Gaming revenue increased $357 million or 11% driven by growth in Xbox hardware, offset in part by a decline in Xbox content and services. Xbox hardware revenue increased 172% driven by higher price and volume of consoles sold due to the Xbox Series X|S launches. Xbox content and services revenue decreased $128 million or 4% driven by a decline in third-party titles on a strong prior year comparable that benefitted from stay-at-home scenarios, offset in part by growth in Xbox Game Pass subscriptions and first-party titles.

If only they could get more available to buy.

Estimate is that its around 6.5-7M sold

Xbox will retake NA
I doubt that, it won't be 2-1 here but I don't think Sony is going to fall behind in sales here. We can't really tell anything until both can be purchased by anyone who wants one though, right now whoever gets more consoles shipped will sell the most that month.

Estimates from VGchartz just a week ago.

Pretty in line if the PS5 has just sold 10 million globally. That should put XS Consoles at 6 million or so now.

I wouldn't expect Sony to say anything less.

I'm surprised personally. Mega hit are pretty strong words. It's all relative I suppose. It's a mega hit for the studio I guess since they are a smaller studio for sure and it's also a new IP and new type of game for Housemarque.
Although, as mentioned above, the term "mega-hit" could just be marketing terms to try and push Returnal's success, it's interesting to note that the page doesn't always use such descriptors for games listed on the page. The Team Asobi section says, "The team behind the PS5 exclusive Astro's Playroom", whilst the Bend Studio part of the site says, "Creating games for over 25 years at the base of Oregon’s beautiful Cascade Mountains." This makes it more likely that Sony does truly consider Returnal to be a "mega-hit".

Personally, I want all games to do well for all companies. Not for the company specifically though. For the hard working people on the teams. Paychecks, family, success, satisfaction.

If Sony deems it a megahit and the developers are happy, I couldn't be happier.

I know Housemarque weren't happy with Nex Machina and Matterfall sales a few years ago which is why they decided to go a different route from arcade shooters. Hopefully this means they are happy with Returnal sales and future looks bright for them.

We are thrilled to announce that as of July 18th, 2021, we have sold more than 10 million PlayStation 5 consoles globally. This makes PS5 the fastest-selling console in the history of Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) and we couldn’t be more excited about the amazing response of our fans.

Pushing through supply challenges and a global pandemic, we’re proud to have delivered a transformational gaming experience that is captivating players around the world. Everyone at SIE put their all into making the PlayStation experience better than ever. I’d like to call out a couple of teams who made especially important contributions.

Our Product Development team delivered amazing innovations including lightning-fast SSD, immersive 3D audio, and the dynamic DualSense controller with haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. Their talent, perseverance, and creativity laid the foundation for the entire PS5 ecosystem.

Since the console launched in November, PlayStation Studios has accelerated the momentum of incredibly successful titles that showcase the capabilities of PS5. Looking ahead, the lineup of exclusive games coming from PlayStation Studios includes a new God of War from Santa Monica Studios, Gran Turismo™ 7 from Polyphony Digital, and Horizon Forbidden West from Guerrilla Games. Some of the highly anticipated games from SIE’s partners include Battlefield 2042 from Electronic Arts, DEATHLOOP from Bethesda, Far Cry® 6 From Ubisoft, and Kena: Bridge of Spirits from Ember Lab.

Additionally, our Hardware Engineering and Operations team was vital in providing the resources to build the physical PS5 units and partnered with our global Business Operations teams to deliver PlayStation 5 from its origin point to markets and customers around the world. Both of these teams, and their tireless efforts, were absolutely critical in delivering 10M units during this historic year.

We are incredibly grateful to our fans for the terrific reception of PS5 and our growing portfolio of gaming entertainment. Without your support and confidence, this early success would not have been possible. We are making steady progress with available global supply and can’t wait for the day when everyone who wants a PS5 can easily get one.

Our commitment to supporting PlayStation’s entire community, across all platforms and services, has never been stronger. So, wherever gamers are on their journey with us, we are committed to making sure that PlayStation is the best place to play.

Thank you!
