Ok, so this is my biggest gripe with the game. Once you reach level 20 you finally have a chance to get some legendary and exotic weapons and armour but the current system to get it just sucks ass.

First the Vanguard vendor: you need to be rank 2 to get armour and rank 3 to get weapons. Patrols and bounties are the only way to get your rank up and you are limited to 6 bounties a day. With the rep for patrols being very low for the time you spend on them, this seems like a very artificial way to keep people grinding for weapons.

Then we have the vanguard marks. You can either earn these or earn rank, but not really both at the same time. Strikes do add some rep rank but it's so small it's laughable. Another silly artificial game extender here. Weapons are around the 120 price and armor is around the 70 price. The most game will allow you to earn in one week is 100 marks. So not even enough for one weapon a week even if you can play enough to get 100 marks? Seriously Bungie? What kind of cheap design is this?

Second, the random drops. This system is just the f***ing worst. Blue drops are rare, legendary drops are nearly non existent. When they do drop, you should be guaranteed a blue or greater from blue but especially a legendary from a legendary drop. But no, you only get a chance of getting a blue piece from a blue drop and the same from a legendary when you bring them to the cryptarch. This is very frustrating. When you spend hours playing within the limitations of my first point, finally get a legendary drop, bring it to the vendor, and be given a standard uncommon weapon for a level 16 character it's nearly a rage quitting moment. I cannot for the life of me understand this mechanic. If Bungie want people to play for loot, then need to actually award people with loot! On top of all this, you also have a high chance of getting loot for a different character, and in the case of Srtike missions, being awarded no loot at all (which happened to me 3 times)!

The whole thing is half assed in design and will actually do more to push me away from continued play than suck me in for more.

Get your s*** together and sort this out please, Bungie.

I agree the loot system is lacking. Do what I did. Go to one of the factions (dead orbit, future war cult, New monarchy) look at their legendary gear. Choose which faction has the gear you would like the best. Spend 2500 glimmer and buy the item (the cosmectic one) that allows all your reputation (both crucible and vanguard) to go to that faction. Then play lots of multiplayer to get your crucible marks. Then just buy a legendary.

I'm not interested in Cruible at all. Im trying to get my regular vanguard rank increased so I can buy stuff from them, but even that's restricted (see my first point).

Sounds like the game will end at 20 for me then. :( Loot system is crap and limiting what you can do weekly to that extent is ignorant.

It's shocking. Legendary packages have crappy low level stuff and even that's for a different character type.

I heard a couple of friends complaining about it but I thought they we exaggerating how bad it was. Turns out they were not. After this week I won't be wasting time on this game until it's fixed.

The engrams really piss me off. While grinding in the strike playlist, a legendary engram dropped. I was PUMPED! I go to the decoder guy, and it comes out as a green (I think it was a green. Might have been a crappy blue. I don't remember). Talk about a bait and switch. I was sooooo mad

Yep. Exactly the same thing happened to me last night as well. Fourth time I'm gotten a legendary package that has not been a legendary item.

Doing Patrol to get Reputation is the slowest, and most boring way to level up. Do the Strike Playlist. Im already Vanguard level 3. I simply do bounties, and run the level appropriate Strikes. All of my gear, with one exception, is Legendary and Exotic.

I read, on the Bungie forums(?), that you really need to get your crypto level up to get rare+ items from your rare+ engrams. If so, is having the crypto decode and buying engrams from him to decode the only way raise your lvl? The poster said he is lvl 11 crypto and gets nothing less than what the engram is.

That's even worse. Its another silly artificial game extender. 30 hours of play and I have him at level 4. He still gives me rubbish. The whole system is terrible. A mentally challenged arrdvark could design a better loot system.

Tell me about it. That's my biggest gripe with the game too, loot system is way fuq'd. I'm only halfway through lvl 17 with my character and the loot grind is pretty tedious...

I got super lucky and got the legendary shot gun "The Comedian". It is pretty f***ing gun, but takes for ever to level up.

I had my efforts set on one of the Legendary Titan Marks the Speaker had. Finally got 25 Motes of Light, then returned to the Speaker only to find out the stock had been refreshed and the Titan Mark I wanted was gone.

The game just came out. The game has artificial extenders on purpose.

Obviously its on purpose. Its just badly designed and thought out. Lots of threads on reddit and their own forums about it so it would be a general consensus.

It sucks, but it is fairly standard for games like this. Diablo 3 took forever to fix the loot system, and even worse they wanted you to pay real money to get good items. Try a new character or just play something else for awhile. They will improve things over time with patches and DLC.

I'll play it a little because I do actually enjoy the game play but I will be mainly playing Fifa from next week ,at least until this improves.

But that's just coming from other gamers that think they're game designers.

I don't know, in my opinion, I think gamers today are too much into instant gratification and want to rush everything. Hell, I'm still only lvl 4. Granted, I'm a grown ass man with a wife, children and a job, but still.
Even D3 has fallen into this "instant gratification" hole. Everyone now loves D3, because of how plentiful the loot is......I think that's going to ruin the game's longevity. Diablo games used to be games that people played for yearssssssssss, just grinding for good loot. D3's updates came with a bang, but the game will be dead way too early.

Like older Diablos, these kind of games are meant to give you crappy loot. It's the incentive to keep grinding and pushing yourself. It's the carrot that's dangling in front of you. And admittedly, it's not for everyone.

Get back to me when you reach level 20 and see what you think of it. I had exactly the same opinion on it until I started into the end game. Its not dangling a carrot at all. That's what diablo does and I have no problem with that. This is a bait and switch. Gives you your first legendary package after 30 hours (so not instant gratification either), only to then kick you in the nuts with a green or blue weapon or armour piece which is worth less than what you have. Its extremely frustrating.

I understand your point, but even in Diablo, I get rares that are crappier than my current gear.
Just saying, the games been out only a week. Like others have said, give it time. Hell, I'm enjoying the game just for what it is, and not even about loot.

I'll give it time alright. As I said, I do enjoy playing it but right now I'm stuck advancing. I can't advance until I get better armour, and I can't get better armour because there is no properly thought out loot system. Eventually I'll be able to use the vanguard vendor to get around this problem but I definitely won't be starting a new character while the game stays as is.

My problem is my son ..on PS4 has looted 3 legendary engrams and all 3 have given legendary and relic items. last night I picked up 16....not kidding 16 legendary engrams and NONE of them gave better than a blue.....and how do I see level 28s in full epics with one legendary armor item and 2 legendary weapons, I've seen at least 10 people like that.....HOW ???????

Maybe Sony has a timed exclusive on legendary loot?

...yes, I'm joking. ;-)

They're not. ;)

That's what the Cryptarch is doing with all the Legendary Engrams you give him; he takes the good loot and gives it to the PS4 players.
