complex process as mentioned already by lots of devs. The PS5 only has one sku so I won't be surprised if devs get more optimization on that platform because there's no different specs to deal with. Nothing to do with console wars, just the nature of optimizing in general. The more platforms you need to work with means more prolonged optimization time and resources.

When it is, sure. But there are numerous games (hundreds) that are split screen co-op on Series S and X. Even most recently COD MW2 that my son play together co-op split screen. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Hey, bring it up with the peeps who are actually making the games and saying these things. They probably know better than any of us here. One or two games having trouble with split screen coop? Sure. But when even MS own first party like 343 with its unlimited access to MS's resources can't do it, you know there's more to the story than just a couple of amateur devs. Just saying.
I think you hit it on the head , they don't want to release it with disparity between the S and X because of the potential backlash. That's why they are trying to make it work with more dev time in the oven.

I'm sure the devs are not just saying it for the hell of it... just not sure where the kink is right now. Maybe they will get it fixed who knows.
Nor am I. But this PS4 looking game getting up on splitscreen has nothing to do with series S and is down to the low ability of the devs or a poor engine.
I mean, why didn't Gotham Knights have 60FPS on PS5/XSX? lol. Using your logic here that makes PS5 AND XSX potatoes.
That was another game that was strangely missing 60fps considering it's not quite a looker.
Halo Infinite / 343 is not a low ability dev, arguable engine but they had difficulties to the point they gave up on it lol. That's not random and they are a MS first party.
And Halo ran on the X1 natively did it not ?
