The dev kit issue was something more credible than a rumor and was confirmed by several journalists, so I expect that this is a launch issue only. Now the problem is if it can be solved in 5 months with Titanfall.
Well sharpening aside, it still looks like even with the res difference, the XOne has clearer and possibly better textures? The game does not (as a whole) appear 50% better on PS4 to me at all. Not sure if this would be chalked up to diminishing returns or what. I mean, that vs pic of that guy's bald head! With an extra 50% of pixels, why so murky on PS4? Maybe better texture ala eSRAM?One thing about this entire resolution thing is the elephant in the room that NO ONE seems to want to address, despite just weeks/months ago EVERYONE was talking about it. There IS a 50% resolution difference the two platforms, so....
Either the developers at DICE are struggled with XBO's tools and/or eSRAM.
or
PS4 is more powerful.
Because months ago, the argument was eSRAM giving developers trouble is a load of FUD since they've been using the same memory setup for 8 years now (technically not 1:1 the same at all but I digress), and if anything XBO would have an advantage because it has more bandwidth and low latency eSRAM/DDR3.
Alternatively, PS4 can't even use all those CUs for rendering so in reality it's 12CU vs 14CU and MS states that the overclock is better than adding 2 extra CUs.
Well I can't speak for displays (I don't use sharpen personally), but apply sharpening after scaling can produce the a very similar end effect (you could argue it's better that way). Another example, scaled from 1600x900 to 2560x1600, and the other is scaled the same then sharpened. I should add in the natively rendered at 2560x1600 image, I might edit that in.
Just do what MR SCHULTZ said, but in reverse. Turn the sharpness on your TV all the way down. It's basically the same thing as getting the PS4 version. I have a projector, so if I see jaggies I'll just adjust the focus to blur the image. Problem solved.i really hope that sharpening isnt hard-coded... and is just from the recording device or devkits only, cause that extra sharpening adds alot of those jaggies and i hate an oversharpened image
but if full game is like how i expect (alot softer) then the graphics difference will be minimal.
This is why I think there is no excuse why Titanfall shouldn't be 1080p

But the differences we saw don't just stop at resolution. Both versions are treated to post-processing anti-aliasing too, seemingly equivalent to the refined, high setting on PC. However, this doesn't tell the whole story. As you may notice in our screengrabs, the actual results on PS4 lack the corresponding level of crystal clarity we'd expect of such a significant resolution boost. This should surely be a home run for Sony's console, but what is likely to be a software-based upscale to 1080p delivers less-than-stellar returns, and for better or worse leaves the Xbox One with an often crisper looking, albeit much more aliased image.
What is curious is the level of "pop" given to the Xbox One's textures, where - bizarrely - artwork often seems to be more detailed than on PlayStation 4. In high contrast scenes, we sometimes see a kind of halo effect around some detail, which may suggest some kind of artificial detail-boosting post-process.

Whether this is part of Microsoft's new upscaling tech remains to be seen, but we were reminded of the Medal of Honor effect seen in the Darbee Darblet review. However, what is added to texture detail also seems to be applied to XO's most ugly element - its highly noticeable sub-pixel break-up.
All in all, we can only give a preliminary outline of how Battlefield 4 will run on next-gen consoles, but there's plenty here that should remain the case for the final release in November. Perhaps the biggest takeaway is that, in this near-finalised state, the PS4 offers a superior experience on several fronts. The resolution is higher at 1600x900, as compared to the tried and tested 1280x720 on Xbox One, suffering as it does for more visible aliasing artefacts. Visually, the PS4 has a marked advantage with ambient occlusion effects too, which simply isn't matched on Microsoft's platform with the build we played.
Good to hear.Looks like there's fixes that haven't made it to the final build yet? https://twitter.com/repi/status/395138203075633152
I've watched JackFrags X1 single player and his PS4 Mp, there's no way in hell that PS4MP>X1SP
What's AO?Looks like there's fixes that haven't made it to the final build yet? https://twitter.com/repi/status/395138203075633152
Insider: I am really disappointed with the eurogamer comparison videos ... they fail to point out that the x1 build is heavily unoptimized. The build is 10 weeks old lacks kinect and multi player elements. And the biggest fail of all is the 1.8gb patch that will have to be download at launch. The game is shipping with 1080p 60fps v-sync.
I think eurogamer will change this semi review come final hardware and code..
What a sh*storm! Apparently not everyone is playing the finalized version? Kevin Dent is still swearing he was directly told native 1080p (scroll down a bit for the tweets): https://twitter.com/TheKevinDent
And the 'official' Insider:
Flynn can you possibly comment on any of this, either way??
1080p?? that sounds BS

why the f*** would they allow the footage to go out then (X1 MP looks awful).I know, but....
Dr Dentenstein @TheKevinDent 10h
Battlefield is running at 1080P on X1 and looks awesome.
Dr Dentenstein @TheKevinDent 8h
@Talaviir dev told me native
Lewd Proctologist @LewieP 2h
- @TheKevinDent @jonprevans so you're maintaining that BF4 runs at native 1080p on the Xbox One?
- Dr Dentenstein @TheKevinDent 2h
@LewieP @jonprevans I am maintaining that I asked the team member presenting and they said "yes". Did ya want to stand up and show "NO"?
MP wasnt available at the event.. the IGN footage must have been from a old build.. plus that map looked terrible on PS4 aswellwhy the f*** would they allow the footage to go out then (X1 MP looks awful).
I am guessing this is why the X1 review is held back so it's optimized........damage is done now though surely?
It was in the thread that got closed. the one specifically about the DF comparison seems like an even split of ppl is utter disbelief that the X1 version looks better to their eye and ppl clinging to the metrics as if that's what matters.
