Not surprised. Sony said they want to go all in for next gen. PS5 features and PS5 games. Their PS4 support is next to done. Alienating 100+ million PS4 owners with no more exclusives or features.

It’s been a while… but State of Play returns this Thursday with a focus on third-party-published games coming to PS4 and PS VR. We’ll have a few PS5 game updates on third-party and indie titles you last saw in June’s PS5 showcase.

The episode is weighing in at 40+ minutes(!). We’ve got a great lineup in store featuring plenty of new gameplay footage and other game updates. Can’t wait to hear what you think!

And just to be super clear — there will be no PlayStation Studios updates in Thursday’s episode. There won’t be any updates around hardware, business, preorders, or dates either. On Thursday, our focus is squarely on showcasing some cool upcoming games coming to the broader PlayStation ecosystem. Should be fun!

The new State of Play episode airs Thursday, August 6 at 1:00pm Pacific Time / 4:00pm Eastern Time / 9:00pm BST, and you can watch it live on Twitch and YouTube.

Based on what was said, the DualShock 4 has absolutely no feedback in certain instances that the DualSense allows during gameplay. There are also no adaptive triggers neither. Everything else is also still a mystery about the controller including the create button, which is likely to gi beyond thw share button. I'm just not sure where the DualShock 4 will be of any benefit to the next experience more than it would be a hindrance. If the changes were minor, i could understand.

My Astro C40 is better made than the PS offerings I would like to use it.

Sounds like a normal Sony showing to me. Unlike their competition, they've never only shown off their newest piece of harware; they've always covered PlayStation as a whole. And since the PS4 is still booming, they've got no reason to abandon it. Unfortunately, not everyone can faithfully say that they have that luxury to rely in, so the focus is push, push, push and don't look back. But make no mistake, it was that fan base that originally got you where you are.

Built wise, maybe. But it doesn’t support the same tech inside the body of the controller for the games that'll use it, and I'm sure that is where the problem falls. It's easier to support these things if the upgrades are minor, but when you have major features replace them, it is almost like using a PC that is 15 or 20 years old. The tech becomes too dated after awhile to keep up. In the case of rumble........well, it's about that dated, not including everything else.

that tech is old though

At the moment, we have no compatibility statements to make regarding the PS5, but we are continuing to look into this for both the C40 TR Controller and the audio products such as our MixAmp Pro TR.

I would be wary of reading any website that claims the DualShock 4 Controller will be compatible. From reading that site myself, it only declares the DualShock 5 will be compatible with the PS4 and not anything regarding the PS5. Also, Sony would probably never use the terms DS4 or DS5, unlike PS4 and PS5 as they have "DualShock" marked and prefer to use those instead.

Until Sony speaks for themselves, take everything with a pinch of salt.

Keep an eye on our website and social media channels, we'll have more to share soon once we have official statements.

track pad tech is even older

Trackpads are also still on current PCs and other mobile devices because it is very useful compared to using static buttons or D-pad/analog stick for certain situations. So it's basically a controller in its own way, i guess.
