PlayStation 4 and Xbox One resolution discussion.

Ok, so we have extremely heavy smoke, sparks everywhere, but no fire...

Accumulating a large number of turds does not magically upconvert them to gold nuggets.

What's going to be found out is exactly what's been being leaked all over at this point - some Xbox multiplats that are really pushing the systems are going to have to sacrifice resolution until MS gets it's tool set together and developers get to understand the XboxOne system better.

And again, just because you collect a large number of turds does not magically upconvert them to gold nuggets.

Yes I have. The Ryse TV spot though is laughable at best. It is 95% live action with 5% Cutscene. Don't get me wrong, Ryse looks like a pretty game, and NBA looks good too, but that is the fresh and new. I am talking about the potential future with what appears to be less than stellar hardware. Will you still feel the same way after 5 iterations of NBA ?
Did we feel that way after five iterations of the current? That's the way it's always been. Games get tired.

Who said it was 720p? Not 1080p != 720p automatically. Anyways, The Order 1886 is 1920x800. Thus is shattered the illusion that Sony dictates all games be 1080p.

Clearly, they're just spreading FUD to hide the fact that they're having to use software downscaling to try to pretend to reach sub1080p native frames.

It is a preference many will share, but far from the overall point and bigger issue. Gone are the days where bleeding edge tech graces our consoles. Now we will be fed out of date, off the shelf parts, which will not meet expectations many will have come to have. All we can do is pray they go back to short life cycles, or suffer another gen like this one. A gen that quickly falls off and becomes stagnant.

Maybe so, but we're still talking about launch games here. There were even more on the internet that thought the launch titles on the original 360 didn't look any different than original Xbox games whatsoever at the time. Regardless of resolution, I think the vast majority of "next-gen" games are quite easily noticeably nicer looking than 360/PS3. Seems like both systems have still been working out hardware issues even in the last month, so it probably shouldn't be too surprising that some devs had to make compromises to hit the launch date.

By the way, I'm not saying launch titles should all get a free ride, I'm just saying that it's par for the course to have some weak performing games early on. Even then, there's a lot more improvements going on under the hood than just easy to quote frame rate and resolution numbers, which is why I can't help but feel many are making this into a straw-man argument. You have guys with considerably better gaming PC's than the majority of gamers, who've played on both consoles, releasing videos like this, but then you have people on the net who've played on neither acting as if the systems are complete garbage because every game isn't 1080p/60fps. There's a bit too large of a difference in opinion there.

That cutscene part is ingame if we are to believe Crytek and Phil Spencer. So if it actually looks like that when we control the character, seriously...how can we not be impressed? If i imagine a RPG like a new Fallout or Elder Scrolls to look like that, i can only say...bring it on!!!! These are great times for gamers with very promising games coming up, both old and new IPs.

Standard on consoles, No. Hell, even 720P could have been considered not standard given how many games were sub 720P.

@VaLLiancE: Are those Resolutions confirmed ? No where have I seen official statement on BF4 running at either res in final build. I know the early versions on PS4 were running nearing 900P, but that was then.
Other than the COD PS4 nope lol but what to do facts have to do with anything when it fits the kind of narrative they want? Apparently rumour is now taking the place of fact until facts are given

Anyway to get a good, unbiased summary of what is going on with regards to resolution on multiplatform games so far?

Preferably somewhat confirmed stuff.

Like a list of what each game resolution will be on each platform.

There isn't a place, your best bet is to wait until reviews/comparisons.

I was someone who thought 1080 needed to be the standard of this next-gen. After reading a lot of posts back at Teamxbox I became OK that that's not really attainable for at least a very long while. The thread I made a week ago asking about the minimum I would need to surpass the graphics on consoles but with a PC came out to a minimum of $250-$500 more than the consoles. So, how do we expect 1080 to be the standard for these consoles, I don't think either console will have 1080 as a true standard, when PC components would cost me $250-$500 more to do that?

Code to the metal, potential, cell, cloud, balance, GPGPU, low latency.

I don't see a shorter life cycle than the typical 6 years. I see these easily being the 7-8 years the current gen has been.
I fear you will be proven right. Which will not be a good thing.

I totally agree....Launch games all look a decent upgrade above what current gen is offering. Even the lesser ones such as COD still look noticeably better. This was not something I questioned. Plus, some are offering stuff beyond just visual. Forza has the A.I stuff. BF has the player numbers...etc
Some games look great too. Ryse I think looks fantastic and Infamous ( close enough to launch) also. Forza looks great too, but still disappoints hugely in what it does not offer for yet another iteration.

Well Opinions often are vastly different and wide in intent, but as somebody who has played all consoles ( except wii u) and PC. I can honestly say I have had as much fun, if not more so on the lesser hardware, and I hope this continues on next gen.

Ingame doesn;t mean much in this day and age. Just another Buzzword thrown about to confuse the masses.

From what I have seen of actual gamplay the stuff in the TV spot looks like cutscene footage to me, and enhanced over the actual gameplay visuals. How ever, Ryse still stands a pretty game. Perhaps the best looking Launch title for either consoles.

A new Fallout would be 5 times the size of Ryse which is far more linear in scope than you general RPG will be. Just saying.

I get that , but let's take Witcher 3 and Dragon Age 3 for example, both look absolutely great. I am very very ok with those kind of visuals in a RPG.

