The Sony Group held a general meeting of shareholders in Tokyo on the morning of the 22nd. President Kenichiro Yoshida said, "We would like to accelerate the supply of the PlayStation (PS) 5" home video game console, which continues to be in short supply, and achieve annual sales of more than 22.6 million units, which is the largest ever in the history of PS. Emphasized. Against the backdrop of demand for "Nesting", we aim to break the sales record of the first PS in 1998.

Square Enix praises Outriders Game Pass launch, says player numbers exceeded expectations

President Yosuke Matsuda says IP has "gotten off to a good start"

Square Enix has commended the day one launch of Outriders on Xbox Game Pass, saying that the decision led to more players than expected.

The game, developed by People Can Fly, launched on April 1 across multiple platforms, but was free to play for Game Pass console subscribers.

During the company's full year briefing, Square Enix president Yosuke Matsuda said that the Outriders IP has "gotten off to a good start", not only with player numbers, but with sales too.

"In addition, we have been pleasantly surprised as the digital sales ratio for the title have been very high, and the number of active users has also beaten our expectations," Matsuda said.

"We believe that our decision to make Outriders available with Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass as soon as the title launched also worked in our favor. (to build an installed base for the game)."

Outriders reached 3.5 million unique players in its launch month, putting the title "on track to become the company's next major franchise", according to Square Enix.

Co-head of studio Jon Brooke also added: "We look forward to expanding on Outriders in the future."

Launching on GP definitely helped boost player numbers for the game.

"Outriders launched day and date on Xbox Game Pass, Microsoft’s gaming subscription service. This almost certainly contributed a player boost, though it’s unclear how much of the total install-base is attributed to Game Pass subscribers. Launching on so many platforms certainly helped reach a wider audience.

Shortly after launch, in the UK alone, we know 83% of Outriders’ boxed sales were on PlayStation, despite having a large boost on Xbox due to Game Pass."

Yup. Game developers and Publishers keep praising Game Pass. Great news for gamers around the world.

Yup, because they love getting the money upfront and also getting gamers to play their games.

Great news for gamers because they don't need to buy the game to finish it. Not as good for sales as evident by how much more PS sales are for the same title. For example, 83% of sales on PS platform. But for the developers they might have already been paid enough. Who knows what deals were cut.

Microsoft hits $2 trillion market cap for first time

Microsoft reached a new milestone Tuesday as the company’s market capitalization hit $2 trillion for the first time.

The Redmond, Wash.-based tech giant trails only Apple among the world’s most valuable companies. Apple became the first publicly traded U.S. company to reach the $2 trillion mark in August. Fellow Seattle-area giant Amazon, valued Tuesday at $1.77 trillion, is also approaching the $2 trillion club.

Microsoft stock was up 1.1% Tuesday and is up more than 20% this year.

The company continues to see growing demand for its cloud services
as the pandemic has accelerated technology adoption. It beat quarterly expectations with $41.7 billion in revenue for the March quarter, up 19% year-over-year — its biggest revenue growth since 2018 — and profits of $15.5 billion, up 44%.

A Wedbush report last month projected more growth ahead for Microsoft, with Azure’s cloud momentum “still in its early days” and the company “firmly positioned to gain more market share vs. AWS in this cloud arms race.”

“With workforces expected to have a heavy remote focus, we believe the cloud shift is just beginning to take its next stage of growth globally,” Wedbush analyst Dan Ives wrote. “We believe this disproportionally benefits the cloud stalwart out of Redmond, as Nadella & Co. are so well positioned in its core enterprise backyard to further deploy its Azure/Office 365 as the cloud backbone and artery.”

Microsoft stock has risen 20% over the past 12 months. (Google Finance screenshot)

Microsoft also continues to invest heavily in its gaming business
; add new features to its Teams collaboration software; and is staying active in the M&A arena with its $19.7 billion acquisition of Nuance Communications and reported interest in Discord and Pinterest.

But but Xbox says Japan is their fastest growing market worldwide 🤔

It was a cheap way to try to put a positive spin on something, if your product improves even a little bit in your weakest market and everything else is doing about the same yeah that's what you'd say. I don't think anyone really believed they were actually doing well there, well maybe some of the Spencer heads did but outside of that bubble nobody really thought xbox was actually doing well in Japan.

Glad to see all 3 selling well almost a year later.

June 2020 to May 2021 - Total Dollar Sales in USA, Physical + Digital

#3 The Last of Us Part II - June 2020 to May 2021 (12 months)
#4 Spider man Miles Morales - November 2020 to May 2021 (7 months)
#5 Ghost of Tsushima - July 2020 to May 2021 (11 months)

The NPD group tracks the best selling games in the USA over the last 12 months. Meaning currently, we can see physical and digital dollar sales from June 2020 to May 2021. This covers the entire time all 3 big 1st party games from PlayStation have been on sale. We know Ghost sold over 6.5 million units, and since it ranks 3rd on this chart, we know all 3 games have sold at least 7-8 million units by now. A safe guess is Ghost of Tsushima has sold 7-8 million units, Spider-man Miles Morales has sold 8-9 million units, and The Last of Us Part II has sold 9-10 million units. So we now know The Last of Us Part II has been a big sales success for Sony. Also, interestingly, all 3 games have climbed higher since last month, showing strong sales momentum long after launch.

Miles Morales has been on sale for fewer months, but has benefited from being the major PS5 launch game. And it has since outsold Ghost of Tsushima. However, The Last of Us Part II has outsold Miles Morales so far, at least in terms of dollar sales. Miles Morales was a $50 game, not a $60 game, which makes its position here a bit more impressive. It would have had to sell more units (at a lower price) to overtake Ghost. If The Last of Us Part II and Miles Morales each sold the same number of units, at their full prices of $60 and $50 respectively, then The Last of Us Part II would rank higher in dollar sales. So there is a small possibility Miles Morales has outsold The Last of Us Part II in units, but thats also pretty unlikely. Many users will have paid less than $60 for The Last of Us Part II, making the price difference between it and Miles Morales basically a non-factor.

Microsoft kicking ass and taking names.

Scarlet Nexus debuts at No.8, with 58% of sales on PS5, 21% on PS4 and 20% on Xbox consoles.

Interesting that the PS5 version sold the most and the PS platform share is around 80% even with Microsoft marketing the game. No GamePass Day 1 for subscribers either so I would have thought more people would be buying it on the Xbox.

RE Village also sold 80% on PS platform vs 20% for Xbox back in May.

Mario Golf: Super Rush had a relatively modest launch for a Switch release, although Mario sports titles rarely have big launches. Week one sales are 17.5% higher than 2018's Mario Tennis Aces, although obviously the Switch install base was a lot smaller back then.

It means after two strong weeks at No.1, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart loses its No.1 position and actually slips to No.3 after a 78% drop in sales week-on-week. This would seem like a steep fall for a third week, but remarkably the PS5 exclusive rose in sales during its second week (a very rare achievement), which is why this drop looks so severe. Of course, PS5 game performance is heavily impacted by the availability of consoles.

FIFA 21 is the No.2 game. The EA title rises 10% in sales week-on-week, and is no doubt benefitting from the European Championships, which are currently taking place in multiple countries including the UK.

Honestly think MS need to cut down on the number of XSS they make and focus on getting more XSX out which is what people want out of the two.
S stays in stock for a couple days but the X sells out in less than 5 minutes.
