Destiny loot system

Does it not matter what level enemies you kill when farming? (I'm guessing not, as I see lots of level 20+ in the low level patrol areas)

They can spend hours doing that and not land anything particularly good. The one thing that farming benefits most directly is raising your cryptarch skill level by turning in the engrams you get from doing it.

My brother got a blue engram that yielded and legendary chest piece from farming that spot in the video. He was so excited until he looked at it and it was for a Warlock and he is a Titan.

Lol.

That's fairly typical it would seem.

He was going to give it to me for my Warlock until we realized you can't trade things. For being a Social game they are missing some basic features.

Yeah my first three legendary items were for different classes, two for the Hunter and one for the Titan. Since then though, I've landed a Warlock's legendary helm, a legendary class item , a legendary sniper (which I don't use), and finally an exotic helm last night.

I'm genuinely happy for you.....

..... Bastard....

I will say this, do what you can to drive up your cryptarch's level. The cryptarch gives you a "package" that contains several engrams every time you go up a cryptarch level. This is where I have gotten some of the best gear.

Oh, I'm used to it. I've had multiple Strikes reward me with zero loot drops :( I mean, just give me something, even if its a better uncommon or crappier rare. I just put all that ordinance and at least half an hour into the Strike for zilch. Especially the first one that I had ever done...

I think this all speaks to what the main complaints are with the game. Variety. I know it's hard with open world games to bring new experiences at a measured pace, but it's a bit ridiculous here. Even if the gear I get isn't as good, at least I can "Sell" it, but there are walls everywhere. I have to wait for a rare item to magically, randomly drop. Once you hit 20, they've effectively removed leveling by skill, and make it leveling by chance. I was playing with a friend, and she frequently got blue and purple loot drops while I was getting very few greens that turned out to be crap.

It would be nice if there was more weapon variety as well. How about rocket launchers that have different explosion effects, or quad launchers? I wonder if they'll ever let you use the guns the fallen use.

The main guns are pretty much just like having a different gun for each firing mode (semi-scout rifle, burst- pulse rifle, full auto- auto rifle), and I haven't seen any indication that the different ammo types produce meaningful advantages in different situations. So much missed opportunity. With a dev cycle as long as they had, I am a little disappointed. It's a damn good thing the game is fun to play.

Don't even get me started on lack of vehicles. There is ONE instance of a different vehicle- the Pike on The Dark Beyond mission on the moon, and it's great (but only because the sparrow has no weapons). Guess I'll have to wait the for the DLC :p

I'm missing something here.

100% agree. Having an MMO and not being able to trade with players is just another example of the poor design choices Bungie have made for this.

Did you get the exotic from purple engram or bought it?

I received it from the Cryptarch in a "package" that contained three engrams for leveling up the Cryptarch to level 7. One of the engrams was an exotic engram which gave me the helm.

Damn. So lucky. I'm at level 9 for crypt arch but only got one legendary engram that was an uncommon weapon.

This 100%.

I will say, the items certainly feel rare enough to make me excited when I get one. The problem is there isn't a ton of compelling things to do to keep it interesting until then

Woohoo, got my first legendary drops today. The first engram drop gave me a uncommon helmet. I was so psyched when I took it to the crytarch and got a uncommon from my legendary, thanks Bungie!

Got an exotic bounty for a weapon and I have to do a weekly strike so I felt no problem. I then proceeded to get splattered and flicked like a mosquito for an hour straight. That was just @ the 1/2 way point waiting for my ghost to unlock a door before proceeding further...

Other then that as a warlock I've broken the world record for obtaining low ranking "axiom coven" gear and legendary engrams that turn to "special stones" ... :smash:

Welcome to Destiny, enjoy your stay :)

"special stones"
Are you referring to Ascendant Shards/Ascendant Energy? If you are, you will need them once you start getting legendary gear. They are very rare, and you will need a whole lot of them.

No I found out what the stones are for, Xur in the temple the black market exotic gear dealer who only shows up on weekends. I have 10 of the stones and need 3 more to snag a piece of gear with more light. Been stuck @ 23 for days and days...

Oh, okay. You are referring to Strange Coins.
