At end of next year when supply is not an issue, PS5 will easily be 2:1 or 3:1, maybe even 4:1.

PS4 handily beat the Xbox One sales last gen so I'm assuming the trend will continue this gen seeing these initial multiplatform comparisons. At first I thought the "most powerful console" marketing by MS may be grabbing some more of the market share but the power delta that was supposedly there is not showing so far and in fact lagging behind.

According to publishing sources speaking to VGC, launch sales for Sony’s console far exceeded the UK’s previous record holder, 2013’s PlayStation 4, which sold some 250,000 units in its first 48 hours.

It means PS5 significantly outsold the launch of Xbox Series X and S in the region, which VGC previously reported had sold around 155,000 units on its first day."

For reference
THE UK’S BIGGEST CONSOLE LAUNCHES
250K++ – PS5
250k – PS4
185k – PSP
165k – PS3
155k – Xbox Series X/S
150k – Xbox One
113k – 3DS
105k – Wii
85k – Nintendo DS
80k – Nintendo Switch
70k – Xbox 360
40k – Wii U

To be fair, the shortage issue makes the sales inconclusive. At my local GameStop, the Gamestop guy told me all next-gen consoles are sold out & I can't even preorder for the next batch. Told me to come back maybe in January or Feb.

I have no doubt PS5 is vastly more popular, but it's hard to deduce anything concrete.

Yes this is true. They are just selling out whenever they are in stock so far. I see this going into the new year.

MS did some anti consumer/not gamer friendly things when XBO launched so it was hurt out the gate.
MS got arrogant with the 360's success.

Sony is doing some anti consumer/not gamer friendly things when PS5 launched and believe me people are bitching.
Sony got arrogant with PS4's success.

PS4 was riding the good things Sony did ending the PS3 generation.
XSX is riding the good things XBO been doing to close the generation.

With all of the above said.... I can easily see XB taking NA IF MS makes enough units in a timely manner.
The only chance to get close to PS5 in WW sales is IF they keep ALL the Zeni-max games off the PS5.

Wonder how many sales have been to scalpers? Seems like they have had a field day

I do think Sony could have relaxed on the pricing of their new next gen games.

As to whether MS can retake NA, it'll come down to whether or not their new exclusive games can deliver.

Switch dominating gen 9 early. Switch has been the best selling console for 24 months straight now.

Seems like I was more on the right track Hedon , PS5 did outsell both the XSX/XSS combined and have the biggest console launch ever.

Hard to make any real sales until stocks are more readily available, but when they do, PS5 outsell Xbox 2:1 , 3:1 or more is unsurprising in my opinion.

The biggest selling point of X SEX is more powerful, and the consenus by most gamers I think is the performance are not that much difference.

But we will see.

Oh btw, if XSX/XSS sold less than the X1 in their main market (NA) and about the same in their 2nd market (UK), how did they have the best Xbox launch ever? Hmmm.

From NPD:

November 2020 consumer spending across video game hardware, content and accessories reached a November record $7.0 billion, 35% higher when compared to a year ago.

YTD spending totaled $44.5 billion, 22% higher than the same time period in 2019.

Content

Call of Duty: Black Ops: Cold War was November's best-selling game, and instantly becomes the best-selling game of 2020 year-to-date. It also ranks first on both PlayStation and Xbox platforms for the month of November and YTD.
This is the 13th consecutive year a Call of Duty game has ranked as the best-selling game of its release month.

Assassin's Creed: Valhalla debuted as the 2nd best-selling game of November and is the 7th best-selling game year to date. Assassin's Creed: Valhalla achieved the highest launch month sales for an Assassin's Creed franchise title since Assassin's Creed III in 2012.

Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales was the 3rd best-selling game of November, while ranking 2nd on PlayStation platforms. Launch month sales were the second highest amongst superhero games on PlayStation platforms in U.S. history, trailing only Marvel's Spider-Man.

Just Dance 2021 debuted at number 13 on the November best-sellers chart. Launch month sales of Just Dance 2021 were the second highest in franchise history. Only Just Dance 3, launched in October 2011, experienced a larger launch.

SOFTWARE for the month:

And yet Xbox also had their biggest launch ever. It’s a bummer that MS can’t even keep them in stock. But as we know, Phil decided to launch their console in double the countries it had before. They spread it thin but at least he expects stock in April. They also had a record launch in the UK.

Hm, maybe MS meant biggest launch as in launching in the largest amount of countries around the world.

They definitely need to get on that manufacturing on the double.
