Damn the moon mission was short but fun! This is going to be one of the best FPS's ever made! Bungie killed it!

Moon mission was nice. Glad they opened that up to us. Too short, but you just got to take what you get when it's a beta.

I'm done playing it now as well. Looking forward to the 9th though. Kind of hoping if they don't let us keep our levels they at least let us keep the gear we've collected and we'll just have to level up to use it.

Hmmm. I only recently bought Borderlands 2, to get ready for the pre-sequel, so I've been playing a lot of that.

I Dow loaded the beta and played for a few hours and... I think I'll stick with borderlands.

I don't know if it's because I'm playing on 360, or because I have become accustomed to Borderlands, but I just feel really... Disappointed? I don't know...

It's only a beta I guess.

That's an impressive app. Here's my level 8 Hunter:

I think it does have a ways to go before it's on the same level as Borderlands, but this is a demo, and Borderlands does have 2 games already. With that said, I like the setting of Destiny more. Gives off a Mass Effect vibe to me.

I played it. I love the minute-to-minute action. The balance between melee, close-range weaponry and long-range weaponry is fantastic in a way that makes Halo look clumsy. I actually kept forgetting to look down the sights with the left trigger for whatever strange reason.

Thing is, missions aren't terribly exciting. Borderlands has an elegant system where you grab a bunch of quests and do them all in the same zone, then move on. Destiny doles them out one by one and you're having to backtrack more often than you should ever possibly be required to. I know, I know, it's different parts of the same area, but it's not a great experience to be in that complex yet again fighting another set of baddies to complete an objective.

Didn't do the moon thing. PVP is not great, especially coming off Titanfall.

Ugh! They had a moon mission?? I missed it! We were in a car driving to our vacation destination!! Oh well, at least the whole beta didn't happen while we were on vacation! I will just have to wait and enjoy the moon missions when the game comes out!!

Is the moon mission available to everyone? Or just people who had codes? I just tried to access it (I never had a code) and it wouldn't let me.

It feels like the hybrid FPS/rpg that Mass Effect always wanted to be. The problem I had is that it feels derivative at this point. I mean the art reminds me of mass effect. RPG system feels like borderlands. Everything else is a re-skinned Halo. When I had to take down the first Elite with a shield I was a little disappointed. (Very Minor spoiler) .... When I saw the "Flood" it was just a little too much for me. Basically all my Halo tactics work once I correlated the enemy to their Halo counter part.

Right now it's one of those things where the game is fine, but compared to the inspiration material it just is lacking so far. Borderlands just has that weird personality that makes getting upgraded silly guns so much fun. Mass Effect was just such a beautifully crafted setting with so much personality and back story. Halo is just so iconic. I know betas are basically to test for bugs and network issues. those seemed fine. The biggest issue I had was I felt i already played the game. It will definitely need to create an identity for itself.

I did not like the alpha one bit, i am enjoying this beta more and more, especially in co-op..no wait...only in co-op really, cause on your own it really aint too special at all. But that's what i think of the beta in general too, it really is not anything amazing, but if i check out websites and forums i see nothing but praise, as if this game is just a masterpiece. It's fun in co-op, communicating with friends and you know..finishing the (repetitive) missions, but i have to wonder how long the fun will last. Cause again..those missions are repetitive as hell. All these missions end the exact same way, the little robot Ghost has to activate something and you have to fight off waves of enemies.

The environments themselves so far...Earth and the Moon....it's rather..static, a bit empty, a bit boring. There is very little reason to go exploring too. I dont know much about MMO, but if replaying the exact same missions is a big part of MMO, i for one will not be doing that much. I will go from one mission to another new mission. I am still trying to find out what about this game makes people go OMFG.....

I agree. Its fun, but I'm just not sure how long it will last. Its already feeling repetitive after exploring the cosmoshere( Russia), or whatever its called. The little green beacons aren't giving me much hope. Even when the mission is different, it still boils down to a couple types.

The constant and frequent enemy spawning destroys my suspension of disbelief too- always reminding me I'm playing a game. Im not sure um going to pick it up

Going by the beta, I can tell Im going to like Destiny. Ive gotten probably close to 30 hours out of the beta alone. Once I upped the control sensitivity, the gameplay became more fluid. Ive even gotten to where I enjoy the Crucible. I like the space setting too. Looking at the various vendors wares, and the Grimoire, it will take awhile to see all of Destiny, at least Im hoping so. The amount of variations that your characters appearance can be is incredibly deep, even in the beta. That's something Borderlands lacks. And some of the armor looks freaking awesome too imo.

