Official Thread Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

Playing through the first game (in all its blocky glory) has given me a greater appreciation for HR and soon to be this one. I think I already said this in the screenshot thread, but being able to tie the lore together between games released 16 years apart is like catnip. (I definitely rub myself all over my monitor) Retroactively comparing how faithful they have made gameplay now (and how much more it succeeds) has been interesting. Thank god they got rid of swimming through murky greasel filled water. I think I'd actually play human revolution differently now that I've played the first.

I'm nerding out a lot with this series. I have a JC Denton (with his monotone coolness) voice mod for xcom. I never let it leave my mind for too long now.

Seven days. Apparently all pre-orders get an extra mission. It snuck up on me too much to do like Tommygun did and play through the series again, not that I have a lot of time to begin with, but I think the pre-HR games will run on my laptop so at some point I will have to do so.

Five days. Pre-ordered. I didn't ask for this, but if it's going to be here . . .

PC version won't support DirectX 12 at launch. But it's coming a few weeks after release. Think I'll hold off until then.

Yeah, I would probably do the same if I were going to be playing on PC. I suppose it's good at least that it's known and not a day one surprise.

Reviews should be released into the wild tomorrow.

Pre-ordered digital deluxe from Green Man Gaming for only $67 or so. Won't be playing it right away as I'll wait to build my new PC.

Game will suck, just like all the other Deus Ex games have.

:p

People who have played it have said it's a super polished Human Revolution. If you liked that, you gonna love this.

I'm trying not to get too pumped for this, HR was one of my favorite surprises last gen as I had never even heard of the franchise before, just keeping my expectations in check.

Doing pretty well in the reviews. Low to mid-80s.

Metacritic PC: 84

Metacritic PS4: 85

Metacritic XB1: 82

Opencritic: 81

Not liking the couple of times where I've seen that they've aimed lower on the story front, but I did like hearing somewhere that the campaign was 20+ hours. Just hoping it's not a Halo 2-esque ending where they cut the story off to defer to a sequel. Although to be honest, the franchise has never really gotten endings quite right - it's always been a mishmash of "okay, here's everyone asking for you to choose them, pick your side" with minimal narrative at that point.

Still, it sounds like they've really tightened up the game play and stayed true to the freedom to try multiple approaches that the series was a hallmark for, and that the world itself is extremely well done. It may end up not quite being the game I hoped for, but it sounds like it'll still be worth the time and money. :)

I liked the lead up to the endings. It really felt like a world where each of the factions was trying to get you to their side. I think once you've made your actual choice and implement it, it's kind of dropped off - though I loved the quotes at the end of the first, and the Helios ending was kind of cool in a trippy way, it seemed kind of abrupt. I don't remember Invisible War's endings well enough any longer, but HR's were pretty much "Push button for cutscene". It was actually true to how the series has always been, so I don't really hate it or hate on it much (as opposed to, say, Mass Effect 3's ending, which was an extermely poorly-done Deus Ex style ending in a series that has no business doing that), but I sometimes would like to see something more.

It's a minor nitpick, though. If it comes down to spending the time to make sure that the decisions at the end feel like they're substantial and the payoff is a little less flashy, that's better than a flashy ending after a multiple choice ending that doesn't really feel like it's any sort of choice at all.

Having now finished the first game (and partially played invisible war), I much prefer the overarching narrative of human revolution. It stayed consistent in story, minus the robo zombie attack at the end of the game, but the ending itself maintained it. the first Deus Ex meanwhile stayed strong for about 15 hours, then the final 4 went right overboard. Quiet sinister conspiracy got overridden by (16 year spoilers) test tube aliens, gene spliced monsters, and bob "I AM A GOD" page.

8/10

Some aspects of the old games can be comfortably ignored and I don't think anyone would mind.

Got a physical copy coming from amazon, 10 dollars cheaper with prime. Gotta get some use out of that damn sub.

I need to remember to check and make sure I had HD space cleared off for the pre-download to begin. Not likely to be up late enough to start on after midnight, but I imagine I'll get a good couple of hours at least the next few nights.

Picked up my copy and installing now, can't wait! Game is around 35GB and a 4.1gb update.

I'll pick this up in a few months when I see on sale.

Loving this game so far. My only beef is that the first few hours are the parts they showed in all the lead up videos. My fault for watching them all though. I'm a little over 4 hrs in now, so I think I'm past all that. This is going to be a real time sink with all the side missions.

I heard many technical issue with the PC version, So I am holding off for a while I guess.

I want to play it, but have plenty of other games I need to finish. There's no rush, so it'll drop in price and be better patched.

Yeah, I tried not to watch too much so the "prologue" mission was pretty much new to me (though the 12 minute recap of HR that I watched while eating dinner was what I saw on the DX channel on youtube last week, so yeah). The mission where you end up getting your augs unlocked was the one I had seen too, although luckily I stopped watching that early enough that I didn't really feel like I was about to follow a walkthrough to get through it. That's as far as I've gotten, and I enjoyed it quite a bit so far. Love the tutorial system - it's probably the best way those have been handled in a game that I can think of.
