Wait...some people are making a big deal of this across the net? Eh its just abit silly really. You'd be foolish to not subscribe to either Plus or Gold and miss out on their benefits of both, since you've already spent hundreds on these new consoles to begin with. So now its time to penny pinch? Really now.... Both camps are most likely gonna be subscribing to both networks anyways. Who the heck buys an X1 and not subscribe to Gold? Who buys a PS4 without PSN Plus? Its like buying a PC and not ordering internet servive through an ISP,youre missing the full experience. I think the bigger issue is paying $15.00 a month just to enjoy a new Elder Scrolls game here. These games are filled with glitches and bugs,do i really want to pay them monthly for that now? Hmm. I dunno, its asking abit much.

I think the monthly subscription will impact the games ability to draw a new audience outside the MMO regulars.

I think MMO players looking forward to the next big thing will overlook the subs. Its a familiar model and if the game can warrant it, nobody in that audience will blink.

While it makes for a talking point, I don't think console subs matter. If you are not paying for Plus or Live it is highly unlikely you're the type to pay triple that for a single game. If you are paying for a console sub then I think all that matters is which category above that you fall in.

What I don't understand is why MSFT is unwilling to match Sony's move of no subscription requirement for online gaming for MMO games. Greed is the most obvious answer but its probably more than that, would be nice if MSFT addressed this.

The image has since been taken down, but its contents are clear. The Imperial Edition includes a 12-inch statue of the Daedric Prince Molag Bal, a map of Tamriel, and a huge 224-page illustrated book. Additionally, Imperial Edition players will have the ability to play as an Imperial regardless of alliance. And just to sweeten the deal, you'll get a white Imperial horse, a Mudcrab pet, and a pair of Rings of Mara. The whole set is bound in Steelbook packaging.

I don't get it either. There are going to be more MMO games. They really need to fix their policy. How many other MMO games that could potentially become big do they want to miss out on?

I thought Microsoft policies were exempt for MMO's. Meaning Silver didn't matter.
Well..take Happy Wars for example. I believe now you have access to the game when you only have silver, but you can't play multiplayer, which is what you get the game for in the first place since it's an MMO :/

It seems like every day there is news about how Microsoft is behind the curve. Microsoft really needs to pick up the pace and stop spending their time playing catch up with PlayStation.

MSFT should allow MMO games to be played without a Live sub. It just seems like a common sense thing to do especially with all the MMO games that keep coming out. Plus it will show that once again MSFT is flexible and will change or amend policies like they did with the great DRM debacle. I think they could also use some good PR right now while they continue to get slammed over Resolution-Gate. ;)

Now would be the perfect time to be proactive on this issue. It's been an issue for far too long. That and I wouldn't mind seeing a Phantasy Star Online or something like TFLO handled properly this time around ;)

That's my question as well. I have XBL so no big deal to me. But it seems like Microsoft try their best to turn consumers towards the competition.

This situation is not new. It should have been addressed with the start of this gens first MMO.

I would never go without Gold, but i would never pay a monthly fee to play ES Online either, not interested.

Of all the game types to allow without Gold, MMO's make the least sense financially. People who play MMO's often ONLY play that MMO.. MS doesn't make money from people that would buy an Xbox One, and then sit and play the same MMO for years with no other cash rolling in.

It's just not MS's business model to sell you a console and then discourage you from spending more money.

I have a bunch of friends that play mmorpgs on pc and buy as many different types of games for their 360 as I. They play anything from Halo to Gears and fighting games. They might not be 'the casual gamer' but then neither are the mmorpg players demographic. Maybe Xbox gamers are more diverse than they think.

That's not what bothers me about them. If you don't have Xbox Live or PS+, you should.

What bothers me is Microsoft is shamed by the competition on a near weekly basis. And they just sit there and take it like @ssholes. DO SOMETHING, DAMMIT!

Don't just wait for PlayStation to move and THEN do something, because people know you're just acting in response. I don't care about Xbox Live restrictions. Do something new. Do something unique. Do something that makes people think, "Wow, that's a cool feature! That makes me want an Xbox". Every day Sony is announcing something cool. PlayStation Now! PlayStation emulator for PS1 and PS2! Free MMOs without subscription! Super indie friendly policies!

Microsoft: *crickets*....

ugh...sorry for the rant. It's not like I regret my purchase (I'd make it again if I had the choice), but Microsoft needs to actually go on offense for a change.

Interesting move in general for them to go the sub route.

F2P games are dominating revenue right now.
But they don't bring true premium quality for mmo. Final Fantasy XIV is doing extremely well with 2.1 million subscribers.

This will be no different.

Sure.

There's also a lot of MMO players who otherwise don't even game.

They make way more money. There's no reason you couldn't do F2P and have much higher quality than a sub MMO.

I like the sub model myself, but from a company standpoint it's strange considering where the market is going.

I rather pay then f2p. Its junk and always be junk. Tell me one game that have a premium game that started as a free to play?
