How is Sam Grand Maester when he isn't even a Maester? In fact why is he not back at the Night's Watch?
He was sent by Jon to be one. And the fact he tried warning all these maesters and was ignored probably gave him clout among other things working in his favour.
I've been turned off by this show ever since the writers were not able to borrow the biting dialogue and political intrigue from GRRM's books. I honestly would have been fine with this entire plotline if only we had better dialogue, and more explanation, without plot holes.
The book(s) GRRM is writing will will in all of those blanks left by the show, and will redeem the GoT brand. And then it will all get torn down again when HBO makes the prequel/spin-offs.

Yep. Instead of dialog, we got quick plot turns without any real drama.
I'm not 100% sure GRRM even has an ending at this point. I know when/if the books come out I won't be reading them until someone tells me that it is worth it.
My gut tells me he has no idea how to finish the story. I hope I'm wrong. I feel like he led us down this path with no payoff.
He was, but all did was empty s*** pans and cook slop. Cured Jorah. Then stole some books and left.He was sent by Jon to be one. And the fact he tried warning all these maesters and was ignored probably gave him clout among other things working in his favour.
He told them each characters fate years ago

I think the overall fate of the characters is fine...well, except Bran. I just think some characters were poorly developed which makes their twist ridiculous.I don't think we know that. I don't think he would have been that clear on the fate of a lot of these characters.
Not to mention that you can't just paste on endings for characters who are taking very different paths
The writers confirmed it years ago (2013)when they said he revealed 3 big moments coming up. One was Shireen being burned by Melisandre.
2 was Hold the door and 3 was Dany at the end.
He confirmed Jon's parentage in their first meeting with him.
The 7th book title was changed but it's long been hinted that the Starks would end up on top. And they have still been having regular meetings with him despite him taking a smaller role in recent years.
Bran ever refers to himself as Bran the broken in clash of kings
He had the story planned yonks ago. Characters have been moved elsewhere but the characters that are alive/dead in the show will be by the end of the books.
Brienne kinda forgot she swore to protect Sansa
Her job was to keep her safe. She's done that
My overall view of the season is that it was clearly rushed. HBO allowed the showrunners to do this so they can do Star Wars apparently, but the show itself could have used an extra season or two, or at least more episodes to flesh out the character development and battles. Especially for the Battle of Winterfell.
i don't think not having books is the real issue. Yes, you will lose a little something, but alot of the shows biggest issues are due to rushing it.I've been turned off by this show ever since the writers were not able to borrow the biting dialogue and political intrigue from GRRM's books.
