Elite Controller

150$ is too much and this isn't some custom made controller like scuff and other modded options. This will be mass produced in a factory some where. How can you even compare the 2 is beyond me. I really hope they lower the price down to 100$ asap because I'd really consider biting at that price point but 150$ and it can't even go wireless out of the box for pc. You have to spend another 25$ on the wireless dongle.

Maybe if it came with wireless options for pc play out of the box I'd consider 150$. Until then MS won't be wallet raping me.

Why MS can never seem to price s*** correctly is baffling.

I don't mind paying $150 if MS pack it with a free $60 game or a one year subscription of XBL Gold.

The metal rings around the thumbsticks are SO smooth. The plastic rings on my current controller have worn down and become rough. Can't wait for the Elite.

This must be the controller they spent a billion on. Its exactly what I've been wanting for years now ...Backside paddles, trigger sensitivity, adjustable height/replaceable thumbsticks, If they allow you to custom map buttons that will be the cherry on top or maybe adjust the thumbstick throw deadzone sensitivity and pitch speed.

150 is pricey but on par with modded controllers with these features.

There is button remapping.

I thought if it was over a hundred..it was an automatic no. I am now wondering about added button options for people that own the pro controller.

Fallout alone has just ensured my Elite purchase.

Not that a big deal to save a few bucks here and there..

Why does Fallout influence your Elite Controller purchase?

Any game that has a large wealth of things in your inventory, make a controller like this, more desirable.

Skyrim was faster with Kinect as you didn't have to hunt through pages of inventory for a spell.

I would hot key weapons/items to the paddle buttons.

Are SCUF controllers completely custom made ? I thought they were just modded MS controllers with Scuff parts added to. I tried to create a Scuf that was as close to the New Xbox one Elite controller and it was abut 170 bucks.(166.00)

I don't know if you can do it like that. I think you are basically just making the different paddles behave as other existing buttons so they are more accessible. That's how it works with custom controllers. The one I have (that is busted because of poor build quality, I paid 80 bucks for it too), the paddles just press A or X respecively, I think.

They are modded controllers. That's the point, there is a lot more work involved for scuff to do what they do compared to what Microsoft is doing. Which is why it should be cheaper. We're talking about mass produced Microsoft controller here that will be created in some factory in china.

I'm not assuming that you definitely can..which is why I spoke to more options with the pro.

Wouldn't take much for them to allow paddle 1-4 controller options.

Again Skyrim is the example..because voice wasn't an option till they had a different control option available (kinect) and decided to integrate it in..

That would be very cool, indeed.

I was super pumped for this controller...........then I saw the price tag. Bring it below 100 and we'll talk

£129 - Microsoft you are f***ing insane.

The Dollar sign definitely follows the M today

I was thinking £80 max

I will jump on one of these eventually. Probably tax return season as a personal reward for filing and the illogical feeling of getting free money back.

The price might keep me from buying one at the moment. It's half the price of a Wii U, lol. Looks amazing though, drop it to $100 and i'm there.

Way too much. I'm not an elite gamer, I don't need an elite controller.

Not surprised....outlets are fapping over this...

Xbox One Elite Controller Hands-on: Modular Bliss

During E3, peripherals are usually put on the back burner in favor of games or flashier peripherals. This year, however, Xbox announced its new Xbox One Elite Controller during its press event. Targeting gaming enthusiasts and professional gamers, the wireless controller allows you to swap out parts for better performance and comfort. Priced at a whopping $150, this modularity doesn't come cheap, but after spending some time the Elite I definitely want it.

Design
Microsoft made a pretty comfortable gaming controller. The Xbox 360 controller is still widely used for PC gaming. However, the Elite might just have the 360's number. My hands were greeted by the kiss of the black soft-touch finish covering the front of the controller. The grips along the back of the device are covered in a gray rubberized plastic with a raised diamond texture. The materials help ensure a secure grip.

In order to deliver the feedback that professional gamers prefer, the Elite's trigger buttons are equipped with a hair trigger lock. Activating the lock prevents the buttons from depressing fully allowing for faster input which comes in handy for first-person shooter where precision and speed count.

The stainless steel thumbstick shafts and d-pads aren't just for show. Microsoft claims that the metallic parts will prevent the parts from wearing down. The tops of the analog sticks are outfitted with reinforced rings that gently gripped my thumbs. Although the face buttons haven't been specially modified, they still provided firm feedback.

Modularity
The Elite's key feature is its modularity. The controller ships with three sets of analog thumbsticks, a pair of d-pads and two sets of paddles. The bundled sticks include a tall, short and domed set. Of the three options I preferred the tall ones ,which felt best on my thumbs.

Although it looks strange, the faceted d-pad was my favorite. It provided a level of articulation that's difficult to achieve with a traditional pad. I can see myself using this pad for fighting games like Mortal Kombat and Killer Instinct; making half and quarter circles to perform moves should be easier to pull off.

If the controller isn't comfortable enough for you, the Elite also has two sets of paddles that fit along the rear of the peripheral. Once attached, the paddles can be programmed as input devices.

Attaching parts is a quick and painless process, thanks to the powerful magnets. The pieces quickly and securely snapped into place when swapped out. Removing parts was as simple as giving a quick upward.

Button Mapping
Although physically swapping out parts on the controller is cool (and fun). nearly every facet of the Elite can be modified to a particular gamers taste. To accomplish that goal, Microsoft created a button-mapping app that will be available on both Xbox One and Windows 10.

Using the app, gamers will have to ability to tweak a plethora of settings, including setting thumbstick sensitivity and mapping the buttons and the d-pad.

Bottom Line
The Xbox One Elite controller is a tempting piece of tech. Not only can your program every input on the controller's frame, you can literally swap out pieces. The $150 price tag is high compared to the $59 Xbox 360 controller, but if you want to experience one of the best controllers on the market, Microsoft's new peripheral seems worth the splurge.

I'll definitely be getting one , I got a 150 dolla Kinect that I never use except to take a pic of codes so I don't have to manually enter them and I'll be using this Elite controller everytime I game so its a no brainer.
Right off the bat I'll put a slightly taller thumbstick on the right side for more precise aiming, set the triggers to "Hair trigger mode" and set up my paddles for reload/grenade toss/crouch.

I don't mind paying $150 if MS pack it with a free $60 game or a one year subscription of XBL Gold.

I actually would be okay with this.

They should have a sku with halo 5 or something.

The more I think about it the problem is for that much money I will need to try one before I buy. They better have demo models out in stores.

  • I'm definitely picking this up, it looks insanely good! $150 seemed a bit steep, until I saw the overall quality and options. Can't wait to use this for Forza, Halo, Fallout... and all the other awesome games coming out this year! Just wish they could launch it now, not in October!

I have a feeling that this will be available for a bit less than the suggested retail price not long after release.

No doubt sales will happen... Just like anything else. You could also see Gamestop do a Elite trade promo.

GameStop likes to bundle everything so I could see them giving away the Elite Controller for free/additional $50 if you purchase a Xbox One console.

I just preordered mine for 99 (dutch webshop dunno if they deliver WW) dunno if thats an error on their behalf or what but hopefully they won't refund and actually deliver.

You know the more i read up on it the more i think 150 is a fair price. Just read on all the extras and scuff charges more but with lesser options and build quality.

I looooove those paddles on the back ... they replace the x y a b buttons ... means you never have to take your thumb off of the right stick