If it doesall turn out to be terrible..there's always PC and the upcoming Steam Machine.

Steam machine.... :laugh::laugh:

If the claimed PS4/Xbox one footage really was from those then yeah, but I have doubts on that.

I highly doubt it's gonna turn out terrible, the new boxes are better machines than current gen. By the vids we have of BF4 on XB1 (who know what build they are even) they look awesome, and have better features than current gen versions. Plus it can only get better from here, these are launch games people are bitching about...

True. And a lot of the games aren't just launch titles but cross-gen games.

Problem with that is the fact that typically console makers lost money on every unit sold and now Microsoft doesn't want to play that game anymore. Sony is still losing 60$ a console, imagine if they came out at 500$ price point. The ps4 would be a complete monster in specs. Microsoft is making money on each console sold and selling the console for 100$ more than the competition with weaker specs. It just doesn't feel right, at least not to me. If Microsoft repeated what they did with the 360 then most games being 1080p would be more than a dream.

The 360 was actually a beast in specs at the time it came out. There is no way to spin the fact that Kinect ruined xb1 specs. Just close your eyes and imagine what xb1 graphics would be like if they followed the same formula as the 360.

No one would be saying anything.

I just don't understand how 720p is okay when a lot of games were doing that last gen. It doesn't even matter what pc's can do for whatever price. 720p was doable on 360 which is an 8 year old machine. Common sense should dictate with a new generation and new hardware 8 years later we should see an improvement.

And LOL @ my being thread banned from the xbox one thread. f***ing hilarious. I've been pro xb1 since the reveal and as soon as some disappointing news comes out and I show an ounce of negativity toward xb1 I get banned for "trolling" what a f***ing joke. On TXB people called me a xb1 fanboy and now i'm banned for "trolling" xb1 thread because I'm not happy with 720p. Clowns are hilarious

lol it actually really pissed me off. I've been a part of this community for over 10 years, and I've always been pro xbox. Not only have I not owned a sony system since ps2 but I've never intentionally trolled anyone. Yet I get banned because 2 people decide to argue with me because i'm not happy with 720p on a 500$ machine that I've already fully paid for. >.>

Add to the fact that I never even said anything that was wrong. Pffft WTB TXB

As a general rule, if NeoGAF/Reddit have “sources” on console news, just ignore it. Most of the time, it’s inaccurate or made up.

I know it’s interesting to see if a console is f***ed up. Sony and Microsoft have hundreds of millions of $ into making them work. It’s a fact that console launches are rushed. So hearing how software is buggy this late is perfectly normal.

This sensationalism is because many people haven’t done a launch before and no launch has had as much hyper-connectivity. People just want credit for being in the know. In the long run, almost all these stories are trivial. Relax.

720 on the 360 isn't the same as 720 on the X1.

If there's actual evidence from ppl who are making public statements with vague or suggestive language, then by all means start speculating. 99% of the anti-X1 narrative since May has been spread very deliberately by the same cabal of highly one-sided GAF users who are feeding their 'insider info' to others on GAF, including 'journalists'. It's an echo chamber erected by ppl with atrocious track records lately.

Recall Thuway's GPU downclock bulls***, lies about games not being shown on real hardware, the falsified 6GB RAM for PS4 games crap, and his assertions that almost every X1 game is 720p or 900p without backing it up. CBOAT's plethora of pre-E3 #truthfacts bulls*** that he made up out of thin air (free PSN, yield probs for X1, various games never being announced, MS paying devs to show games only on X1, DRM getting "worse", no self-publishing, indies only get 3GB of RAM to work with). Famousmortimer's claims about Tomb Raider, Halo 2013, League of Legends, Hawken and now claims he didn't even believe (CoD @ 720p) being passed off as confirmed when he was the sole source!

All of this FUD is engineered as such. It's stuff that usually can't be falsified until yrs down the line and in the mean time these idiots are heralded as GAF's prophets of wisdom and truth for making s*** up and telling GAF what it wants to hear.

There are hardly any true 1080p games on current gen, despite most of us have 1080p tvs. But nobody seemed to care or pressure devs for higher res. Instead, people cared more for texture quality or frames per second. I can't remember any post or thread begging devs to go 1080p on current gen.

Probably because we are talking about 8 year old systems. Should 1080p be the standard for new systems releasing in 2013? Yes.

Some multiplatform games will look better on PS4, others will look better on Xbox One. Think about the differences between current multiplatform games. Do the differences in some games sway consumers enough to one console or the other? No they don't.

Graphics aren't everything. Ecosystem > graphics.

Most consumers will look at both consoles and be impressed by the visuals. It will boil down to the ecosystem both consoles offer, for the pricepoint.

I believe about half of those things..got links to prove they are fud?

Now all of a sudden graphics don't matter. I guess that's why Wii U doing so well with it's awesome hardware specs. I guess that's why all of you great guys own Wii's and enjoy them everyday. I guess that's why we are all here waiting on new hardware for a new generation with improved graphics.

I love how you try to act like 1080p s*** graphics is what people are talking about. Obviously I'm referring to 1080p high quality graphics. Something that takes some nice specs to accomplish. Something that Wii U obviously doesn't have.

Keep pretending to be the fool though. We all know we want 1080p games with the graphics turned down to low and medium.
