Drive Club Release Date: 10/07/14 (NA) + New Trailer

Hey Jester, thanks for posting those videos. The sense of speed and change in lighting conditions looks awesome. There’s a weather system and damage modeling as well, right?

I don’t mind microtransactions when you can unlock things just by playing. Gamers just like to complain about almost everything these days. But the truth is some players don’t mind paying to unlock things so I can’t blame developers for giving them that option.
Looks like there is some sort of weather and damage modeling, but to what extent has not been revealed yet.

Compression is pretty bad in those videos but the lighting and environments are looking really good.

Footage of these video's will be going up on Driveclub.com on Monday for uncompressed footage.

Some previous footage to illustrate the type of tracks that will feature in DC:

Looking at that animated gif gives me memories of the NFS days back on the Sega Genesis....OMG I had ENDLESS hours of fun on that game. I would race the same track over and over for 8 hours a day. I haven't done that in a game since.

So looking back at the gaming news I didn't keep up with over the past bunch of weeks, Sony tried to pull a fast one regarding something to do with saving $10 on a digital version with the requirement on PS+. But then days later did a 180? Wow.

Can anyone summarize the difference in content between the PS+ freebie version and the full game? Last year, Sony said the PS+ free version would have "slightly less content" than the full game.

They offered an option to upgrade the PS+ version to full but you'd still lose access if your sub expired. Stupid offer, but it's not like they removed the retail and full PSN purchase options. They 180'ed it a day(?) later.

PS+ version has all the game modes and online play but limited cars and tracks iirc.

The free edition basically has everything, but is limited to 11 tracks and 10 cars. The full version has 55 tracks and 50 cars.

Don't have a 1080p monitor now but looks good as far as non resolution stuff. Will have to check when I get home.

Okay, I just watched both videos. Looking really good, just need to fix those jaggies on the lines. That lighting system :surprise:

Time to delay another year. It looks really nice, but I'm not seeing anything justifying 30fps other than lighting/reflections. Give me baked lighting and 60 fps and call it a day.

They really just need to kick poly to curb and let these guys do a proper GT game. Their time is over. Combine the studios whatever.

Your'e crazy. GT6 is the best sim racer to come out in years, even if it got lost between gens. They are horribly slow for sure, but they know how to make one hell of a sim racer.

Well whats there to compare? Who else has taken that long to do sim racer? GT6 is just GT5 should have been.

Saw the 1080p vid.

Pro: The quick day/night cycle may seem pretty unrealistic and gimmicky, but it is a good change of pace vs. static day or night races. Gives a good variety of colour/lighting. The fact it is optional makes this graphics feature pretty cool. Engine sound is pretty revving and pumping.

Cons: Jaggies everywhere, frame rate hitches especially when the cars are bunched up and turning around a bend. Not sure if that's human players or cpu AI, but if it's cpu AI it's not very smart

Forza looks better for sure. I've never seen NFS running in person, but solely comparing NFS vids and DC vids, I even give NFS an edge (excluding the day/night cycling feature which is cool).

Well the day/night cycle speed is a gimmick... at least as far as these videos go.

I do not think Forza or Drive club looks all that impressive from a graphics POV.

Looks good, they just need a bit better AA/AF. Didn't notice any "frame rate hitches".

The lighting/reflection models take up a lot of the power budget.
