It's called Gamepass
I thought Gamepass is supposed to lead to more game sales as per Phil.
So you thought people played it on GP then automatically bought it? Which is not what Spencer has said.
83% of Outriders retail sales were on PS platform.
Is it not supposed to promote word of mouth or something which would increase game sales? Either way, Phil said Gamepass would increase game sales ultimately, which isn't what we are seeing here for this title. At least in the UK.
Again... are you expecting everyone who downloaded it to then automatically buy the product they don't yet have to?
Wait for it to leave GP then look at sales rather than a weekend when they get it through a subscription...
Well the good news here is that developers have said how much they like Game Pass and how it has increased their game sales. So it sounds like a win win. As a consumer, it's great that we have a choice. Pay $70 on PS, or free on Xbox.Okay, so usually it will be on Gamepass for about 2-3 months ?
Hard to believe people will buy the game after playing the crap out of it for first couple months of release.

GamePass is using the Netflix model. Pay content creators to have their games on MSFT's subscription service which increases subscription numbers. At least that's the hope and so far seems to be working. Netflix pays literally billions of dollars each year securing content for their service and has been a major success for them. I've read how Netflix borrows more than it takes in but that its seen as a good bet since they continue to grow. I suspect MSFT is taking a similar position and will take some loses in the hopes of their GamePass model continuing to grow.As free as Netflix or Amazon Prime is via a subscription model which isn't really free
Still waiting to see the long term effects this will have as MS tries to step away from traditional game sales as they keep paying these developers to put their new games on Gamepass Day 1. Should be interesting few years as the gen goes on.

Well there are lots of trials and $1 promos. Those are the people who would likely try the games and then buy them.I can see that. So they basically try to attract people to subscribe to them by putting these games on day 1. What I'm not really seeing is how this would potentially increase game sales as people would just play the title whenever it's on the rotation.
It's like saying Netflix is increasing movie sales outside of Netflix, but I don't see that happening. Rather, people are subscribing to Netflix than buying the movies outright.
I think the sales boost comes from gamers who want ownership, as much as you can own anything digital. In some cases the game may be leaving the GamePass service and others just might come to like the game and want to purchase it to play at their convenience.I can see that. I say free because the usual suspects say:As free as Netflix or Amazon Prime is via a subscription model which isn't really free

You can download and stream PS4 and PS5 games with PS Now. Older gen games are streaming only. They can basically do the same thing MSFT is doing. But as someone that has never tried PS Now I'm unsure if you can download the game instead of streaming it.
Ouch...
I say free because the usual suspects say:
^all bulls*** of course, but I figured I would play along.
- Game Pass is free because it's only $1
- Nobody pays the $10-$15 Game Pass monthly subscription, 20 million are free subs
- When people have subscriptions, they call the content free, even though they pay for it in the sub cost
- Xbox has no games, therefore people are paying $0.00 for a subscription that has no games
It will be 4 years this June that Game Pass debuted. MS already said that it is sustainable as is. How long term are you looking? And if you don't use Game Pass or Xbox, why would you care about the long term prospect?
Nah. Sony will do Sony. No need for you to worry about what MS does.I care about it because it would affect if Sony would be doing something similar or not.
It's ok when Sony does it.Sony are busy closing Japanese studios

February and March had a slew of Xbox-specific announcements such as a wealth of Bethesda titles now on Xbox Game Pass and indies aplenty also showing up on Microsoft’s subscription service both of which they claim, played a role in customers choosing the Xbox Series S.
“Most of them showed up to buy a PS4,” says one store executive on the condition of anonymity. “When we told them it was out of stock and explained to them what Game Pass is and how many games they get access to, they picked up a Series S instead.”
This isn’t just the case offline either. Multiple online retailers have seen an uptick in Xbox Series S sales while the console has routinely been on Amazon India’s best-selling list too. Though some believe the company could be doing more.
“It’s only sold well because it’s what’s available,” says a manager at a large format electronics chain. “We’d have sold the same — if not more, if we had the Series X instead.”