Gotta agree with these comments everywhere its amazing impressions. It's like a poor mans Horde with the Ghost fixing something while u fend them off. Gears invented horde for me and I'm not sure why the praise . Its solid but the shooting seems slightly off to me and no real satisfaction once you ve killed an enemy.

Played the Alpha on the Ps4 and Beta on my One its not terrible but it's still point to point gameplay. It's not really open world for me . Bigger corridors making it feel bigger than it is. Each mission is no Spawn once in an area then wave after wave of enemies. The PVP is not the best mode. Maybe free for all or TDM might be better to show this off but the small Player count doesn't work for me. It seems Bungie is trying to get away from Halo but the vehicles drive pretty similar and the game feels like a poor mans Halo for me . If your good at something they should stick to it. Think they ve tried to be to clever making it MMO based. But In Essence its a point to point FPS. With a bit more customisation. This is my opinion and I understand why a lot of people are loving it just not getting me how I thought it would.

The worst part of the "horde mode" events is that while the areas are huge, the actual combat area is small. There is almost no time to prepare or space to manage the enemies- they just kind of dump them on you and they all stay within a pretty tight radius. No real lead up to speak of.

What's worse is when they spawn right next to you. Nothing lime taking on a Devil tank and the space you just cleared out is suddenly filled with baddies shooting you in the back.

I think this open world with tight engagement spaces with no feeling of accomplishing forward progress is not a good idea. Seriously, after a very short bit, they just reappear.

In a normal MMO wouldn't you be able to interact with the other players you bump into???

I cannot for the life of me understand why Bungie put that dancing thing in on the D-Pad it is pointless lifts you out of the 'lore' and just turns the 'Tower' into the most gratuitous life sucking and pointless experiences I have yet seen in a game.

I logged into the Moon mission last night, whilst I enjoyed that, I still put the whole Beta experience several notches behind the Halo story.

When I play SP I want to play co-op or on my own.

I don't want to see a 'random' dancing in front of me.

I especially don't want to see re-spawning enemy's just cause I decided to re-visit an area I was in 10 mins earlier.

Don't get me started on the horrendous MP element. Matchmaking, what matchmaking!!!!!!

I cancelled my 'Ghost' pre order yesterday at GAME, no way am I dropping £150 notes on this.

Defiance should also be considered here, the game mechanics are almost the same......Defiance has a better back story than Destiny.

Just finished playing the 6th mission on the Moon. Pretty fun, the more I play the more I like the graphics and the art style. The lunar level is a real looker, I love the abandoned/derelict space ports/capsules/modules and all the assorted crap laying around. One thing I will say bout Bungie, and this goes back to Halo 2, they always use some nice high quality textures in their environments. From far away to right up in your grill stuff looks real nice.
the moon!??!? wtf i though that was locked out

2 things

1. All mmo have dancing and the enemy always spawns, that's the nature of the genre.

2. I have said as well about defiance. They need to drop that next gen game so people can see its better then it looks. X360 is a joke compare to PC.

By all n all I really like the game a lot.

I'd have preferred you linked to the reddit page, I hate seeing gaf people exist.

Glad they opened the beta to anyone with gold. I was not going to pick this up until later if at all because of the mixed impressions. Will definitely be buying it, well done Bungie!

I've really enjoyed the beta, I've put more time into this than I have some games I've paid £50 for.
I really enjoyed the co op missions and although I suck at pvp I know once I put the time in I'll reap the rewards.
Saying that, although I think it will sell well initially, judging from some of my friends reactions I don't see it selling CoD, BF numbers for a multiplat game.

This one guy unrelentlessly flirted with me via messages because my avatar is a female. I finally understand women's paranoia.

The game's amaze balls. Tbe matchmaking idea is neat but it feels unbalanced as hell.

Yeah, Bungie unlocked the 6th mission last night from 2-5pm PST last night. I don't know if you could play Lunar mission for longer than that that time frame, but it was unlocked to start the mission.

Anyone have an extra code for the beta? Home for a few days and wanted to check it out.

I had some guy chasing me all over the place at the tower almost as soon as I appeared and I kept trying to get away from him as I was going around to the different vendors. The only explanation is my character is a female (as am I but he had no way of knowing that that quickly, didn't have time to check out my gamertag/profile). I kept running off and he'd try and position himself right in front of me and right before I left he sent me a game request. Now there were about 40 other "people" running around the tower when I arrived so plenty of people he could have requested a co-op mission with. Found it very creepy!

Bungie is using the same gameplay formula in Destiny that they used in Halo. Jump, grenade, melee, special power, and weapon fire. I don't know how the full game will be in the Crucible, but it seems like you instantly die the second you make contact. At least in Halo you are usually able to return fire before you die.
