"2022 was an unmistakably great year for games. But in a year of great games, Elden Ring still stands above its competition as something truly special. After all, what else could you call it when a game this bleak, massive, opaque, and challenging also happened to be one of the year’s biggest pop culture phenomena, and one of the best games released in recent memory?"

Can't be right, 2022 is supposed to be a really bad year for games 😆

2021 was the really bad year for games.
I can't even remember my GOTY....

Coming from a guy who works on.... Sony exclusives.

We know full well none of that would have been posted if he was still working on Halo.

He does admit Sony's faults too in other tweets and read his last tweet in that thread. 😆

Kinda unfair to compare gow to cod when one is on a single (two really atm) platform at launch vs a multiplatform game across maybe four/five methods of stores/distributors and at least five platforms

A media conspiracy that somehow succeeded in indoctrinating gamers that the emporer have clothes...
prob bc the prodigy of the old school style of game this "series" have that pretentious doofuses pretend to love to make them seem like they know better than everyone else.

I've tried to make people here give me concrete reasons to why this game is a goty nominee, no one answered.

Personally, I feel that it conveys a sense of exploration, dread and wonder that I have yet to experience in any other game this year. It has the dark atmosphere and precise combat of the souls games, but with the open world attention to detail and exploration of the BOTW.

Personally, I feel that it conveys a sense of exploration,
I agree, that doesn't make it a goty contender though imo, I can explore the back of my house and find a $100 bill, still wouldn't qualify as doty.
dread and wonder that I have yet to experience in any other game this year.
The wonder thing is cool, but I can explore the back of my house and find 46 wonderful, purple flowers, still wouldn't qualify as doty.
It has the dark atmosphere
okay...
and precise combat of the souls games,
It's not precise, it's archaic and slow and the only reason people call it "precise" is bc you need to think 5 seconds about how slow you're attack is and then rethink it bc of the button lag.
but with the open world attention to detail and exploration of the BOTW.
What detail? It's barren with huge empty areas. When you finally find something of value it gets your attention of course. And there's usually 3-5 identical, often overpowered, enemies hiding there that'll kill you so you of course remember it.
You then have to go and find a place with a few enemies slightly over your lvl and farm them for 45 minutes (or more) so you can go back and kill those s***ty animated enemies you died from.

If you don't agree that's fine, you just said nobody had given you their reasons.

Thank you for being the only sane one here when it comes to Elden Ring.

Because Dark Souls and open world. That alone is GOTY worthy 😬

No, it isn't lol

Okay okay, frankly speaking it was just something about exploring everything blindly, grinding to get your souls and upgrades up and expecting the unexpected while exploring that made it kind of addicting to keep playing. Also it felt rewarding to just get through the map blindly because you don't know what side is easier or harder based on your level. Also the boss fights were awesome, the OST was lit and Melina is hot.

And that made it your goty over Ragnarök?

Yes. I was fully addicted trying to get the platinum for Elden Ring and Ragnarok, I beat but not as inclined to push for the platinum.

Ragnarok has the better storytelling though.

In the same sense... one can be unbiased even if they work for a company.

Otherwise we can't trust anyone working in any company when they talk about their own products 🤣
But saying something negative about your employer on social media could threaten your job, even if you feel that way.
