EA Access: Sony's response, is it the future of gaming and does it affect gamers?

Since it is a beta, and they really need to test the streaming of the rental service, it should be one set price or free for limited time for all beta testers. They can work on pricing/subscription later. EA Access provides a code for a free month.

If it was a small scale closed BETA, sure. Is a little unrealistic to expect things for free on an open BETA though. I also assume this will not be like most BETA's where it goes away and then the final product comes. I assume this will just be a continual service that gets updating and eventually its status will change.

I disagree. Priority is on how the service works under load, not if they can get payments sorted. If the service sucks, then they need to do lots of refunding as well as leave a sour experience with the users. They should provide a free period or free credits at the very least. Those that want to pay beyond that can, but at least they get to dip their feet in a bit before doing so.

You call EA Access and "awful precedent", but see nothing wrong with PS Now? EA Access is $4.99 a month, or you can get a years subscription for $29.99( $2.50 a month), 10% discount on EA games, and DLC, you would save $6 on 1 $60 game, that's a month membership to EA Access. The value of PS Now isn't even close to the value of EA Access, and you call EA Access an "awful precedent"? You make no sense at all.
First of all, I called PS Now a joke. Why are you just blindly assuming I don't have a problem with it? Talk about not making sense. Secondly, PS Now has zero in common with this service besides being a subscription.

Wrong. People have bought Xbox Ones due to EA Access already. I visit sport gaming communities and some who haven't made the jump to this current gen said they bought (or will buy) an Xbox One for it.

Also, as I said before it's not just a rental service. People will be getting discounts on new (digital) content that they can own. I don't get why some of you guys are trying so hard to downplay it to the point in which you are taking away details about what the service provides.

I don't think the service will be HUGE (at least not yet) but it's definitely going to be a reason to push certain people into buying an Xbox One until the service comes onto the PS4 (if it ever does).

Yeah I know someone who said something too LOL

First, publisher aren't going to abandon selling new games at retail for a subscription service, they would lose an incredible amount of money. I don't understand why you would be against a subscription service that would offer titles 6 months or older for a cheap subscription price. EA Access doesn't prevent you from buying a game you want, it actually gives you a 10% discount. Im not understanding your point at all.

I think a better package is to pay a flat fee, & allow unlimited access to PS1/PS2 games. I love some of my PS1/PS2 games, but I sure wouldn't pay 5-10 bucks to play them again.

5 x $60 x .1 = $30 = 1 year subscription to EA Access.

Simple math, logic and ultimately a choice the individual should determine to make or not.

That's without even considering the games for free in the Vault, nor the 10% on all items including DLC and Season Passes.
They usually don't make 5 good games a year is my point.

I find that very hard to believe at least a note worthy percentage.
$6 off already over priced content isn't much of a deal(yes I think its foolish to spend the same price for DD as physical)

I can agree certain people might choose the XBO because of the service but not a note worthy amount.(ie just for the service as I feel other factors would be bigger in that decision)

Just wondering do you or anyone else have comparison of sports game numbers PS4 vs XBO?

Does it even matter if it sells hardware or not ? I would love to know how either side of this argument is going to estimate the imponderable.

It seems he was trying to insinuate people were buying XBO's because of it and you saw my response.

I think he did far more than insinuate. However, it is a moot discussion. It is one opinion vs another with no quantifiable way to estimate. Which means it will go on and on and on and on and on and on and on.

Ah. Well, then mileage will vary. ;)

Have you been possessed by VaLL?

Any PS3 exclusives in 2014? Srs question, 360 is still getting a few quality releases.

Am I wrong? Merely stating the facts.

The only exclusives I know still coming out are Tales of Zestiria, Tales of Xillia 2, Tales of Symphonia Chronicles, Drakengard 3, Persona 5, Until Dawn.

Which few 360 quality releases are you talking about? Are they multiplatform?

For someone to really get their money back on the discounts they'd have to buy 6 or more EA games a year, Bgamer says he does that so it may be a good deal for him. For me I only plan on buying 1 EA game in the next year and that purchase isn't a sure one but Dragon Age does interest me a bit.

