All I can think is that this game begs for 60 fps. The response time is a tad slow. It's tough and takes practice.
Yeah. The HUD is a bit cluttered.
Yeah it's pretty full on. I've noticed that trend in their games recently. I hope they'll have options to minimise the HUD noise on the full game like Division does.
Would be nice to remove the HUD entirely and just leave the A,B,C points and your form indicators on.
Game gas a steep learning curve. I tried the practice a couple times but it seems like a bad curve as well. You go from NPCs that barely move and fight, to being paired with two double teaming you with non-stop barrage if attacks.
I tried online but lag was horrible, entire game stuttered, and I got booted back to dashboard once as well. Is the entire game just conquest? Was hoping to see some campaign or something I could just solo. I was thinking this would be kind of neat with a civ like over map where you played out your strategy and then battles were conducted in real time on the battlefield.
Watching vids, I see the following:
- Good graphics (scenery and player models)
- Arguably the worst and most intrusive HUD/icons everywhere
- A clunky playing game. By the looks of it you can't mash the buttons as UBI made the players have weight to the animations
- No doubt, it was probably intended that way, so people have to get used to watching the player arrows and timing attacks and blocks, but I don't see fun here
- The NPC AI looks as dumb as Titanfall grunts. Filler. Gives presence and atmosphere, but gameplay wise a waste of space
Yeah graphics are decent and models are great.
Agreed on the UI. Hope there is a minimal mode option available.
It's not clunky at all. The combat is incredibly smooth. It's heavy with real weight. It's probably the best melee combat I've ever played. A button masher this is not.
Pretty much spot on for the bots. They are filler. There for atmosphere. They are not a waste of space though. They add great atmosphere and you really feel like it's a big battle going on. You can also unlock rally boosters to make the bots fight harder / bettter but I haven't unlocked that.
Damn! I wish the spear character was in the alpha.
That's great! Twelve characters! 4 per faction! With all that customization, that's a ton of content. I could even see them adding characters as part of the DLC. I like the look of that guy with the spikey bat but yeah, that spear guy looks awesome as well.
That bat guy looks cool, but I imagine he play similar to the other heavies. The spear guy should be totally unique.
I could see the Knights having a Halbred guy to counter the spear dude. Not sure what the other knight vanguard would be or the knight assassin. I wonder what the Viking heavy is as well? That big guy in the alpha was the vanguard. Don't know what the Viking counter to the spear guy should be either.
There's a Beta? *runs off to sign-up*
Agreed on the clunkiness. I understand there should be weight to the attacks, especially if you're using a giant axe or claymore. But the Samurai using a katana for instance felt slow as well. Trying to take out minions he seemed to almost all the time stab the enemy, meaning then the surrounding enemies would hit me. Sure they don't do much damage but just seemed silly to be stabbing everyone. I should be able to use light attack and be a lot quicker killing minions. Against enemy heroes it wasn't as big of an issue.
Now my biggest issue with enemy heroes is the lack of them (AI battles). It just seemed boring wandering around looking for an enemy AI and then being able to kill them quickly. Maybe eventually being able to up the difficulty would help. Also, another issue I had was lets say you do get into a good battle with enemy hero. Then a teammate just shows up and starts attacking as well. I don't like that. I'd rather continue that battle alone.
Overall was disappointed with what little I played. I understood the game enough but it was just boring. If all they are going to have is the three game modes then count me out. Like Lnin0 said though if there is a single player campaign more like Total War where you can control your empire then engage in battles it may be fun, but otherwise just seems like the same crap over and over again in multiplayer.
Bonus points to the second Samurai you can play though. Loved the focus on parrying and counter-attacking. Made it a lot more fun to have to time your blocking instead of just matching stance. I would be more interested if every person had to time the parry instead of just matching stance.
I just did the training level, and kept going so I could practice. It was chock full of AI Hero characters. There was barely 10 seconds before there would be two more to fight at checkpoint. I kept wanting to go one-to-one, but it was always 2 of them.
I know! Unfortunately some close friends lost their 4year old daughter to cancer, and we were helping with the funeralAll that work to get you the beta key and you only did the training level!!

Ubi loves to put white outlines around the character you're focused on.
Only in this game the character also has a big circle under them as well.
All that work to get you the beta key and you only did the training level!!
I actually played that Training level for a long time. Long enough that I could live through a 2 v 1 situation more times than not. You could play that level for as long as you wanted.
