nice, might download map packs since they r free and give some team slayer a try, haven't played this in years
 
Can you only download the games they have for a particular month or can you download all the previous ones as well?
 
So with a little over a month till xbox launches.. when do you guys think the devs will be done with the development of their game.? The reason I ask is because we have not been given much Footage of DR3 and Forza 5.. and I suspect it's because they are not finished.. so I'm hoping they have enough time till launch iron out the issues or are the games almost gold already and too late?
 
Not all games are announced Gold, and generally they go gold around 4 weeks to release. So sometime in the next week or two at the latest I reckon.
 
Microsoft has announced the Games With Gold program will continue to run past November. It had been running as a "limited" program but the overwhelming support of the program called for it to now become permanent. No word on it expanding to the Xbox One. Hopefully it will.

I always hoped they do that. Makes it more comparable to ps+ now.
 
What about the X1? Is it going to be making the generational leap as well?
 
Question: Will every free game be accessible to new customers that subscribe to Gold or only for the month their available on?

In other words, will Halo 3 always be free for all future Gold members or must you download the game the month it's made free if not lose out?

I highly doubt it at this point but maybe 8-10 years from now. But I could be wrong because MS is moving fast and there is coming lots of competition besides Sony PS4.

Maybe in next year or so if we're lucky. X1 games would probably have to start getting released as classic editions first

Not possible for new members to get backlog games. Maybe they'll have a special promotion for new members?

I don't understand why they don't just keep these games free all the time. Halo 3 is free right now right? So if you don't download it within the limited time frame that it's free, you have to pay for it if you want it?

There's always a catch with these promotion things.

PS+ gives you free games to stream instantly, but you never "own" them because the minute you don't have a PS+ account, your access to those games are gone.

Additionally, PS+ doesn't always have the game available for free right? So it's only available for streaming for a limited time, kinda like Netflix with their movies.

Xbox's games with gold is really no different, though the upside is I guess that once you download it within that limited time frame, it's yours to keep forever right?

I like the Xbox promotion better because you get to actually keep the game.

Xbox promotion is good because of the fact you get to own the game forever. Makes me wonder if you can access the game without signing into XBL?

Yes. My son and I share a single xbl account. We both generally download the free game. It works on both consoles even when not signed into XBL. Havent tried re-downloading the game on both consoles, but once you download it the first time, it appears you can re-download forever.

Nice! I think I'll fire up some Halo 3 multiplayer this weekend. Cringes me to say this but it's the last good Halo game of the series as Reach and Halo 4 were letdowns to me.

I hope they continue things like this on the X1. Although I don't think we can ask much. Project spark will be free for all members and PC players, and the games can be shared cross-plat. You can have a plethora of games just with Project Spark.
 
Back at E3 when Games With Gold was announced we were told that it was only a timed feature and would end in December. It now looks like the feature has been a success and will now be a permanent feature for Xbox Live Gold users.

Would like hem to start doing some themes. For instance they could have had both Crackdowns for free and the dlc on offer.

Halo 3 was an amazing game for its time. Since then the COD effect caused fps games to have a slower run speed, and those design choices impacted the game... I liked the single player of reach a lot however. I was hoping for some halo wars action in free with gold. I suspect they will save that for the promotion period of halo wars 2.

I would love to see that too. Never played Halo Wars but I definitely would for free!