If someone wants the newest sports games and doesn't really care about having access to older sports titles (and why would they?) then the discounts could be their only real benefit and I honestly don't believe that many people buy more than 2 or 3 EA titles a year at most. They can try to bring up early access all they want but that's just paying for an extended demo and their new gen non sports library is going to be pretty shallow for a long time to come.

I wholeheartedly disagree with you there. I spend much time on sports forums and there are tons of people absolutely rabid for particular sports games and getting to play it 5 days early is HUGE for them. Gives them time to practice the new gameplay before most, bragging rights, people love to come on forums and answer questions for those who don't have it yet, twitch streaming, and more. It's no accident that copies of Madden and FIFA that get out in the wild before release sell for well over $100 on Ebay. There are many many people I know who would pay $100 for EA Access if it gave them unlimited time with just their 1 favorite sports game.

The 10% discount doesn't just apply to new titles either. It also applies to DLC and for a huge crowd of people Ultimate Team items. People spend ungodly amounts of money on UT packs trying to boost their team like kids used to buy ballcards.

Getting freebies like Dragon Age and Peggle only further sweeten the deal as there is easily $30 value between just those 2 if you hadn't purchased them and the library is only going to grow. Many don't buy all sports titles, or alternate years between buying them, so there is more value in getting the game they skipped even if it's a year old.

As I said, if you check out any of the big sports gaming forums like Operation Sports or Pasta Padre you will see that there is a ton of positive talk for EA Access and it's especially noteworthy because the general talk when EA is discussed is often negative.

They need 5 days to practice games that hardly change from year to year?

You say "$6 off" as if it's one and done. $6 off multiple amounts of content & games adds up pretty easily. Also, if a person wants a game early (and uses early access) he/she would have more than likely spent $60 for the game anyway (but in retail).

Just wondering do you or anyone else have comparison of sports game numbers PS4 vs XBO?

Not in detail. All I know is that the EA Sports games (and NBA 2K14) sold very well on both consoles -- well, all except for NBA Live 14.

Some people, yes. Some people like to check/test out the new features (which goes against your "hardly change from year to year" point).

Other people would simply like to play the games earlier than the retail release date -- For example, I know Madden comes out during the week that many people go back to school. Being able to have access to it before then would be ideal for these people.

Ill definitely subscribe to EA Access once they start adding more games. I own 2 of the titles available in the beta, and cant jump just for Fifa 14 and Peggle. I only buy Madden every few years, but for the price of the subscription, I would pay that to get to play Madden every year alone. Then you have the other sports games like boxing, golf, basketball, hockey, and soccer, I would pay $2.50 a month to get to enjoy those. Then there is Battlefield, Battlefront, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, etc. You get a 10% discount on any EA title you buy, you could take the $6 you saved and get a month sub and have even more games to play. Regarding the 5 day early access, you cant make me believe that people wont be flocking to Twitch, and Youtube to watch early gameplay footage of Battlefront. I can agree that the 5 day early access isn't the second coming, but its certainly a nice little bonus. I really don't understand how anyone could perceive these things as negative.

Your reply speaks volumes on your lack of understanding. To a casual, yes, the games change little from year to year (FYI same goes for the real sport itself). But the new features they bring can have huge differences in play style, having to unlearn techniques/button combos you've been doing for the past full year, and more.

5 days is a big head start as evidenced by the major outcry that occurs when they have release dates spaced apart between NA and Europe.

When you put it in perspective it's a really amazing deal. This is where gaming is headed if EA Access is a success. Especially when things go all digital. I expect Activision and other companies to be right on EA's tail. Look at streaming for TV shows and movies and now other entertainment. Netflix and Hulu Plus were such a success that the WWE offered their own version of Netflix for wrestling fans with WWE Network. I think Sony needs to get with the times. How they allow Microsoft to remain one step ahead of them every gen is puzzling to say the least.

I agree with the guy in the video regarding Sony. They should have just kept their mouth shut. If EA Access doesn't offer the value they want for their fans, the they clearly think their fans are idiots, because PS Now is not good value at all.
