Sony exclusives got legs, continuing to sell well.

"Overall, it was a big week for PS5, driven by an influx of new hardware coming to retailers. Spider-Man: Miles Morales jumped 223% in sales, rising from No.13 to No.2. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart re-entered the charts at No.4 after a 630% sales spike, while Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut is up 13 places to No.6 after a 233% sales rise.
these are only boxed sales, and digital downloading has increased rapidly over the last four years (particularly during the pandemic), so it's highly likely that the game's performance is significantly higher."

PS4 version was the best selling

Got my copy on the PS5 too. Picked up just 2 days ago. Their shipment was late at GameStop so had to wait till this week. Not sure if they are selling well or just didn't get a lot of boxed copies shipped to the location near me but when I called, apparently the only copy they had left was in reserve for me (since I preordered) but that was it.

It is the biggest game launch of the year, but FIFA 22 continues a sharp downward trend for the franchise at UK boxed games retail.

Launch week boxed sales of FIFA 22 are down by more than 35% compared with FIFA 21, which was itself down by more than 42% over FIFA 20.

This is based on physical game sales data supplied by GfK.

This doesn't mean FIFA underperformed. Indeed, last year, FIFA 21's launch download sales were up 31% compared with the year before, marking the first time more people downloaded FIFA in the UK than bought it in a box. We will see the download performance for FIFA 22 later in the week when the GSD charts are released.

It's worth noting that FIFA does tend to dip during the early years of new consoles, with consumers split across two generations of hardware.

41% of FIFA 22 sales were on PS4, 27% were on Xbox One, 23% on PS5, 5% on Nintendo Switch and 4% on Xbox Series S and X.

It means last week's No.1, Mario Kart 8: Deluxe, unsurprisingly drops to No.2. But it was still a good week for Mario Kart, which enjoyed a 15% sales rise week-on-week. It is the third consecutive week of sales growth for the Nintendo game.

At No.3 is a new entry in the form of Sonic Colours Ultimate. 53% of sales were on Nintendo Switch, 32% for PS4 and 15% on Xbox One. The Sega game just about holds off Hot Wheels Unleashed at No.4. The Milestone racing title performed best on PS5, which represented 39% of sales. 27% of Hot Wheels sales were on Switch, 14% on PS4, 11% on Xbox One and 8% on Xbox Series X and S.

More PS5 consoles were released at retail last week, which has caused a surge in sales for Sony-developed games on the platform. Spider-Man: Miles Morales is at No.6 after a 165% sales rise, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart jumps back into the charts at No.11 thanks to a 321% sales spike. Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut also returns to the charts (at No.19) after a 134% sales rise.

Last week's new releases all dropped heavily. Lost Judgment falls from No.4 to No.40 after a 76% sales decline, while Death Stranding: Director's Cut has disappeared from the charts entirely.

Recent PS5 hit Deathloop falls to No.12 after a 41% sales fall.

Finally, one more new release lands at No.13 in the form of Insurgency: Sandstorm. The Focus Home Interactive game sold best on PS4, with Sony's console representing 58% of sales and Xbox One making up the remainder.

Here is the GfK top ten for the week ending October 2, 2021:

Last Week This Week Title
New Entry 1 FIFA 22
1 2 Mario Kart 8: Deluxe

Far Cry 6 - 71% on PS, 29% on Xbox

Last Week This Week Title
1 1 FIFA 22
1 New Entry Far Cry 6
New Entry 3 Metroid Dread
2 4 Mario Kart 8: Deluxe
New Entry 5 Alan Wake Remastered
5 6 Minecraft (Switch)
7 7 Animal Crossing: New Horizons
New Entry 8 Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania
10 9 Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury
9 10 Grand Theft Auto 5

The game at the top isn't new, however. That game is EA's FIFA 22, which holds firm at No.1 for a second week. The game dropped 58% in boxed sales week-on-week, which is quite a small drop for FIFA -- last year's game dropped 65% in its second week.

It's worth noting that FIFA sales at boxed retail have fallen sharply year-on-year. Currently FIFA 22's boxed sales are 32% lower than what FIFA 21 managed over the same two-week period (this is according to GfK's retail sales data).

However, the game has actually sold better than ever before via digital downloads, and as a result, FIFA 22 is currently beating its predecessor in the UK overall (digital download data is supplied by GSD, but arrives later in the week).

FIFA's closest rival this week is Far Cry 6 from Ubisoft. The game's boxed sales are almost 70% lower than Far Cry 5, which was released in March 2018. 47% of sales were on PS5, 24% on PS4 and 29% on Xbox platforms. The drop looks severe, but even in three years digital has accelerated significantly, and as we saw with FIFA, it almost certainly did a lot better than it appears.

We can be a bit more conclusive about the No.3 game. Metroid Dread on Nintendo Switch is the fastest-selling Metroid game in the UK to-date, eclipsing Metroid Prime 3: Corruption on Nintendo Wii. And that's without digital sales. It sold three and a half times more copies at launch than the last 2D Metroid Game: Metroid: Samus Returns, which launched on 3DS in 2017, after the Switch had some out.

Next on the new releases is Alan Wake Remastered at No.5. The original game was an Xbox 360 exclusive, so this is the first time the title has been on PlayStation platforms. And it seems to have paid off. 63% of the game's sales were on PS5, 21% on PS4 and 17% on Xbox consoles. The firm said in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz that it hoped Alan Wake would find a new audience on Sony's consoles, and the early evidence suggests that it may have succeeded.
