Here's what I'm taking away from the poll:
  • About half of us own only one console, and chances are 80% it's an Xbox.
  • This is an Xbox-dominant site, but over half the members responding to the poll own a PS4.
  • No one owns only a Wii U; the Wii U seems to be serving only as a secondary console for this crowd.
  • About half of us own more than one console.
  • When choosing a second console, 80% of people choose X1 or PS4.
  • When choosing a second console, 20% of people choose Wii U. Even as a supplementary choice, Wii U is running a distant third among this group.
I guess none of that is surprising, but it's nice to put some numbers to it.

Which is sad because the Wii U is the best second system to own. Complements PS4/X1 much better than X1/PS4.

I thought so too, initially, but when it came to actually choosing a second console, the X1 seemed like an easy choice to me. It has more exclusive content that interests me than the Wii U does. Also, the Xbox seems like a familiar old friend (who spent some time recently in a psychiatric hospital but is now fine), whereas the Wii U seems like a stranger.

I guess it's also hard to ignore all the constant back and forth between X1 and PS4 on the forums and the media, so that when it comes to picking a second console, picking another one of the "big two" seems natural. Wii U is sort of on the sidelines, not really a part of the debate most of the time (I'm thinking of that gif of the Wii U in the rain, looking in the window).

On the upside, though, the Wii U does seem to be a very popular choice as a third console. Among people who own all three consoles, 100% of them own a Wii U.

Just an X1 for me. I don't consider myself a fanboy as much as I just don't have time/money for a 2nd console.

was at GS today and almost sprung for the PS4. If the wife hadn't been with me probably would have got it.

Swear the last thing I need is more hardware.

I have a xb1 and PS4, did have a Wii U but sold it. Seriously considering selling PS4 too has I haven't touched it in ages.

I know the PS4 has more powerful hardware but I just like the xbox ecosystem better - has the right balance of games and entertainment.

X1, but been playing more on the PC.

All 3, of course I've been playing the Wii U the most lately since they have been releasing the best games.

as of today (added a second PS4):

2x PS4
2x Xbox One
1x Wii U.

I hardly game and if I do it's Fifa on the PS4 but I am double dipping and getting it for the Xbox One also as soon as my Titan One arrives. I have both the Xbox One and PS4 in the games room, I use the second Xbox One exclusively for Plex in the main room and I have a second PS4 in the bedroom.

Not necessarily:

Xbox One on launch - Birthday present from the wife.
PS4 on launch - $400? (Whatever the retail cost was from Gamestop)

Wii U - Christmas present for my son $250.

Second Xbox One - Christmas present from the wife - $300. (We bought a 70 inch UHD 4K TV so wanted to use a second Xbox One as a media hub, plex ext)

Second PS4 - Free. My uncle who's 50 does very well professionally so likes to spend without care, he bought the PS4 the same day as me on launch and then gave it to his neighbour to borrow two days later. He got the console back a month ago and it's been sitting near the front door since. I went round yesterday said to my aunt I am taking this to my house, he won't realize she said 'do it' it's wasted here. So I did just that.

He's in to biking at the moment and spends his money on Cannandale bikes. He really won't realize and even if he does he won't care. He gave me a brand new Mac last year as a moving in gift because it took 'too much space in his garage'.

So all in I've spent $650 on consoles. It's nothing in grand scheme of things.

I thought for sure i voted but i guess not. I'll try again. I own all three. Xbox One, PS4 and Wii U.

LOL at the results. This is quite the union.

I thought Son of TXB would be a better name, but no one listened to me. Anyway, with that kind of heritage, what do you expect? The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Still, over half the people have a PS4. That counts for something. They may not like it much, but they have it.

I'm personally glad for the PS4 stalwarts we have here, even if some of them get a little carried away sometimes. It definitely provides a more balanced forum than we would have otherwise. I hope they stick around.

What were you expecting? Just as many people to be PS4 only owners as X1 only owners? We came from an Xbox site, lol. If you want a PS site stick to Gaf or even better, hit up PSU. You can barely mention Xbox there without getting an awkward response.

They've got an Xbox forum with 21,000 threads and half a million posts. Granted, the PS side of the forum is about 7 times larger, but it is a forum specifically dedicated to the PS. Why anyone would go there to post about Xbox is beyond me.

Some people enjoy a single community and would love to engage in mature conversations about gaming in general, not just a specific console. I do most of my PS discussions here, and the rest is split up at gaf and the official PS forums.

They have hitlers running PSU.

I have no idea. I'm just pointing out that Hitler is letting the Jews post 21,000 threads about being Jewish.

If people want a single community that has balanced conversations about all gaming platforms, they are being dumb to pick an official forum dedicated to one particular console.

I only post here. I read at GAF, because I find that their taste in games is broader than the taste here, and they have discussions about games that don't get much traction here. They also have a lot of news there. I don't bother with posting, though. I'd feel like I was wasting my time.

Only own an X1. Will be getting a WiiU before the year is up I'd imagine.

Anyone else find it interesting that still a few more people own both X1 and PS4 here (if you add in the Wii U people too). Don't let anyone tell you that you don't take gaming seriously.

We've got 78 votes now, so here are the updated stats:

Half of the group (49%) owns only one console. The majority of those (76%) are X1-only owners.

  • 37% of the total group are X1-only owners.
  • 12% of the total group are PS4-only owners.
  • No one here is a Wii U-only owner.

About a third of the group (29%) owns two consoles. In that group, most (74%) chose the other side of the "big two" to complement their X1 or PS4.

About a fifth of the group (18%) own all three consoles.

A small percentage (4%) don't own any current-gen consoles.

And of those who responded:
  • 82% own an X1
  • 51% own a PS4
  • 26% own a Wii U

Still have yet to get a next gen system. Since I have not had the time to play as much as I like and still have games I play on 360, I do not mind waiting to pick one up. Plus there will be more games when I do decide to go next-gen.
