No checkpoints isn't big boy pants it's bad game design and that's why that kind of thing died a lot time ago, the current souls games don't do that. The game plays fine and looks amazing I just wish I didn't have to constantly repeat the same freaking area over and over and over again that's not fun.

The bonfires are checkpoints. All the Souls games since this have that mechanic. Usually in these games you can open short cuts so that when you do die getting back to where you were doesn’t take long. Plus you’ll eventually know every enemy position and attack style through repeated attempts.

software crashes on a game this punishing though.... now that’s proper frustration right there.

Got my copies today. Played it for an hour or so and must have died close to 10 times lol. Going to have to figure out what class to play, thinking of restarting and going royal. The game looks so good, lighting is unreal.

I'm liking it more now, thankfully the game was saved where it crashed the other day, must be because it connects to servers but the first "boss" wasn't too bad, I'm sure it gets much worse as it goes though. I'm not talking about the first one in the introductory level that guy killed me lol but the first one you face when you enter the castle area.

-impressed by the beauty and fluidity
-it's a perfect demonstration of what the hardware can deliver
-the core of the game is so good!
-Demon's Souls Remake may go down in history as one of the finest launch title in history
-this feels like an high end game, like it could have been released late in the the generation

Sony bringing it right from launch, tremendous start with Spiderman and DS remake.
 
So I made a new character and have a good 6-7 hours run in on the Royal class. So far it's been better on this class because I can attack from afar lol. Still died a lot though because of how punishing the game is to mistakes. I've only beaten 1-1, 2-1 and now at 3-1 just before the boss. Contemplating going back to Nexus and using all my souls in case I die during boss fight... would be such a bummer if I lost all those souls after going through the level. Ugh , is it generally recommended to use your souls as quickly as possible ? I know some boss souls can be used for special weapons or skills.

That's the class I used on PS3.

I am having more fun with that one too, in RPG's I always pick the mage and this one just seems more fun to me.

Being able to stay further away from enemies with the spear / pike was nice too. I recall cheesing some bosses / tough enemies with the magic shot.

I just beat the 2-2 boss tonight. Man, the game gets better and better. I love how there are souls just before the boss fight where we can team up to fight the boss together. Helps so much haha.

I don't know if it's a full moon tonight or what, I got invaded like 2-3 times when I was trying to rescue saint urbain in that pit. Got killed once and I killed one of the others 😂

I just had what I'm guessing is someone else invade my game and kill me, for some reason I didn't realize this could happen so I went and set it to needs a password right after that. I was farming and they destroyed all of my armor and it was going to cost tens of thousands of souls to fix the set up I had, pissed me OFF lol.

From what I know, it can happen when you are in human form. Oh I didn't know you could set a password so people couldn't invade lol. But doesn't this also block people from helping you? I've been playing in souls form throughout the levels and then going back to human form just before the boss just to avoid all that headache lol. Was lucky to find a helper in a few of the last levels who helped me go through and beat the bosses. I'm at 4-2 now and keep dying to those damn reapers.

the password does not stop people invading. It’s for linking up in coop with a friend.

I'm still very early in the game and haven't had any help yet lol, I'm trying to build up my character a bit. I didn't know that could happen at all, was happy to have my human form and then some person colored in red came in and I couldn't do s*** to them lol, the broke my armor in like 15 seconds. The password thing may not even work for that, if we can't stop people from coming in though that is a huge annoyance because the game is hard enough without that. I know purists will say "oh it's perfect how it is" well that's fine for them but I don't like that lol.

Yeah the invaders are annoying. Nothing we can really do except try to go through levels in souls mode until near boss then switch I guess .
 
Finally beat 4-2. Damn, that was a hard level to beat as a mage because of all the tight corridors and pathways. The boss was easier than going through the whole level haha. I had a helper for the boss but he died pretty early on so I had to take most of the boss down myself.

Just play offline. You can't do co op but you won't be invaded.
