Honestly think MS need to cut down on the number of XSS they make and focus on getting more XSX out which is what people want out of the two.
S stays in stock for a couple days but the X sells out in less than 5 minutes.
I think the S and X are different assembly lines and parts.

Mario Golf: Super Rush is No.1 for a second consecutive week in the GfK UK boxed charts.

The Nintendo Switch game retains its position despite a 52% drop in sales week-on-week.

It was a quiet week for physical retail game sales in the UK. FIFA 21 retains second place despite an 11% sales drop, Mario Kart 8: Deluxe actually rises a place to No.3 despite a 19% sales dip, while Animal Crossing: New Horizons is also up a place to No.4 after a 22% sales slide.

Recent PS5 hit Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart has slipped to No.6 after a 54% drop in sales week-on-week.

Only two games in the Top Ten increased in sales week-on-week. Grand Theft Auto 5 at No.7 (sales up 20%) and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild at No.10 (sales up 31%). It's the third consecutive week of growth for the 2017 Zelda game and the second big jump in sales. It follows the new trailer for its eagerly-awaited sequel at E3 2021.

Also new last week was Scarlet Nexus from Bandai Namco, which falls from No.8 to No.27 after a 62% sales drop.

There is one new game in the charts this week: Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance at No.23. The game sold primarily on PlayStation consoles (54% on PS5 and 42% on PS4). The game is part of the Game Pass subscription service on Xbox, and that data is not counted here.

The UK physical chart is pretty pathetic at the moment with the no. 1 selling game doing less than 50k and the 40th game lucky to do more than 200.

They need to just focus on the digital and physical charts now seeing as we keep hearing how it's a 50/50 split in many cases.

How many of those are scalpers? And how many are still sitting unused due to people not wanting to pay £700+ for them?

With lockdown ending shops need to make buying these consoles collection only for the time being.

Well, going by recent months sales, PS5 often is the leading platform for sales over the PS4 so we know consumers do have these systems and are buying software.

I'm starting to wonder if GP is really affecting Xbox game sales, at least physically because are Xbox gamers just not buying as much as they think GP will eventually put the game they want into their catalog? So the gamers will just wait and see.

Well it’s the minority of Xbox owners that have Game Pass.

Recent trends show PS platform has 80% of sales over Xbox's 20% so why aren't these owners buying games?

Most Xbox are going digital or what's going on.

Well there are far more PS4 & PS5 than xboxes owners. Also gamepass means less need to buy game. I haven't bought a game since I have gamepass.

That's exactly what I think. Most people on GP won't buy the game if it's on GP which would hurt potential sales.

Apparently GP is increasing game sales and many are buying the games at a 20% discount on GP after 90 days.

No company is able to track sales of games on Xbox Game Pass subs.

But again those games sales are average to poor most weeks.

Still doesn't change the fact a huge majority of physical game sales are on the PS platform.

We know digital also plays a big part in game sales but how much?

But when those sales are half or less of what they would be if consoles didn't go to scalpers then sit unused due to the price they charge it does matter.
Lockdown is ending so shops should make it collection only for a bit and actually let people buy it at a normal price.
Wouldn't be at all surprised if most game sales for Xbox And PS are for launch day buyers when the scalping wasn't as bad.

There are scalpers for both the PS5 and XS consoles so they kind of even out that way since it would take away from both sides' potential software sales. The disparity in sales for the platforms are still there regardless of scalpers. Just not sure if it's because Xbox owners like digital more or GP or there are just more PS platform gamers in general or it could just be any combination of all 3 mentioned.

Can't remember the last time I saw the X in stock. Always the S that gets restocked which obviously will have an impact.
For the record can't remember the last time I saw either PS5 models in stock but this is not helped by sites making them available at 3am.

And as mentioned the charts are pointless now when they only include half the data.
Not sure why this is even still the case as they said last year the charts would start including both.

If XSS is being restocked more and selling out, that won't take away from sales.

I would like to see digital sales too included in the charts. At least we get some digital sales info from twitter.

It will cause its digital only and the sales don't include that.

Ah I see. It does seem MS is pushing XSS more with resupply as been hearing it's more readily available. Makes sense I believe if they want to keep pushing gamers to subscribe to GP.

Or it could be just people want an XSX more than XSS that's why it seems like there's more XSS supply, that is another possibility.

XSX and both PS5s sell out within 5 minutes due to low stock/demand/scalpers

XSS definitely seems to be the quicker to manufacture as they seem to restock it every month or so but still not ideal numbers for either company.

Where I live, you can grab an XSS anytime & leave the store, either in one of the bigger electromart like Mediamarkt or Gamestop.

XSeX %& PS5 are not even available for preordered last time I check with a Gamestop employee. He told me maybe end of the year.

Not that it matters to me, since I can get most of the games I want on PC & have more games than I have time anyway.

I believe the disparity in sales in recent game releases just goes to show that PS owners are just more willing to buy new games, at least physically.

Even if there are shortages or scalpers for next gen, there is still a large number of gamers on the PS4 and X1 consoles which we should see in the sales. The Xbox had a pretty stronghold in the UK last gen so it's not like their gaming population is small there. The fact the PS5 version is selling more than PS4 version to me shows that early gen adopters are willing to purchase these new games more for the fact that they are new and have somewhat decent reviews during the small droughts in between AAA releases.

Of course, it's hard to sell the game back when you've finished it if you bought it digitally. :-->: 🤡

Don't get the relevance here. Are you implying PS owners buy physical more to sell it back out after finishing the game and Xbox owners don't?

When I include 🤡 I'm usually more being a smart ass than making an actual point, incidentally.

But if you actually want me to put effort in to answer your question, fine. If you spend five seconds thinking about the type of games Sony is known for, and the type of games MS is known for, Sony tends to have the 'play through this awesome game, you're done' model while many of MS' games are 'slog through the campaign, maybe, but mostly just play multiplayer' model. It's probably a contributing factor to why Moron Mattrick thought they could get away with how they were going to restrict used games on the X1.

Can you buy a used game and play it on the Xbox these days? I haven't been keeping track. If yes, then you can buy and sell used games on either platform.

Those 2 models don't really have much relevance to the past few games that show heavy favour for the PS platform sales in Resident Evil Village, Scarlet Nexus, D&D Dark Alliance... these are all multiplatforms and have nothing to do with exclusives. Ratchet is selling well too, sure, but so are the multiplatforms. 80/20% in favour for the PlayStation platform for RE Village, Scarlet Nexus. 96/4% for Dark Alliance in favour of the PS platform. What's funny is for Scarlet Nexus, Xbox was the main platform of marketing.

Like are Xbox gamers just not buying games? Waiting for it to come "free" to GP? More PS gamers in general? PS gamers more willing to buy games?

You clearly misunderstood how few f***s I gave about the topic, but I gave the one remaining one I had in the last response. If it's important enough, I can dig around for some used f***s, I suppose.

Just found out some more info regarding digital sales.

According to this report for 2020, PS4 accounted for 52% of all digital sales, PC in second place at 27%, if we allocated the rest for Xbox sales that would be 21%. This is without info for the PS5/XS consoles. That's still a ratio of >2:1 for the PS platform vs the Xbox.

There were some other more recent data post-COVID that showed that digital downloads may have jumped up further on PlayStation for overall digital sales.
