Never played forge and I haven’t done Halo Coop since Halo 3 as well.

No campaign Co-op/Forge at launch, bahahahaha. Not a good look for MSFT to have so badly mismanaged the development of one game that will launch a year late and will now be incomplete.

Perhaps Uncle Phil can schedule a class at Sony's internal development/management course to get an idea of how things get done on time and on budget.

Sony probably told them to hold these features so they can charge $30 for them a year later.

So it sounds like they had to remove originally included features to make the 2021 launch window otherwise they would have to delay again to launch in 2022 (which would probably piss off gamers even more) if they wanted to also include coop and forge.

I guess if the updates are free then it's okay.

I really hate console wars debates but has Sony or any publisher for that matter tried putting put a game with this much content? Forge, campaign and multiplayer are each AAA games in of themselves. We're still waiting for LoU2's multiplayer.

There was obviously mismanagement at 343 but Staten came into one of tbe biggest and most complex projects during a time covid impacted bigger projects the most. All while the new game engine was still being iterated and next gen Xbox tools weren't ready. Whoever would have inherited this situation was put in a bad position.

Coop is pretty important to the Halo package and this is a big miss but it's still good to consider the context of the situation.

COVID lockdowns didn't start until 3/2020 about 8 months before the game was to be released and at a point where the game should have been almost in the polishing phase. Engine and Tools development should have been finalized and since they weren't points to mismanagement or an unrealistic timeframe given where they were with the tech.

Its nice that you're sympathetic to these issues. But to me it sounds like making excuses for top to bottom mismanagement for the development of this game. They even botched the delay now that its been stated the game will release without major features. MSFT should just delay it again, take the PR hit and release the game when its done........with all the features gamers expect from this franchise.

But hey, at least there's another Forza coming.

Okay... No co-op campaign...?
I'm honestly not sure what to say anymore... Couldn't even find a gif to show how I feel about this.
Just delay it again... or... don't... I don't care anymore.

Thanks 343 for crushing my hype... again.

I agree, but you clearly are a potato and hate msft, put that fuel into the right thread.

Makes you wonder what they were going to ship last year...
Maybe the fact of adding ray tracing into multiplayer may have had strange affects within forge? Only say that cos theft said that with hdr and 4k textures not being included in multiplayer/forge, it caused weird things that I can’t remember atm

Even though co-op and forge don't affect me in the least, this is another sign that 343 just don't appear to be capable in their current configuration of delivering.

Spin it baby!

Consider the context?

Consider it already was delayed and MS sent FOUR teams to help the abysmal 343.

If it takes longer to make it better that's fine but the mismanagement is real.

Delaying the game would be silly. If you demand those features... just wait? Don't buy it until it has what you want? Delaying it for everyone when not everyone needs those features is silly.
Finishing the game after it comes it out is a lame practice that deserves criticism BUT it is better than releasing broken games like Cyberpunk

I have seen some people say its missing some of its weather features as well although I don't know if that is true. In normal circumstances this game would be delayed but they don't want to deal with the embarrassment of another delay which is understandable but not really an acceptable reason.

343 is a mess

I disagree. I’m tired of devs putting out half a** games and then fix later or add features later. If the complete package is not finished then delay. This is not a yearly franchise release like say COD. 343 has had how many years and they still have to cut franchise features to make release. Unacceptable.

Yeah, I LOVE Halo, and I'm confident that the gameplay will own every other console fps out there, BUT... this is really turning into a mess at this point. No co-op is insane (no forge also, but to a much lesser degree) and how the talks around the office when prioritizing gameplay elements and agreeing to skip co-op is mind boggling to me.

Also, have they gone into detail regarding what exactly is dropped? Online co-op, split-screen (2 or 4 person?) etc?

Sounds like all campain co-op is being treated the same, since there's no specific verbiage. It also sounds like it's going to launch about 3 months after the game's release, and Forge about 3 months after that, so at least it's first. I honestly don't care if Forge is late, but no co-op campaign for the holiday season is a big-time bummer, and not a good look.

Of course, missing the holiday launch window completely for 2 years in a row would be just short of burying the Xbox brand into the ground, so I get it, even if I still kinda don't. They must have hit technical problems, and had to rewrite something foundational. That's the only thing I can think of that makes sense. I wish at least the couch co-op was in, at launch.

"Should"....yes it "should" have been a lot of things. There have been directional changes and struggles with the engine rebuild that's supposed to support the game a decade. There's certainly more than covid as part of the delay. That falls on leadership. I already said that. If management is the ONLY thing you're able to focus on, I have to assume either emotionally irrational or disingenuously trolling.

It's the most expensive and demanding total package Xbox has ever published. It's more robust than anything else being released during covid so far. There's no good AAA comparisons. There's absolutely more context to this situation to consider.

People have a right to be disappointed. It's not a complete Halo experience at launch.. It's logical to question leadership decisions. Most of the leaders have been turned over. Chris Lee, Luongo and Holmes are gone. The lead writer, lead art director, lead composer and lead for multiplayer all were replaced. They course corrected more than graphics which extended the project beyond the troubles accentuated by covid.

That said, if you played the tech preview, you see this game shines where it matters most....gameplay. There's going to be content for a long time. There's plenty to still be excited about.

This clearly remains to be seen, no?
I know for a fact it was far more ambitious than anything else Microsoft published before. How much was scaled back to finally get the game out the door remains to be seen.

There's aspects of Halo in development that we won't see at launch beyond what is being talked about.
