Like anything, if someone already doesn’t like something, they’ll automatically look for anything negative (kind of like the glass half empty idea).

I’m super excited for it either way. This review is also super-positive:

And I think this is also the case with a lot of these reviews...?

Isn't the release times staggered for thw ultimate edition? Meaning if it releases at 9 pm Eastern time tomorrow does it release at 7 pm Central time? I thought I read this somewhere.

Why are people complaining about average scores being in the mid 80's? that's really good.
Because another platform has higher rated games.

I'm with you, a mid 80 game is really good regardless of any personal opinions one does or does not have.

My understanding is it is 9PM in your timezone.

There's still a lot more reviews to come. I'm thinking it'll hit around 88, not that it matters. This Gears looks to be the full package!

Agreed, it seems like the reviews don’t include the MP yet...? So weird. I’m expecting by the end of the week for it to be around 88/89.

These review are all over the place. Not talking about the scores so much but the content and critiques of the game. One review is claiming the the open world campaign is big, empty and lifeless, the worst he's ever seen. Another claims the open wold gives a new well deserved wrinkle to the Gears formula. Same with the characters. One review says Kait is quite possibly the most charismatic lead a Gears of War game has ever had. Another calls her uneven. It just seems like all these reviewers played a wildly different game from each other.

No. MBG.

I just watched his video and wish I hadn't. Lol.
Basically Xbox fanboys are toxic, cant take criticism of the brand and are holding up a solid game as the second coming of Christ.

Basic clickbait hypocrisy.

I thought that maybe he would just talk about the game on its own merits But no, console war gets the clicks.

Xbox fanboys? What makes the gaming console they play on possess them to be anything? Toxic , tribal thin skinned a-holes exist in every walk of life. Even Presidents. Call them for what they are.

I’ve gone through a lot of the reviews. People who were burned out on Gears struggled with Gears 5. Extending the game only made the experience worse. Their reviews are averaging around 7.

Gamers who still enjoy the classic Gears formula are calling this the best Gears ever. Scoring it over a 9 on average. The median score for Gears is over a 9.

Bottom line is if Gears 4 was a bit of a chore, don’t waste your time. If Gears is still a fun franchise for you, this could be your game of the year.

Doing bigger open areas when you've never done it before is hard to do so they may not be perfect, it could also be that someone who was happy with the more linear approach the older games took finds these changes to be tough to accept while people who like open world or just more open linear games will find it a welcome change Just remember MGSV got a ton of super high scores (93 on MC) and it had the worst open world I've ever seen, it was fine graphically but the world was virtually lifeless and almost all of the missions took place in the same few bases etc.

I am skeptical of Kate being the most charismatic character, if she is they must have had her do a 180 from the last game because she was boring and I found her annoying as well. The fact that she looks like a barista in battle armor doesn't help but she just didn't have any personality, color her hair pink and throw some thick framed glasses on her and she's every resetera member and gaming journalists wet dream lol. I was really disappointed when they said they were going with her, the game could still be a ton of fun but to me she was the least interesting character in the last game so hopefully they've done a lot to change that. I re-subscribed to GP for 2 months for $2.00 so I'll play the game for myself and find out.

I was watchin the Xbox Interactive stream yesterday and the "open World" part I saw did come off as rather empty and lifeless. Plus, the whole "new deserved wrinkle to the Gears formula" isn't a comment about quality anyway. Just a fancy way of saying it has something new.

But I do agree in gdneral, though. Reviews are all over the place.
