Battlefield 4 running on X1 ... and PS4

That's single player, but if you notice the ps4 outperforms the X1 most of the time, but oddly the X1 outperform ps4 too in some scenes and by alot. The one thing I noticed more than anything is during close up shots, the washed out look on ps4 is really evident, more than any other negative on either console.
i wouldn't use DF's comparison video anymore.

You can see in te IGN vid the ps4 wins in mp, but for some reason I didn't expect it to be this close on any level, sure the resolution is a big deal, but not when one looks washed out, that defeats the purpose.

Correct, all of the footage is from the BF4 event held by DICE. PC version was running on two 7970s on ultra settings (this includes AA and AF).

Is it possible that these demo's don't have final textures though, maybe Xbox just has a newer set?

Seems weird, but I was watching a PS4 multiplayer clip of someone piloting a vehicle and the texture on the interior console looked like absolute ass. I don't mean that as a knock against the PS4, this was clearly a non-final texture covering the inside of the vehicle that looked about as clear as something from a PS1 game.

So maybe the textures aren't final.

I honestly didn't expect there to be night and day difference and there isn't for the most part but I do think the PS4 version is the better looking of the two, that's especially true in MP where the difference is pretty big relatively speaking. I also think the people going crazy over launch games doing all of the talking as far as which one is going to have the "best looking games" are a bit misguided. I don't know how many people worked on this game but it's coming out on what like 5 platforms? and it's a launch title for two new pieces of hardware, so I'm pretty sure both the X1 and PS4 could have better looking versions of the game than they currently do had DICE had more time to work on them. Either way when I see that PS4 MP footage vs what I was used to playing on the 360 with BF3 I'm really happy with it and I'm very much looking forward to playing this game.

Not to ignore what you said but I have to say out of the maps I've seen so far I think that one looks like it's going to be a lot of fun. Honestly so far most of the maps I've seen look to be better than what they were in BF3.

Both PS4 and XBO are ports from the PC version, so it's not like PC version would be missing textures that would magically be in place for the XBO. The sharper appearance in textures is just due to the sharpening filter being used.

Here's a quick example I whipped up. Same textures for both images, but different clarity. Both scaled to 2560x1600 from 1600x900

I don't need him to tell me what it looks like...does it really matter cause apparently I can adjust my TV anyway I want to make it look as good...so who cares.

"As good"...no, you can't.
But you can go ahead and crank up the contrast and sharpness on your TV to replicate the look of the XboxOne Digital Foundry footage, if that appeals to you.

or make it look like the ign video were it looks the same anyway...but there is pop in on the ps4 version at 00:42...the rocks but who cares.

But this video will help me out to get that contrast and sharpness just right....i'll watch it in snap mode while i'm playing the game.

doesn't sharpness add jaggies...apparently it adds textures too.

That's not just a TV setting difference.

The X1 version looks sharper, and it's more noticeable than the resolution. I've shown the video footage to several lay folk, and they all say the same thing... They look the same, or the X1 looks better. Anecdotal, sure, but clearly the X1 version looks sharper.

Nope it's fake!

Xbox one bf4 can't look like that.

There is no spoon.

Yeah, it's hysterical... The X1 version is more appealing and looks visibly sharper (which is more noticeable than the resolution advantage on PS4).

I don't care if it is just a filter, it looks better.

Are you freaking kiding me? You can't just add detail that doesn't exist! Re-dam-diculous!

Edit: OK I admit Ketto proved me wrong to a point. For that, I apologize. Still, I just don't see how the pic with the bald headed guy could EVER regain lost details like that. NEVER.

That definately may be the case... hence the "pre sharpen then scaled". What MR SCHULTZ is suggesting of it looking anything like that effect post-output simply cannot be done. You can't add detail back after it has been degraded. (By the display) At least not in any appealing way I have ever seen.

Edit: ok, some detail can be enhanced in post.

You all need to look in a god damned mirror and get your f***ing lives in order. Jesus f***ing Christ.

I looked in the mirror.

My glasses are in the other room so graphics looked lame, could've used some better AF. Thats some bs.

One thing about this entire resolution thing is the elephant in the room that NO ONE seems to want to address, despite just weeks/months ago EVERYONE was talking about it. There IS a 50% resolution difference the two platforms, so....

Either the developers at DICE are struggled with XBO's tools and/or eSRAM.
or
PS4 is more powerful.

Because months ago, the argument was eSRAM giving developers trouble is a load of FUD since they've been using the same memory setup for 8 years now (technically not 1:1 the same at all but I digress), and if anything XBO would have an advantage because it has more bandwidth and low latency eSRAM/DDR3.

Alternatively, PS4 can't even use all those CUs for rendering so in reality it's 12CU vs 14CU and MS states that the overclock is better than adding 2 extra CUs.

Well I can't speak for displays (I don't use sharpen personally), but apply sharpening after scaling can produce the a very similar end effect (you could argue it's better that way). Another example, scaled from 1600x900 to 2560x1600, and the other is scaled the same then sharpened. I should add in the natively rendered at 2560x1600 image, I might edit that in.

Yea PS4 is definitely the more powerful console at this point. 720p vs 900p is a big difference and that's just 1 game. I actually didn't expect the difference to be that big. =/

Xbox one looks about the same.

Saw the frame-rate test video, was a big fps drop at around 0:40 for both (tho still around or close to 40), but other then that seems very steady (for most part keeps around 60 fps), nice.

I would like to state that the Spookie dude also said he played Titanfall and that it was overrated.
Isn't it a bit overrated though? I think it is. Seems like the game Microsoft is just trying to hype because they dumped a ton of cash into it. The graphics are pretty bad in Titanfall from what I've seen. The videos I watch the buildings look like current Call of Duty engine buildings, really bland. It's fine if people disagree, just my opinion.

This is why I think there is no excuse why Titanfall shouldn't be 1080p
