  • Drift Trial: Score points for drifting around the circuit.
  • Custom Races: Specify your own parameters for a race on the circuit. We still don’t have the exact details of this feature, though we can presume it will at least provide the same functionality as seen in GT Sport.
  • Meeting Place: Although we are still light on details for this new feature, Yamauchi-san described it as a virtual social space dedicated to the circuit. “It’s like being at the circuit café at the Nurburgring. You can imagine it as an open lobby where everyone from around the world will join and you will be able to chat with them at any particular time, and you can drive together as well.”

Gran Turismo 7 PS5 Version Has Strange Ray Tracing Restriction

Speaking with Japan's Game Watch outlet, Yamauchi confirms that there are only limited ways that ray tracing is used in Gran Turismo 7. Ray tracing can be applied to Gran Turismo 7's replay clips and within the game's garage where players can stage their vehicles for viewing. In other words, ray tracing is used only in a very limited capacity, in situations where the PS5 isn't dealing with gameplay processing.

While Yamauchi doesn't explicitly state why this is, it's obvious. Ray tracing requires a significant amount of processing power and that's a valuable resource in the middle of gameplay. All Yamauchi does say is that adding ray tracing while training would be "really difficult." Polyphony Digital has clearly chosen to prioritize using the PS5's resources for other aspects of gameplay and visual fidelity, as exciting as ray tracing is.

The confirmation that ray tracing won't be utilized in Gran Turismo 7's gameplay is likely to disappoint some fans who hoped for the opposite. After all, ray tracing was an oft-mentioned feature ahead of the arrival of next-gen consoles, and Gran Turismo 7's announcement trailer, in particular, teased ray tracing. Despite that, it seems the PS5 may not have been as ready for ray tracing as marketing may have wanted us to believe.

Where this come from?

Cause it defo sounded like Ray Tracing was in gameplay. Plus, if it wasn't, why have "modes"?

See my most recent post just now. I got this from GTPlanet.net. Here is the link:

Lol.

So where has all the PS5 power gone? No in race RT, seemingly no 120hz mode, Physics are limited by base PS4, visually the game looks like an updated GT Sport.

Obviously the PS4 has held it back visually. However, it's the best looking GT ever and finally has a FULL campaign and feature set, unlike GT Sport. The weather looks to be drastically improved and available on more (not all) tracks.

You know you are getting this day one. You don't have the self control. You want all the racers.

Day 1, no. I need to wait a week or 2 to make sure it runs fine on base PS4...yes, yes, YUCK!! I know.

As long as it does I will be getting it, yes.

So no RT in gameplay. But there's a raytracing mode in races replay at 30 fps?

I think Forza Horizon 5 didn't have that. Only in the vista which is the photo mode equivalent of GT7 I am assuming.

So at least we will see some RT in moving action scenes which is cool.

Yeah, it wasn't happening in FH5 outside of ForzaVista due to open world. However, Playground Games implemented their own version of raytracing in the game that was less resource hungry and looked very similar.

I'm definitely going to wait until game and performance reviews are out, and probably even until a few weeks of gamer feedback is in.

This just looks, sounds, and feels incredibly outdated on all fronts to me. It's like the devs haven't seen or played a single other driving game other than GT in the last 15 years. When the controller implementation is the only feature I'm still interested in after the info dump over the last 24 hours, it's not a good sign.

Forza was only raytracing in the sound no? Like Returnal.

Can't wait.

Plus you know it will be heavily supported, with content and major updates, for at least three years.
I like that they did that with sport, but that kinda felt like they were trying to not only appease fans for what it lacked and as a test bed to gauge players. And it gave them time to develop/build cars and tracks that would eventually become the default for gt7.

Who knows gt7 could become a new platform and use it as a GAAS lite (sport?) version in which they start selling car/track packs….why, because they can, but hopefully they don’t

From what I understand, RT reflections on cars is really taxing. I wouldn't hold my breath to see it in gameplay on Forza 8 either. I'd love if they could at least use it for self reflections and use screenspace where appropriate.

Don't even need it. Complete waste of resources.

But where those resources have been used in GT7 is the mystery of the year.

It seems all their big hitters are cross gen. But with GT7 likely to be the only GT game on PS5 it is a shame.

First 3 years of PS5 will be crossgen mostly as already stated. So 2024 will be when we start seeing more PS5/Ps5 pro only titles I am guessing.

I'm really hoping they improve the driving physics. GT Sport was fun and looked great, but the driving felt so... dated compared to other driving game handling.

Yeah I've never been a fan of Polyphony, I don't think their games have really looked above average since the PS3 days, they clearly aren't taking advantage of what the PS5 can do in any meaningful way.

Who the f*** wants motion blur? Better be optional.
Second reply

Personally, I hate motion blur, chromatic aberration and film grain in any game. Why make games at a high resolution if you are just going to throw a bunch of effects on screen to mimic flaws? keep it clean and pristine lol.
