Official Thread New PC Hardware Discussion. POST YOUR RIG/SETUP.

I am getting the Logitech G Cloud handheld tomorrow. I got this from an Amazon Prime deal low enough to pull the trigger.

I can't wait to try it.

Are Sata 3 SSDs worth it?

I only really want it for faster Windows 10 boot time. So want something cheap.

I still have SATA SSDs in my main machine as large bull game storage drives, there's really no difference in loading times from NVMe or SATA SSD in games, it'll be fine for OS too.

Are these temps safe? CS2 is melting my rig lol

It's like low 80s for GPU

Holding on to that 1080Ti? Low 80s is fine. When it starts crossing the 85+ then you might want to check your air flow and cooling.

It's hovering around 83-85 lol.

But next week will be a different story ;)

Got my new rig from Lenovo: their Legion Tower 7i Gen 8! Had a sale where I got this desktop for like 45% off with all discounts on top. Came out to $2100+tax CAD which is great because usually this CPU and GPU by themselves would cost just over 2k+. No brainer to get the whole rig even if it's prebuilt since Lenovo's mobo is based off of the Intel Z790 chipset and has room to upgrade in the future.

These are the specs.

Processor
1x 13th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-13700KF Processor(Core™ i7-13700KF)
Memory
2x 8 GB DDR5-5600 (UPGRADED to TeamGroup Vulcan 32GB DDR5-6000 CL38 @ 1.25V)
Operating System
Windows 11 Home 64(EN:English)
Hard Drive
1x 512 GB SSD PCIe (ADDED Samsung 980 Pro 2TB M.2 NVME from Prime day deal)
Wireless Network
1x Wi-Fi 6E 2x2 AX; Bluetooth® 5.1 or above
Ports
1x AC-IN; Audio Port; Ethernet; 2 USB 2.0 (rear); 4 USB3.2 Gen1(5Gbps); 1 USB3.2 Gen2x1(10Gbps); 1 USB3.2 Gen2x2(20Gbps); Headphone (front); 1 Microphone(front); 2 Internal High Speed USB 2.0; 2 High Speed USB 3.0 (front)
Graphics
1x NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 4080 16GB
Included Warranty
1 Year Mail-in

PCMag gave it pretty good reviews citing the only negative was basically no front USB-C which doesn't really matter to me.

Happy to try Starfield again and hopefully no more crashes this time haha!

Nice. I bet you feel like a kid in a candy store right now. I know I would. We have a similar rig, only that I am rocking a 3080 still, but by choice. You shouldn't have issue with Starfield.

Indeed. Pretty much after coming back from work and cooking dinner, been playing and fiddling with the rig lol.

Installed Samsung 2TB Pro, the new RAMs - The Corsair didn't work at first so had to uninstall, put in the TeamGroup and that ran at advertised finally. Submitted return for the Corsair. My 2TB Samsung 980 Pro wasn't being detected at first - rechecked and saw that when I was putting the heatsink back on, the stick moved a little and wasn't fully plugged into the slot (of course!), re-situated the position and now it's formatted and good to go. Started downloading Starfield and CS2.

For the RAM, 400mhz diff in memory speeds (DDR5-6400 CL 32 1.4V vs DDR5-6000 at CL38 1.25V) but at a 50% premium price (144.99 vs 99.99 of the TeamGroup) so decided to just opt for the better price/performance ratio set :)

Just testing out the temps right now in CS2 and the GPU is cool as a cucumber - 50-55 degrees Celsius and getting 300+fps . Going to limit to 165 now bc of my monitor haha.

Wait is this a thing?!
Not sure but just curious if you could elaborate a bit more about where you got this PC? My Dad needs a new PC.........I'd love to have a look for something pretty good on discount........ You got this directly from Lenovo? (I'm also paying in Canadian bucks)

Thanks in advance for any info there.

Straight from Lenovo's Canada website.

There used to be a coupon that gave it a couple hundred bucks off (BENGEXTRA6) and it stacked with the $100 off email sign up promo code too + Rakuten 12% cashback on the day I bought it.

Right now the BENGEXTRA6 coupon expired now but there's still 25% off and you can probably get the $100 off email sign up and Rakuten cashback (which varies from 3%-12% cashback every now and then).

$100 off email signup: https://www.lenovo.com/ca/en/email-signup/?orgRef=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.bing.com%2F

Here is the models website: https://www.lenovo.com/ca/en/p/desk...legion-tower-7i-gen-8-(34l-intel)/len102g0007

Or if these are too hardcore for your dad, Bestbuy has a sale on right now a lighter gaming model $999.99 ($300 off) where you can probably stack Rakuten.ca cashback again. Up to 4% right now (normally 1%)

If it's just a light browsing, watching videos/movies PC you want here's an even cheaper version . Remember to click the "COUPON" button to save an extra $50 for $549. Hard pressed to build one with those specs at this price. Also note this doesn't have a gaming GPU, you would need to add one if you wanted to game at decent resolution and settings.

  • AMD Ryzen™ 5 5600G Processor — Experience seamless operation while multitasking with Ryzen™ 5 5600G.
  • AMD Radeon™ Graphics — Achieve a steady workflow even under heavy workloads with the integrated AMD Radeon™ graphics.
  • 16GB RAM — Equipped with 16GB RAM to enable smooth performance and load multiple apps seamlessly while adding flair to your system.
  • 1TB Solid State Drive — With 1TB Solid-State Drive, enjoy massive storage space for all your files, programs, and video game collection.

Awesome response and much appreciated. I wish I could get the bigger discount on the Lenovo's that you got. Still very enticing at 22% even......

I'll let my pops know about it.

These are all probably huge though right?

He's not a gamer btw, but he is convinced he needs a good GPU even though he doesn't. His desktop is so outdated and yet he boots it up with like 36 tabs open on his browser and I swear it takes 10 minutes to boot, and I'm like Dad you know I can reboot in 11 seconds?

Someday he'll actually upgrade I hope.

Yeah if he doesn't game at all, he won't need a gaming GPU. The onboard video these days are pretty decent compared to before. If he has lots of google chrome tabs open, I would invest in at least 16gb desktop or 32gb even as they are not too pricey these days.

Most importantly, get one with nvme M2 drive and install Windows 10/11 on it and a motherboard that does quickboot as that will easily shave off tens of seconds in booting your system. Happy deal hunting !

Did a monitor upgrade today to an Alienware AW3423DWF QD-OLED monitor. This is the absolute peak of video display. Ultra wide OLED with full real HDR 1000. The pictures do it absolutely 0 justice.

This monitor was my endgame. My previous ultrawide was a cheaper VA 144hz model that I was testing to see if I really liked 21:9, I ended up loving it and upgraded to the QD-OLED ultrawide which is currently on sale at Best Buy for 799.99, originally it was 1100 dollars.
